Just asking so no flames please, would you be extremely upset if you'd booked an expensive WDW (or other) hotel to find when you got there it was overrun by 'grad night' or any other celebration that was extremely loud and stopped you from sleeping? would you feel you should have been warned about it before? or would you just accept the fact its on and keep schtum?
Another poster was very upset to find his sleep was interrupted until past 3 in the morning on a lot of nights but the general feedback from the other posters was 'you should have done your research' I feel its nice to be warned so you can change dates or hotels if you can and I don't mean just WDW - I mean as Brits we know that going to San Antonio, Ibiza during August isn't exactly conducive to a restful holiday but do you think its your right to be told that before you spend your hard earned pennies?

yes i would want to be told, whilst i appreciate that the hotel can do nothing about a few noisy guests a whole floor of them should be another matter.

If it was an official Disney event, then I would expect to be told. Events like Grad Night in April and Pop Warner in December can make a big difference to you enjoyment of a resort.
I've read that Pop Warner week is especially bad, with groups of very noisey cheerleaders invading the parks and resorts!

Some events are outside Disney's control though - like the Gay Days in June.

It's OK saying you should do your research if you are in the US and familiar with all the special celebrations and public holidays etc. But anyone coming from the UK wouldn't even know what a Grad Night was, even if Disney told them :)

Yes I would definitely want to be told something like that and yes I would definitely book elsewhere.

Having just spent three nights at the Alton Towers hotel where we were woken up every night with 20 somethings banging room doors, running in and out of each others room and shouting down the corridor at each other from 2:00 till 3:00 in the morning I can vouch that something like this would absolutely spoil my holiday.

As for ‘doing your homework’ there is really only so much you can find out.

My feelings exactly Goofyish, I just felt that poster was getting a rough deal, I think he was American but not sure, but even then I felt it was a bit harsh expecting him to know about every event that happens all over such a huge country

We stayed at The Polynesian Resort last April and they posted letters into our room explaning that we could expect "some unexpectided lights" in the evening due to the Grad Nite festivities.

The firework show was spectacular. It was on a *much* larger scale than WISHES and there were fireworks going off from all over the place.

We were not disturbed by the noise or lights that night, despite our room directly faced MK. I thought Disney were wonderful about telling us to watch out for the show. I have no complaints at all.

I would prefer to be told that's for sure.

Having said that, we stayed at All Star Movies during Pop Warner and I had heard all manner of horror stories about the noise & disturbance a troupe of cheerleaders can make at ungodly hours of the day :teeth: but I can report that we barely even saw them, let alone were disturbed by them. So I think sometimes you can worry about something which doesn't materialize!)

But I would not be best pleased at being disturbed by noise at an unreasonable time. One of the advantages of a villa I guess!

I have not been to WDW before, so perhaps I don't understand :confused3

Surely if guest are spoiling the holiday for others and making a nuisance of themselves then hotel management can ask them to quieten down or suggest that unless they do they could be asked to leave.

I think you should be made aware of such events (as you would be told about building works etc) so you can make an informed choice. Going overseas is confusing enough so any help (such as these boards) are invaluable. I didnt even know when Thanksgiving was until I became addicted to reading all these threads etc.
We have recently been to Dorset in England and the flat we rented said in its bumf "fishing boats bobbing up and down outside the property. You can hear the gentle clink of the boats as they snooze in the black inky water. In the evenings the colourful lights from the restaurants and holsteries throw fleeting colours into the night". What it forgot to mention was the flippin' great nightclub opposite which remained open till 3am most nights!! Try sleeping in a flat that has no double glazing (it looked so quaint, honest) whilst listening to "Is this the way to Ama-blinkin-rillo" at least 5 times.....UGH!!!! This information would have probably led to a change of plans. You expect some noise on your holidays but shouldnt be made to put up with others bad manners just because they too are on their hols.

I don't think it is in the hotel's best interests to tell people if they have block bookings from certain parties, also they do not know if there will be any noise disturbances. What hotels should ensure is that they have security going round and if people are causing a disturbance they are dealt with straightaway.

I have stayed at a holiday complex in this country and on two occasions have been disturbed by noise. Once when a load of teenagers decided to play hide and seek outside our accommodation till the early hours of the morning, utter nightmare. The second time we stayed I made a mental note to find out security's number. This time a group staying near by decided to have their patio window wide open and talked loudly till the early hours. I resorted to phoning the security desk and they sorted them out straightaway. Noise disturbance is never acceptable and people should be more considerate of others. :)

I wouldn't want to stay where excitable teenagers are, who are not supervised by parents. There is nothing wrong with having fun but it is difficult for others to cope with if they are desperately trying to sleep.

i have never heard of grad night or pop warner but i think my dh would love to be there for the latter.

We stayed at the Omni Rosen Xmas 2000.

At the same time there was a Christian Youth thing going on. Bad move.

As the kids were barred from drinking etc, they spent most of the evening sitting in the corridors talking(shouting?) with each other. This didn't do down well, after several polite requests to shut it we called the hotel security. Job done.

In the pool area there were the leaders who were allowed to drink , bring bottles into the area. A few sharp words and a bit of chest puffing later and the idiots went back to the lounge to drink their beer instead of staggering around the hot tub gripping their warm Bud Light.

We did get some recompence from the hotel in the form of credits. No matter how carefully you plan you'll always have the unexpected drop, ride with it and make the most. If it's that bad then get straight onto the hotel management.

Hiya :wave2:

I would be unhappy about this but wherever & whenever you go away there can be unexpected hiccups such as these and unless something got out of hand I would just go with the flow (I wear earplugs due to DF snoring so they would have to be pretty loud to bother me anyway!)

I would be unhappy that I hadnt been told about something that the hotel did know about in advance but ultimatley would I have changed my plans had I known? - Probably not.

Trouble is the american's have a holiday nearly every month in the year. And where do they head for on their holidays -yes, you've guessed it exactly the same place we do DISNEY.

On the 3 times that we've been, 2 times at thankgiving the only thing that increased at our hotel was the amount of school children.

Children are children when their with parents they tend to be better behaved, with the odd one or two exceptions. But school kids and teachers are a bad mix. There's never enough teachers to control the behaviour of some of their out of control students. The hotel does'nt have to tell us who the other guests are, their all paying customers like the rest of us.

But I would'nt let it spoil my holiday - their usually only their for 2 to 3 days anyway :cheer2: :Pinkbounc :cheer2: :Pinkbounc .

I am staying there in July but am pleased to see hotel security sorted the problem out straight away. :)
