Inspired by Starbucks tipping thread....

It seems to be a mystery these days as to whom should be tipped and how much. I have always thought only those who are paid LESS than minimum wage should be tipped. Anyway, with this rash of tipping jars etc popping up in everyday minimum wage jobs, I was wondering.........

Can we get a list of jobs that pay LESS than minimum wage? I mean, I would like to make sure I tip the appropriate people. I know waitresses depend on tips, but who else?

Pizza drivers make less than min wage and depend on tips.

I always knew about Waitstaff and pizza delivery drivers, but can't think of any others so I'm bumping this up because I'm curious.

I know someone that is a haridresser and she only makes minimum wage and therefore depends on tips. Gosh, I can't imagine actually going to school for something and then only making minimum wage.

i dont know who you are supposed to tip, but here is how i do it. i tip anyone who provides a service. maids, housekeeping, waiters, pizza delivery, hairdressers, etc.

Thank you worm. I try to do that too, but actually, the point of my topic was to find out which jobs out there make LESS than minimum wage. If you look at it a certain way, EVERYONE provides a service. If you are going to tip a maid, then you should hunt down the janitors at JC Penny and give them a tip. If you tip a bellman in a hotel, why wouldn't you tip the employee who carries your clothing selection to the cash register in one of the higher quality department stores? Larry David on Curb your Enthusiasm said it best......Why do you have to tip someone who is just doing their job? Providing a service? Everyone does that! Tipping would never end!

Teachers aides within my district! As they prorate the pay, and account for holidays, my pay is sadly less than minimum!

Tanya & I tip for the following (hope this helps)

1) waitors/waitresses - they really need it and I think we always over-tip LOL we usually leave anywhere from $5 to $20 depending on the food price.

2) bartenders - They make you what you need/want, and most of the time do a darn good job of it!

3) hairdressers - I have a motto "if you cut it good i'll give you a good tip. bad cut, no tip!" I like to follow that one by heart.

4) maids/housekeeping staff - They clean up your mess. 'nuff said.

5) Last but not least, *I* like to tip my coffee people (I NEVER go to starbucks) because without my tripleshot espresso i'm a mean person

Good question, Sleepy. I was thinking about that myself.

Sorry I can't think of any others who technically make less than minimum wage, but I will say that if you add up the hours they work, a LOT of the young enlisted people serving in the armed forces make much less than minimum wage! Guess I should tip them too!

DH and I figured up during a deployment several years ago he made less than $2 an hour.
