We are in the no vacation this year thread due to vacation schedules so we are taking weekend trips. We live about 45 mins north of Indy and went to downtown Indy last weekend. Had a great time!! We got a great deal on a Priceline room for 2 nights. Did Beef and Boards one night, The Melting Pot the next night did Circle Center in the Afternoon and only ate at places we had never been. It wasn't the same as Disney, but it was still a great time and much cheaper so we will be doing this a lot this year!!

I'm glad you had fun here in Indy. A couple of those places I haven't made it to yet. :teeth:

I keep pricing things to do for my family of 6 and everything is about the same as it would cost me for Disney....

For a few days of the spring break we are currently in ....I thought New York over night...(yeah right) even staying across the river in NJ it was a fortune.....Then I thought Williamsburg...ok the room was cheaper...but the ride for a few days...Yuck

We decided not to go anywhere....saving for Dec...

Try the Best Western In Fort Lee NJ-- I found they have really good rates. Are clean and modern. Free breakfast I think-- and only a mile from the GW bridge. The rates were under $100 a night-- not bad for NYC.

We too like to do a lot of weekend get-away's. Here's some that we found to be great for a 2-3 day cheaper trip (meaning I did it for under a 1000.00 for my family of 3-- most could even be done for under $700.00)

Hocking Hills Ohio (this is pretty centrally located for a lot of people). Very pretty outdoorsy area, and craft shops. We rented a deluxe cabin w/ hottub. Only about $100.00 a night.

Lake Plaicd NY-- camping in a KOA cabin. Lots of outlets, unique shops, hikinh, and fishing. As well as Olympic sites.

NYC-- We can drive, stay in NJ, and do the free things in NYC to do. We cut a break here too because Jetblue has one way tickets for $30 something all the time from our area.

DC-Love this city since most of the attractions are free!! Last trip I only spent $495.00- this included 2 nights lodging at a Quality Inn (W/ indoor pool), food, gas, and some trinkets. Also, paid for parking and those tickets to get on and off the tourist tram for 2 days.

Cook's Forest (PA)-- Cute area- very touristy not worth more than a 3+ hr drive though.

So many more, in 2002 we took 4 weekend trips in a 2 month time span. All 4 trips still cost me less than 1 offsite Disney trip. So it was a great way to get the travel bug out of me for awhile.

We're taking 3 long wknd trips this summer
1 to White Mtns to NH for 4nights
1 to the Hampton area NH for 6nights
and 1 camping in ME (cabin w/fridge & bathroom) for 4nights
each trip is costing me aprx $425 for lodging

Then Im saving for our VWL Oct vaca

We love to go on short, weekend trips. It's so much easier with DH's work schedule. Especially since he usually uses his vacation days staying home with me after I have a baby.

Around here, we like to go to Charleston, Hilton Head, and Asheville, NC. Sometimes we go to Atlanta if there's something going on there that we want to attend.

I have an AmEx Hilton Honors card that gives great rewards. We get our room free on a lot of trips, and we don't even have to stay at the cheaper places, like Hampton Inn, most of the time. We've stayed at Embassy Suites, Doubletrees, and Homewood Suites. We don't have enough points to go anywhere good right now, but I'm going to put my hospital charges on that card when I have the baby. That ought to do it.
