Do you actually have to buy your own stuff;; clothes, car, food, etc? Or do your parents normally take care of that for you?

I'm honestly shocked at the fact that so many of my friends get anything they want with their parents paying, and they don't have to work or spend THEIR money. I'm one of the very few of my friends who has a job and I have to pay for my own stuff. I'm almost 17 and I've had my license about 10 months and I still don't have a car. One of my friends got a car before she even turned 16..not saying I'm jealous...:rolleyes1 But after a while it gets old listening to them say their parents pay for EVERYTHING. I mean, mine will pay for the necessitates but anything else I want, I have to pay for. Some friends think I'm crazy for having a job but I guess in the future I'll be one step ahead of them and know what to expect when I live on my own, without my parents there to pay for everything?!

Discuss. (:

Oh god no! I buy my own stuff! My dad doesn't know what I like AT ALL, and everything my mom likes I don't.

I get an allowance, $15 every week. One of the conditions of getting allowance was that it had to be with a debit card, so I have my own debit card. Yeah, I spend their money, but I AM looking for a job. Between the "we don't hire under 18" thing and the fact our country is one of the poorest in the state, it's not easy. We live in the middle of nowhere with no public transport which also makes it hard.

But yeah, I have to pay for things I *want*. If I want Chinese one night, I gotta pay. My parents can go pick it up (no delivery, no license).

I buy my own stuff... but the allowance comes from my parents.

If I want something I have to save up for it, and do extra chores/errands to get what I want.

My mom will buy me clothes online because she feels bad she can't leave the house to take me shopping at all. (Which she DEF doesn't have to do <3)

My parents paid for gas, my car is a family car from 11 years ago, and but if I want anything it comes from my savings.

I got cut off from allowance when I turned 16, and got a job shortly after. I buy all of my own stuff with my own money. I bought my own laptop, my own digital camera, I buy my own school books and plane tickets.
Obv. when I'm home I eat food that my parents buy, and sometimes my mom buys socks for me, or stuff like that, but everything else I pay for. The only thing I'm not paying for is school, WHICH IS PRETTY HUGE. I figure that if my parents are spending THAT much money on my education, I can fork up a little for my own clothes and entertainment!

My parents buy me new clothes, food, and books... the only things I really buy are "toys" and accessories. I'm too young for a job though, I normally just save up my babysitting money&allowance.

Most of my friends have to buy everything with their own money.

I want a laptop, but I'll be saving up and paying for that myself.

sometimes my grandma, dad and mom buy stuff for me, if we're out shopping together. and sometimes they'll give me like 50 dollars to help make ends meet. she's very involved with my finances, meaning i tell her mostly how i'm spending and if i can pay all my bills, but mostly everything is paid with my financial aid and matts income. his parents do not help us at all.

Ever since I've had a job I've paid for everything myself, well mostly everything. I pay for gas, food, clothes, concert tickets, whatever I do when I'm out with friends (movies, laser quest, etc), printing fees for photos, any photo equipment. I did get a car for my 16 - it was my dad's old one - and a MacBook Pro for my 18. Some school stuff my parents will pay for, but I'll probably be paying for a good amount of my college education. It's been a good lesson though, trying to save and watch how much I spend. 2009 was not a good year for me spending wise, so I'm totally buckling down this year. :headache:

Ever since I got a job 2 years ago I buy:
-Clothes
-Restaurant Food(including fast food)
-movies/entertainment
-makeup/beauty products
-books for school
-school supplies
-But I would say 90% of my income goes into savings for school
-I also have student loans in my name & scholarships which pay for tuition, room & board and basically all of those fees.

My parents continue to pay for as long as I follow there rules don't become a lazy dead beat brat:
-$200 a month towards groceries/gas
-Car payment(which occassionally I will help them out with if needed)
-Car Insurance
-& if I somehow come up short with money for school they will help me out but it is never more than a few hundred dollars.

I pay for my own food outside the house, clothing, and anything extra. If I want to get toiletries on a day other than the grocery day, I have to pay. I pay to go to the theatre, I pay for my books and I paid for my laptop. I paid for my Europe trip in March.

My parents will only buy food (like fast food or at a restaurant) if it's a special occasion, or we happen to need lunch while we're shopping. They might buy me clothing, but it's rare.
I dunno, I don't usually get money for no reason.

If I'm with my parents, whatever I'm buying goes on the Visa, and I have to pay them back.

I buy most of the little stuff I want. I don't buy a lot of stuff throughout the year though. I usually wait for Christmas and my birthday. I mostly just buy a cd or some other small thing.

