Inspired by Dan Murphy....have you ever met

internet people that you weren't 100% sure you were going to like in person, but they turned out to be just awesome?

Yes.

The first person I met from the DIS was betz. She is even more awesome in person and has turned out to be one of my best friends.

Same with Jenzebelle. She's pretty, witty and has a wonderful husband.

They are great real life friends and I have the DIS to thank for introducing me to them.

I'm always pleasantly surprised, thank goodness. There are times when I wonder if the bomb is going to drop and I am going to meet some real loser/kook - but so far my luck has been good.

Sorry we didn't get a chance to do lunch while at DIS Con, bumbles. I know you and I would have gotten along famously.

Yes, that has happened to me too. Just ask glo! We were expecting to not like each other at all, based on some Resort Board disagreements, but surprise, surprise! She realized that I am not the big meanie that I have to "play" on the boards some time and I realized that she really WAS under 5 feet tall! We have become good friends and now laugh about how she "used" to be intimidated by me until she met me.

I consider myself very blessed and grateful...I've met some truly amazing people via the net who I'm sure without it, I would never have the pleasure of knowing.

I haven't talked to Dan but I'm not sure someone who loves DIS meets as much as him was being negative. Maybe he was just inquiring.
I have posted way too much to that thread (LOL you all are thinking "yeah, right!") but I'm not mad or upset with anyone. I didn't know he was by asking the question. Maybe I'm really out of the loop this time...

Oh I have too!!!!! I remember my first meet still - I was so intimidated by getting to meet Dopeygirl and Dan at one time!!!! And all the others....they turned out to be much greater (as have all the others I've met) than I ever imagined!!!!

A direct answer to your question though, Bumbles, I don't think I have met anyone yet that I was not 100% sure I was going to like in person, whom I subsequently thought was awesome. I have met some whom met the first criteria of your question, and I subsequently thought they were fine, though maybe not awesome. Virtually anyone whom I have never met in person I would enjoy meeting in person, saying that after having met quite a few hundred DIS folks over the years here.

Maybe I'm not explaining myself right--I was referring to meeting someone who you were like, huh, maybe I'll like her, maybe I won't....

I mean, some people you know right off, you're going to hit it off.

Some people, I know I wouldn't get along with....

It's the ones that I'm neutral about and then I meet them and I'm like, man, this is an awesome person!

It's all about giving people a chance

Absolutely.

In fact, I told one of them last weekend how pleasantly surprised I was by how awesome they were. I actually had no preconcieved notions going in to meet them - in fact, this particular person I hadn't really talked to much online.. but once I met this person in the flesh - they were really really awesome!
