inspired by the prom dress thread

So prom dresses are going in disguise as bridesmaid dresses? Or is it the other way around? :rotfl2:

Ok. I seriously need to walk away from this thread. I wore this exact dress to a Homecoming Dance except that it was all one color. Ivory. That would have been circa 1979??

OK, I actually still have two of the prom dresses I wore. Here's the one that screams "true 80's" style...

Yes, that's a purple dress with white lace, and yes I wore a crinoline under that big poufy skirt. :scared:

OMG, mine was VERY similar to this one (1986)-- but it was all white (don't ask -my older sister had an all white prom gown too).... Gunne Sax. I don't have mine anymore though -- my mom got rid of all of our dresses when she moved 12 years ago. :sad1:

Both of mine had the butt bow --

I hated the butt bow.

I graduated in 1990. All my HS dresses had a butt bow. I was very thin in HS (size 0 - no hips, etc.) so I always had to have the butt bow taken in. Otherwise, from the front it looked like my butt had wings.

well I figure the butt bow was a given. I was married in 94 so this style lasted for awhile.

'94 bride here also. My dress had a butt bow (which had to be taken in), but my bridesmaids managed to escape it.

I had the classic 80's prom dress. It was lavender, off the shoulder, big southern belle style dress. My date had the white tails with the cumber bun and tie to match my dress. Wowzy! :lmao:

'86 it was! And the next year mine was all white, but I added a red sash to keep it from looking to wedding-gownish.

My boyfriend wore a royal blue (like dis blue but more electric -)-tux w/ white pants -- I thought we were so cool.

unfortunately I did not escape the butt bow on my wedding dress. OR the Poufy sleeves or the head piece pouf. Why didnt someone tell me???

To be honest...I actually prefer the older wedding dresses to the newer ones. Todays dresses are MUCH too plain and the head pieces are BORING.

I am laughing at this thread because I had to FIND a 1980's prom dress for DD who was in a play last weekend. They changed the ending 2 weeks before the play :scared1: opened. Do you have any idea how hard it was to find a 1980's prom dress in a size other than 0-12??? I needed a larger size, finally found it but it was close.:rotfl: She was the only cast member to have original MOM jeans, said while I pat myself on the shoulder lol! I told DH saving some of this stuff would come in handy one day.;) :lmao:

Very much like the dress my bridesmaids wore too, except it was teal, had a lace bodice and a butt bow.

Same neckline, same sleeves, same dropped-V waist (which, BTW, looked great on every one of my bridesmaids even though I had all different shapes, & colors), same poufy skirt.

My proms were in 1978 & 1979 when "Qiana" (think shiny polyester...oh so fabulous!!) was in vogue.

Boy, that was the dress that wouldn't die. :rotfl2:

It's a lot like my bridesmaid dresses, except mine had long sleeves that weren't so poofy and it was floor length. It was a sort of tea rose color.

In my defense, I was very limited in what I could choose. Two of my bridesmaids were quite plus size and back then, you could hardly find anything bigger than a 14 or 16. And those were really more like a 12 or 14. So we had very little to choose from. I wasn't going to pick girls to fit in pretty dresses, I was going to find dresses to fit the girls who mattered most to me. And that style was pretty simple, did flatter with the V waist, and didn't make the busty girls look like they'd had massive implants. :rotfl:

I didn't kid myself that they'd every wear them again, so I got fairly inexpensive ones. I had no idea they were still wearing that style well into the 90s. :confused3
