Inspired by Eros' commute: For MA. Disers is it Rt 128 or 95?

128 or 95 is making me crazy ( ok I was already a bit on the crazy side ). When I was younger it was 128. Now only part of it is still 128 and the rest is 95 or something like that I think of the road as 128. Some people still give directions as 128 but other people call it 95. Now that I am thinking about it is it both? What do you call it?

The part outside my window is both 128/95. I tend to call it 128.
I think the tricky part is up north a bit, like near Rt 1 is up where it splits into 2 different highways 128 or 95, but around here its both. I think.

It is both.. 128 goes from braintree to where 95 comes up from the south, just before route 1. It is then both roads all the way around through Newton, Waltham, Burlington untill 95 goes north to New Hampshire and it is just 128 again.

No one really knows, that's why any and all answers are acceptable.

umm I definately thought 95, 93 and 91 are totally different routes

I grew up in Canton, south of Boston. I remember when 128 was first being built across the north side of Canton. It is a looped highway. I95 comes up from Rhode Island and ends in Canton at 128. It picks up again north of Boston, I really don't know what town it is. Then it continues up to Maine.

To me I95 is I95. It definetly is not RT1. That is a seperate road, not a highway. Isn't 93 the Mass Pike?? It's been many years since I lived there.

No No NO LOL!!! 93 is north-south from Boston up into NH........Mass Pike is east-west from Boston to western Mass.

LOL this thread strikes me so funny.........I grew up in Massachusetts and pretty much know how to get places on all these roads...but can't give instructions to someone trying to use the route numbers.
Bt Alex is right about 128/95, I do know that

It will always be 128 to me. Too many bad memories burned into my brain. Thank God I do not live anywhere near there anymore.

I have family along 128 (in Peabody and Wakefield), and we usually just call it 128. However, when we give someone directions, we always give them both route numbers and explain that it is the same route. We made the mistake of telling someone who was not familiar with the area to take 128 to my sister's house in Peabody, and the person wound up getting totally lost. We won't make that mistake again.

So glad to see that I'm not the only one who still gets confused! Too me it will always be 128.
