Inspired by browneyes and epcotfan.....

Crick sometimes, Creek sometimes. I don't know what causes me to use one pronunciation over another though. :confused:

Wash - always.

Wire, fire, tire - with long I's.

And route - like root. :teeth: But occasionally - like out. :rolleyes:

I go to Sonic and order a Route 44 (I say it like root). I usually have to say it a couple of times because they're not familiar with that word (some of them recognize my voice by now though;)). I never say it like out (another little word my SO makes fun of the way I say things unSouthern like:o:teeth: ).

do you say water or warter?

I do say route like root and r-out

I once dated an English boy who couldn't understand why we (Americans, I guess) said 'route' like R-OUT instead of like R-OOT. Now I am all turned around about that word and will avoid it if possible.;)

I mean, think about it, doesn't the song go:

"get your kicks
on Route (ROOT!) 66!" ?

:teeth:

I would have a paper ROUT, but would get my kicks on ROOT 66 like in the song.

I always WASH my clothes, but then I live in WASHington.

Well it's CREEK & WASH here in Oz;) :D :) :bounce: :Pinkbounc

And DOG not DAWG......:p

And ROOT not ROUTE.:p

DRAWER.......YEAH DRAWER...............AS IN DRAW:cool:

WOK not WARK...........

:Pinkbounc :bounce:

Yup. Drawer as in chest of or desk, etc..

Panties are just that, but that's what my wife wears, not me... I think.

You know, when you really think about it, we really screw up our own language!

I used to take offense at being told I had a New York accent. That was something people who lived a whole 30 miles away had. Oh well... I'm so confused... I should get back to work...

Todd, I say water, not warter.

I also say ither for either and nither for neither (I get flack about that from EVERYONE).

George, everyone that aren't from Georgia say I have a VERY distinctive southern accent. I don't think I have an accent.:p

creek, my dad's side of the family says crick....that is the hillbilly side, I am part hillbilly.

What about wash or worsh?:p

Creek and wash (wosh).

Mind you, "Creek & Wash" could be the name of a detergent supplier! :jester:

Creek, not crick....wash, not warsh.... ya'll, not youse guys and here's a new one....how do you say e-a-g-l--e? My Dad used to pronounce this iggle! And Elaine...I am REALLY glad you do wash your clothes!!!

creek = creek
wash = wash
drawers = drawers
paper route = paper rout
Route I-95 or 66 = Root I-95 or 66
water = watter
dog = dog
neither = neether
either = eether
eagle = eagle
very = vary
berry = burry
ferry = furry
merry = murry
just = jest
:teeth:

My mom says: crick, wash, rout, follie (follow), keller (color), iggle (eagle) and eyetalian (Italian). :p

I say Creek and Wash and ya'll have added so many other words my poor brain is confoosled. :confused:

Let's see which ones I can remember...

Drawer is Drawer
Water is Water
Route is Root
Paper Route is Rout
Eagle is Eagle

Here's one for you guys, how do you say the word "Argue". I pronounce it Arg-u, my mom pronounces it Arg-ee.

Also, The crick, warsh thing has me confused, everyone here is saying those are hillbilly words? The only people I've ever heard talk like that were people from up North!
