There are a ton of MOMS groups available for parents of the preschool set, and well needed and deserved IMHO, but shouldnt there be a group for moms (and dads) of older kids too?

I mean just because we arent "new" to the whole parenting thing doesnt mean we dont have specific needs and the desire to get together. I know I would love to meet more moms of teenagers or of pre teens, especially just moving into a new area.

So I wonder why no one has started this? What do you think? Would this fly?

I don't know about all MOPS groups but the mops groups I have been in, When the kids hit the age limits. Those mom become "mentor moms". I can't image telling anyone they couldn't belong.

No thats true, I could become a mentor and have thought about it for our teens MOPS group at church. I just mean a group specifically *for* parents of older kids. Same idea as MOPS but for those of us who would like to get together with moms (and dads) of our older kids. Have close to the same format but that would address the concerns we have as older parents like our kids dating, bullying, driving....:scared1:
trust me we ALL need support for that last one! :rotfl2:

With MOPS, you graduate out when your child is no longer a preschooler. I've been in MOPS for about 16 years as a parent and as a child care provider. I love MOPS and totally support their ministry, but it's so sad seeing these moms graduate out and in tears after their last meeting.

I'm guessing it's because a lot of moms of teens have established friendships. All of my friends are moms I met through my children, so I have friends with people who have kids the same ages as my kids. The town does host parenting talks and seminars every now and then. I really don't know any of the parents of the middle school kids, with the exception of those who went to elementary with dd13, even her new friends' parents.

I see how this would stink in your case. Volunteer at the school and in town, join clubs, take some fitness classes (women tend to bond when they're in pain ;)). Everyone needs support.
