Inspired by the purse designer thread...how much will you pay for a purse?

Both my daughter and I are handbag snobs and we are both rather proud of it too....My daughter only wanted a LV Speedy for Christmas, so she is getting it, she will LOVE it, I am sure.:) It will be her third LV. I have three myself and my favorite is the LV wallet I bought about 10 years ago. Having a Louis is great but IMO pulling out that Louis wallet is even better.

I also have a Burberry, several Coach, an older Gucci and one beautiful Fendi! My daughter tends to favor Coach and Juicy Couture. Personally I don't care for Juicy but its not marketed for me anyways, is it now?

I know a lot of people buy knock off's but I am against them as they are a known source of funding for terrorists, as is much of the underground counterfeit products, including DVD, etc. Here is a link to one story about it.

The most I've ever spent on a purse was around $60. I don't keep one purse for long so spending a lot on them would be a waste IMO. My current purse I use for most everything was 14.99 at Target. I have a small black evening purse I use when I go "out" that was 12.99 at Fashion Bug and a small backpack type purse I use for work that was 15.00 at Burlington. If you got a lot to spend on a purse...more power to ya! I spend a lot on my photography stuff and scrapbooking supplies :) We all have things we spend more on and things we save on

Another bag addict. I tend to buy the better bags when I travel. In London and in Harrods I purchased my Burberry and it was $850. When I was in Paris of course I got a beautiful LV that is only sold in Paris, so thankfully I have seen no knockoffs of it here. That was $950. In Italy I purchased a fantastic blue Prada and that was $1050. Again another style only made in Italy, so I have never seen a knockoff of it here. Here in the states I have bought a small Prada, a small LV and then go with Coach bags. My dream bag is either a carmel colored Hermes Kelly or Brikin. Not sure if I will ever get that, but a girl can dream!!!

Not more than $20, it is rare that I would even spend that much on one.
I get most of mine at yard sales, some still have tags on them for $1 or $2. I have a purse for every event, some nice names too!
Now shoes, that's another thing!

The most I ever spent was $40. I like the Coach bags (Santa?) but I can't see the point of spending that much on something that carries around my empty wallet and chapstick. I have many other important expenses at the moment. Maybe if I ever got a raise I'd think about spending in the $100-$200 range. I could never bring myself to spend more than that. I actually just laid to rest a purse that I bought for $25 that went everywhere with me for 7 years. It received a daily beating and never lost a stitch or even a ripped liner. At least I'm not like my mom who buys a purse then two weeks later decides she doesn't like it anymore and buys another. The woman has a closet full of purses.

Another handbag snob here!

DH and I both got early Christmas gifts this year! Monday I treated myself to a Louis Vuitton Drouot. After VA sales tax it came to $787.50, the most I've ever spent on a purse. Here's how the sales associate wrapped it before we took it home!

And since I couldn't wait, I just took these photos today after I unwrapped it (in front of DH's early gift; a 56" High Definition TV):

Life is very good at the moment!

Adopt me...please.

I mean, I'll spend $300 on a bag. But a speedy is more then 2 months worth of car payments for me...and I would love a Speedy.

Oooh, I have this debate with one of my friends all the time. I love handbags and have a ton of them but I like to switch them constantly, I get bored with one very easily. I love Burlington Coat factory because they have a great selection for under $30. I like nine west bags becasue they always come with extras.

To me, if I spend $100 plus on a bag, it needs to come with some money in it!!! Also, I am not big on paying to advertise for someone else so I wouldn't carry the bags that are "signatures" with the exception of a LV my grandmother gave me. It is very classy looking, roomy for all my stuff and I didn't buy it!!!

OK...I am a reformed Designer Handbag addict! How did I reform you ask? It was easy! I HAD HAD HAD to have a Louis Vuitton Murakami hand bag two spring seasons ago. The was no other purse for me. $2,500 later, that purse is up in my closet, in its authentic Louis Vuitton dust bag, doing just that, bagging dust! Don't get me wrong, I absolutely loved this bag and still do. But when I can go to a mall in any town in America and see a 13 yo girl carrying a knock off of my bag, it tend to take the wind out of my sails. By the way, my bag of choice these days is $35 no name diaper bag!

