We have the Carpenters Christmas CD, which is probably my favorite, but I am always saddened when I hear Karen carpenter sing.

Such a tragic waste of such talent. :sad2:

Yes liked her music too and another one who died to young.

The Carpenter's Christmas Portrait is one of my favorite Christmas CDs. She was another very talented person who left this earth way to early.

I feel the same way - I love the Carpenters music, and their Christmas cd is my favorite... but, my musically challenged children (;)) gag whenever I put it on.

My favorite Christmas song is "Merry Christmas, Darling" sung by Karen. She was such a huge talent. Very much missed.

She had an incredible voice. My first album was the Carpenters Close to You album.

Love her voice, but I can only stomach 3 or 4 songs of the Christmas album before I get a sugar headache!

DH loves that CD, so he tends to play it when I'm not around or I'm out of the room!

OTOH, I can listen to the John Denver CD over and over.

Been listening to all Karen's Christmas songs the past 2 months! Can't get enough of her. Especially love "Christmas Waltz". :goodvibes

Karen Carpenter had the most amazing voice. Everytime I hear her sing, it brings a tear to my eye. I was living in SoCal when she died and was working just down the street from where her memorial service was held. My wish is that I could have somehow met her and helped her live. I suppose that is a silly thought, but I think it occasionally nonetheless.

The song "Rock and Roll Heaven" really sums it up for me. You know that John and Karen must be singing in that heavenly choir.

I really hate her voice (she and Ann Murray sound like cows to me), but she's a great object lesson on the dangers of eating disorders.

She is one of my favorites and her version of I'll be home for Christmas is lovely.

Yikes!!! :earseek:

I suppose that to each her/his own. My wife thinks that all of the contemporary female pop singers sound like they are whining and not singing. I guess that's why there are so many varieties and choices. And that we can agree to disagree on this matter. :)

I think she has one of the greatest voices ever--so pure and...well, it just sounds effortless when she sings. And as someone who has battled the eating disorder monster, I feel a special connection to her.

I absolutely adore Karen Carpenter and feel the same way when I hear her sing. I can still sing every word of almost every song.

Have you heard her sing Ava Maria? It's the prettiest version of this song that I've ever heard. It's always the first song I play off of their Christmas CD.

Ouch! I can't say I'm an Anne Muray fan, but I wouldn't liken either one of them to cows. They can both do something that I wouldn't dream possible.

I think being able to sing is a talent you're born with.

Well, let me tell you, I'd love to be able to open my mouth and have that voice come out. Much better than the shrieking, whining and swearing that is prevalent in so much of the music today!!!!

I have heard her Ave Maria....just gorgeous!!!!!

I thought Karen Carpenter had a beautiful voice. My favorite song used to be "For All We Know"...until I sang it in a 9th grade talent show at school and really butchered it!

My parents and I saw The Carpenters in concert in Las Vegas in 1971...and the opening act was...Don Adams!

She had a beautiful voice and was one of my favorite artists, along with Linda Ronstadt, in the 70's. People began talking about eating disorders and their dangers after her death.

The other day at my store, and almost cried! :guilty: I thought her voice was great! :goodvibes NO-one has been able to match her since than.
