Found out that Santa didn't actually bring those gifts... LOL

I don't. I have no idea how old I was-- all I remember is my brother (3.5 years older) telling me that he had known for a long time and had only pretended for me. LOL

How about you?

When I was seven, I told my mother that I knew the truth about the tooth fairy and she said, "Good, then I can stop giving you money for your teeth." And she did.

I've believed in Santa Claus ever since. At least I never told my mother any different.

I was just thinking about this. I don't recall ever finding out that there was no Santa Claus. I think I just sort of grew up and it dawned on me that there might not be a man flying through the air with a team of reindeer. :teeth:

But I can't recall a specific moment when someone told me he wasn't real. I also had 5 younger siblings, so Santa was always sacred in our house. No one dared to say he wasn't real, for fear of ruining it for the little ones.

My parents told me when I was 8 years old. I do remember that I had it figured out when I was about 5 or 6 because I knew that Santa wouldn't use the same wrapping paper as what my mom used for others. I just played along because I wasn't sure what to expect if it was found out that I didn't believe :teeth:

The other day at school I was telling my little group of kids that I hoped Santa would bring me some new markers for Christmas (the ones I have are not that great anymore) One of the boys (in grade 4) said to me...you still believe in Santa? so I said of course I do....who else would bring all those presents. He looked at me with the most serious face and said Miss B, I hate to tell you this, but it is your mom and dad that do all that. Then he said, it's ok if you still believe Miss B, when you get old like you you have to believe  Old like me!???! I asked him how old he thought I was, and he said at least 20. (nice save, considering I am a bit past the 20's :p )

It was a slow realization for me. I then didn't want to tell my parents since I thought they would be disappointed. In fact, I still haven't told my mother:D :D

I was 8, in the 3rd grade and, devastated, some big mouth kid with older siblings, I'm sure blurted it out. I also had no one to confirm this with since, I too, believed that if I said something, the presents would stop. So, I started looking for the 'stash' instead. ;) I found it but, I didn't tell my brother for another year or 2.

I found out when I was 8...but I kept that little secret to myself. I got better presents that way :)

Oh, I just remembered something-- I'm not sure how old I was, but probably 4 or 5. I woke up Christmas Eve and had a tummy ache. My room was next to my parents so I went in there. They weren't there so I went up to the front of the house (the living room).

I walked in and several of my older siblings and my parents were busy doing stuff. My dad took me and turned me around and walked me back to my room. I don't think it was until a few years later that I realized they were filling the stockings and wrapping presents.

I guess I still wanted to believe. LOL

My 2nd grade teacher told us but I don't think it really sunk in. Like a lot of you, I really don't remember an exact moment.

I was 8. My 7 yr old brother found our presents and showed them to me. We didn't buy the story from our parents that Santa was hiding them there.

I remember the time that my ds was 3 and he got some starter skates... the front 'brake' had broken off before he even used them, and I told him not to worry we could exchange them. He was devastated to learn that Santa didn't actually make all those presents.... He did believe for another 5 years, though. :)

My older brother who is 5 years older than me told me when I was 8 years old. And I cried!

I don't remember how old I was BUT i remember how i found out.
I never sleep the night before christmas..now I can but when I was younger I never did...well my room used to be right by the stairs..and one christmas eve my dad dropped some of the presents down the stairs...that's how i found out there was no santa claus...

I was 6 or 7 when I figured out that Santa brought me the same gifts Mom had in the attic, and he had the same handwriting as both Mom and Dad.

My Mother didn't realize I didn't believe until I was about 9. Then she threatened to beat me within an inch of my life if i told my brother :p

I was in first grade. My brothers decided that I didn't need to believe anymore.

I do! My mom and I were walking home from a Girl Scout Communion Breakfast at our church. I was in either first or second grade and asked her (probably for the zillionth time) if Santa was real. I was crushed when she answered "No!" My dad had always done such a great job of lieing about that one. LOL! Mom was the one who burst my bubble. :(

This is sad.....but I don't remember believing or finding out. I am sure I believed, I think I will have to ask my siblings about this time in my life. They are always more than happy to 'point' my childhood out to me.

Hey, this is the first time I've ever inspired a post....COOL!:bounce:

I was in 4th grade, right after school started. The boy who sat behind me told me. It's odd that he brought it up in Sept, but when I went home and asked my mom, she told me. It's funny, I never doubted the existence of a large man in a red suit leaving gifts for all children around the world. I never could grasp the whole concept of a giant rabbit though!

My DS was in 3rd grade (same as my daughter in question) when he asked me one night about Santa, Easter Bunny and Tooth Fairy. I told him the truth and told him to keep it to himself. Naturally, he ran and told my other daughter, who was in 2nd grade at the time. She was crushed! :( I told DS that if he told Jessie (4 at the time) about Santa, Santa would NOT be coming for him that year!! :earseek:

It's odd, I guess, that I didn't think twice about telling Kirk the truth at the same age. Jessie just seems so much more innocent than he did at 8.
