I'm a mutt, too. On my mom's side, my ancestors came over from England in the late 1600's, on dad's side, they came over from Germany in the mid-1700's. Then they all just married whoever! From the genealogy, though, I'm English, Irish, German, Scots, Cherokee, and who knows what else.

I am eligible to join the DAR, though.

Biological Mother was 1/2 Chinese, 1/4 English, 1/4 Irish
Biological Father - unknown
Adopted Mother - 100% Italian
Adopted Father - 100% German
That makes me a stubborn, talks with my hands American.
My DH is adopted too - we think he is Irish & Dutch.
My DD is just about a little of everything!

My maternal side is completely Dutch. That family never left Holland. My grandmother married a Dutch Jewish boy which was a terrible scandal on both sides back in those days. They did not do well unfortunately.

My paternal side is half Norwegian and half a mixture. My grandmothers' parents emigrated from Norway with their families, met in the US and married. My aunt has been tracing the mixed side and has come up with English, Irish, French and a bit more Dutch.

Maternal side is Italian; paternal is Irish. I look more and relate to the Italian side, however. Like someone else said, it was most predominate in the household.

I'm of Italian/Sicilian, German, and Puerto Rican descent.

I mostly indentify with being an Italian-American since that is the family, food, and culture that I was raised in with a splash here and there of German foods. The only Puerto Rican influence I got was in my Spanish classes. My maiden name was Spanish.

If people ask for my ethnicity, I will say all three. If they ask my for my nationality, I'll say American.

My Mom, who was born in North Africa, is 100% Italian.

My Dad was born in Italy & 100% Italian.

They both remained in their respective native lands until their 30's when my Dad visited North Africa, met & married my Mom within a month & they moved to NY! That's where I came into the picture!

I was thinking the same thing! I may identify more strongly as a Disneyite than anything else, especially on this board!

So the question is: Should we Disers request a new category on the census?