Bellacam, one of the main reasons I chose the Drouot over any other LV style is due to the large amount of knock-offs I'm seeing around here. Everyone has either the Murakami in white, the Speedy, the Papillion or the Cabas Piano. I've not seen the Druout yet, and I'm hoping I don't!

I too adore handbags.

I have a few Isabella Fiore bags and wrist purses. One was reduced to $90 from $425 in Saks a few christmas back.

I love LV and have the core favourites, my speedy if my very favourite. I too have the purse too, I especially like the cerises purse. I love Burberry, Marc Jacobs and recently got a black Chloe Paddington.

However I totally love Kipling and have as many cheapies $50 and under I love too.

I always use my bags, I cannot justify spending it if it sits up in my closet.

I am just discovering Dooney bags too!

I was told the Cerise has been discontinued! I love that one too!

Don't you worry, my new bag will get years of use, even if I'm sick of carrying it around! Good thing about LV's is I can ebay it and get a good portion of my money back if need be.

I love love love my purple Dooney it bag. I had a light blue medium Dooney tassel tote which I really liked, but when they came out with the purple it bag, I had to have it. I used an entire summer's worth of overtime to save for it, and I have carried it for over a year. Right now, I am using a cheap $25 bag I got at TJ Maxx, but I will be switching back to the Dooney before long.
I desperately want a Burberry Nova Check bag, but as of right now cannot afford it. If I get a promotion at work, that will be my first big paycheck purchase. I think if I get the Burberry, I probably will not buy another designer bag- I have been wanting a Burberry for 2-3 years, so if I got it, it would probably be the only purse I would ever carry again.
I know a girl at work who has at least 10 coach bags (most are real, although a couple are fake). She also has several Louis Vuittons, although I think most of those are fakes. I don't see spending the $ on a fake, when you can save a bit more and get the real one. Especially since most knockoffs are $60-75 here in Indy. Why not wait and get the real one?

It IS discontinued. It was a limited edition, no longer made or sold....except on Ebay, of course!

Cerise is discontinued...although some stores still have some pieces left.
I have the Cerise bucket bag...love love it.

Blondie...Your Drouot is very cute !!! I recently bought the Batignolles bag. Its a new style and is pretty original so far. No fakes yet. ;)
I was going to buy a denim LV but I see those just being too trendy. I prefer more classic.

I LOVE purses too! I used to work in the purse department long ago at JC Penney (OK...don't laugh...I know it's not the place for purse snobs) but that's when I really started to notice people's purses and how important they are to your appearance. A ratty purse held together with make shift repairs, tape, safety pins, duct tape..you get the idea, it does really reflect on the person carrying it. Either wash it or toss it. And go get another one!

Cheap bags are good when you don't carry them every day. I have a teal/turquoise one that I got at Wal-mart for ten bucks that I love but I don't want to carry a turquoise bag everywhere so it's looks good. But to see some dirty,

I mostly buy Liz Claiborne purses for around for 30 to 70 dollars. You have to make sure that you get cloth lining and that the straps are attached with "rings" they seem to last longer. I've never had a problem with LC. They usually last a couple years and still look nice.

My sister in law bought me a coach (anyone that is a regular to purse threads should know...I bring it up every time :rolleyes1 ) and the difference in quality is astounding. I got a very classic design that should last me for years. I change purses when I need one to match my outfit but everything goes right back into the coach when I get back home. It hangs on my shoulder like it was custom made for me.

And as for fakes. It just MY OPINION but I say "All or nothing" I don't consider myself a "snob" but I would either get the real thing or get a well made non designer purse.

I had a friend who wanted to get me a $60 purse for my birhtday once. I told them that I wouldn 't carry it. they were shocked. They were like, "well why not!?" I said, "Id be too scared to mess it up!". If a bag is more than 25 dollars. its not worth carrying, let alone paying for.

Blondie, your bag is Fab U Lous!!!! I swear, just seeing the shopping bag makes me happy...

I wonder how many of us bag addicts are also addicted to expensive scarves??

I just bought my 4th Burberry cashmere scarf....Those to me are far more of a luxury than my bags but its probably because I can't wear cashmere year round...:)

Thanks! I was admiring a denim LV in the store. Maybe next time. LV's are like potato chips, you can't have just one!

I've seen the shopping bags on e-bay! I'm keeping mine though!

There are some beautiful bags out there in the $300 price range, but I refuse to pay the price for them. I think the most I would be willing to spend is about $75.
