Could someone actually GIVE you points? In other words, could someone give DVC as a gift? I kind of think not, but I don't know!

Interesting. But if parents can bequeath in a will - which I suppose is a form of gift giving - couldn't outright gift giving be possible, if you pay any legal fees to change the names on the contract?

I ask because we have a friend who passed away last fall. We had helped him buy DVC for his family, and they now want to gift it to us. I was led to believe that was NOT possible.

I am pretty sure it is possible. It would be handled like someone gifting a piece of real estate, though it may be more easily done with $1 "nominal consideration" -- the deed will have to be transferred and recorded, so there will be some (I would think minimal) "legal fees". Of course, if it was financed, the financing agreement may not be transferrable through Disney -- that would probably require that you be approved for financing through them and then take over the financing payments, just like someone assigining a mortgage. Don't let the issue drop just because someone told you it might not be possible. Continue to pursue it because I think it is possible. I am hoping to "gift" points to each of our kids when they are older.

There is no financing to worry about. I was wondering if Disney could excersise a ROFR in the case where a non-family member gifted to another DVC member.

I'd contact Membership Administration and ask them. I bet there's a way around this is they are actually giving it to you. If they were selling it cheaply, this would be another matter. I know there's a way to give it to living children without having to go through the ROFR issue but I know this is somewhat different. Let us know what they say.
