I just wanted to mention to those who are considering flying out of BUF for the first time, there is a neat indoor kids play area by the boarding gates. It is a few minutes walk before the Southwest gates.

I thought I had researched our Dec/2004 trip very well and had NO idea about the play centre. We were at the airport early for our flight, got through security super fast and had nothing to do for at least an hour. Well low and behold, I'm walking to the Independence Air gate and what did the kids spot, a nice sized play center. Needless to say, they had a blast while DH and I relaxed. I would say it would be ideal for kids aged 2-8.

IMHO, BUF is awesome in so many ways compared to YYZ.

My Daughter loves it!

It is especially helpful when there is a delay!

Cool! All airports should have one of these. In Jan. ds(19 mths) "played" on the moving sidewalks with dh while we waited  at YYZ. Airports sure aren't toddler friendly!

There is also one outside security just by Burger King if you are waiting for someone or have to pass time before/after checkin.

Was waiting for DH to arrive last summer and had DS5 with me. He had a ball, it was all Little Tykes stuff, plus a TV for me! BUF is a great airport. DH flies through there weekly.

That sound lovely!! I am dreading the time period b/w checking in, security and then boarding as I have a very lively 19mos old. The 4 yr old will be ok, but this one is a little monkey  !!! I wish they had a play area as that would sure blow off some steam before they have to sit on the airplane for almost 3 hours. I am seriously considering doing the Buffalo airport next year when we go on the March Break. My only concern is that Buffalo has a tendency to get a lot of bad weather ... is it anymore of a concern than at Pearson?? Not only for outgoing flights, but I also worry about us having to get there if it is bad weather! How far in advance do they start selling seats? Would it be this fall, late August?

I wouldn't worry about bad weather. DH has been flying in/out BUF weekly for over 1 year. He drives to/from Toronto. He has never been delayed in BUF because of weather. I would say they are prepared for it and it would be no different than Pearson.

Side note: He was delayed out of BUF last Saturday due to mechanical. He just got a very nice unexpected appology letter from Air Tran that I suspect went to all the passengers delayed. In the letter it offered a free round trip airfare good for one year anywhere they fly as compensation! Great customer service - wow!