I get an allowance every month divided up into secotions-- entertainment (includes eating out), clothing, savings, miscelanious (school stuff). Any of it can be used for huge purchases, but I'm currently saving for my Disney trip. I have chores that include vaccuuming, mopping, laundry, trash, dishes, etc. If I don't d my rs, get money deducted from my allowance. :goodvibes

My mother pays for everything. If I have money (no job/allowance so I just have money from my birthday/Christmas) and want something I'll ask her to buy it then pay her back later. If I don't have money I just have to do a lot of schoolwork (online school) then I don't have to pay her back...I've paid for most of my concert tickets, band shirts, CDs, DVDs and books with my own money...I don't have to pay for clothes (band shirts too now that I wear them...) since my grandfather gives my mother money to buy me clothes...

Oh God, I haven't had an allowance or had my parents pay for things pretty much since I got my first job at 16. I honestly can't remember the last time my mom/dad bought me like clothes or something like that.
I'm really good with saving my money so I actually prefer to buy all my own things and manage myself.

But like, if we all go out for dinner together my parents will pay.
...and they doooo still pay for my phonebill (if it's below $50, which it usually is)
I do get really spoiled on birthdays & christmases though :upsidedow
And my grandparents....weeeeeeell, that's another story :rolleyes1
(my grandfather is pretty well off and likes to slip me a 20 every now & then and hey, i'm not gonna complain!!!)

Ive never had an allowance the only thing close was every report card if me and my brother got a certain amount of A's and B's they would give us 20 to 30 dollars but when i turned 16 and got my moms car passed down to me they told me straight forward that they would not be paying for gas or insurance i would have to get a job in order to pay for my car.
I got my first job when i was 16 at a place similar to chuckie cheese called Itz..i worked their for a few months then got a job at McAlisters deli and have been an employee their for over two years.
Ever since i went out and got a job my parents have told me anything i want to buy for myself or do for fun comes out of my pocket now.
I pay for my cell phone bill, i bought my ipod touch, coach purse, video camera and half of my college books and tuition with my own money.

My family buys everything for me, my mom knows what I like to wear and everything.

i buy myself pretty much everything:
- clothes
- phone credit
- laptop
- shoes
- make up
- shampoo/conditioner
- toothbrush
- going out
etc.

i cant afford my own car so my parents are happy for me to borrow one of theirs when i need to, which is pretty often. i usually have access to 2 cars, 3 if my dad's not at work. but i do have to pay a certain amount for petrol every month or so. also i think my parents are going to pay for my first year of TAFE (like college)

I buy a lot of things like clothes, books, movies and some random things I want, but they pay for the food, and clothes before school, gas, my laptop and things for christmas, and my grandparents paid for my car. My mom uses a lot of coupons and get things really cheap at the store, so she doesn't have a big problem with buying me things as long as it's not too expensive. I have a lot of money saved up in the bank for school, so I could probably buy a lot of things, but I want to save it for college. I only buy on sale, and I get $10 a week, but I don't have a job because of school. It doesn't seem to bother my parents, I'll offer to pay for things or give them the money if they pick something up but they just tell me to keep it.

My parents pay for my phone bill, they bought me a laptop for my 16th birthday, a Zune for my 15th and I get to use their cars when I need one and there's hardly ever a issue with that..otherwise I get rides from friends. If I go on a joy ride then I have to pay for gas, which isn't a big deal.
But they'll pay for school stuff and when I get to college in a year and a half we're both paying for the cost. My family isn't the "greatest money wise" but we aren't struggling either. I don't remember ever just getting anything I asked for. I needed a good excuse if I wanted them to buy it, or save from Christmas and my Birthday.
Ever since I got a job last...April, I wanna say, I've realized there is a lot more I want to buy but I have to be very careful with money. I used to spend money ASAP when I got money but the only money I've spent the past month is Christmas money. (: So I'm doing good so far.

I buy all my clothes. That includes everything from shirts to bras! In the summer, I bought a lot for myself, like shampoo, conditioner, etc. but when I didn't have a job anymore, my parents did.

One thing i'm very lucky at is I don't have to pay for gas or insurance. I'm in cheerleading, and because of cheerleading, I really don't have the time to have a job, so my mom thinks its fair that if you're in a sport, you don't have to pay for gas or insurance. but my sister was never in a high school sport and had a job her senior year so she had to. I think it makes sense. but I'm so lost when it comes to gas!

The things my parents pay for are my clothes and food. I pay for things that I want like games or DVDs, but I rarely buy anything, so I guess my parents buy everything in theory...
