I know it's just starting tonight so most people won't be able to answer this question until over the weekend or later, but I'm really interested in hearing others' opinions on Inside Out for younger kids. I want to take my just turned three year old girl to see it but I'm afraid I'm jumping the gun. Maybe I'm rushing her because of how badly I want to see the movie!

We took her to see Big Hero 6 when she was only 2.5 and she was mesmerized. I thought that story was actually a little hard to follow for a little one but she handled it really well and sat quietly through the whole thing. At least this one seems to be a little brighter and more colorful with some fun characters. (Although the reason we took her to the last movie was that she was obsessed with Baymax before the movie was even out!)

Anyway, has anyone else seen the movie with someone from the preschool set or watched it with one in mind? What do you think?

I have seen the movie, though I have little experience with kids at all. I certainly don't think there is any reason at all not to bring a child that age to see it (i.e. there is nothing inappropriate or too scary) but they might not follow the plot too well. Then again, people often don't give kids enough credit for stuff like that. It's a bit more complex than BH6, but it can still be enjoyed for the funny characters even if one does not follow the emotional line.

There is enough color and action on screen to keep the attention of young children who are able to sit and watch a kids movie. There are points in the story that are slower, and they won't understand the overall story, but the funny characters of different shapes and colors should be fun.

I took my almost 2 year old. She had no clue what was going on but she liked it. She sat quietly throughout the movie and talked about Sadness later.

It's a sad movie, but it is less scary than Big Hero 6. Your daughter will be fine.

I'm a psychology student at school so I was excited for this movie. I ended up taking my 5 year old neice to the movie and she liked it. Of course she is a few years older but the other kids in the theater were just as quiet and into it.
I didn't think this one was as bad as big hero 6. Don't get me wrong, I love the movie and baymax is adorable. But when it comes down to it that movie is about death and grieving for the most part.
Inside out had sad moments but it's also filled with silly fun ones as well. As for scary, the only thing I could think that may scare a child is the clown in the dream. Not trying to give out spoilers...
Even still, that part of the movie is brief. Like others have said its really colorful and fun. But you know your child better than anyone else. But to be honest there isn't much that could scare children in this one. It was a cute movie.

My daughter has been frightened by most Disney movies -Finding Nemo, Big Hero 6, Bug's Life, etc. She wasn't frightened at all by Inside Out. This movie is more sad than scary.

I just took my 5 year old and she loved it. There were other kids there younger than her, and a little girl sitting near us (about 3 or 4 yrs old) who was totally into it the whole time. It's really a great movie for any age.

My 7YO and 4.5YO loved it in different ways. My 7YO got the whole storyline. My 4YO focused on the characters inside Riley's head. And DH and I focused on the larger commentary about life. All of us loved it for different reasons. It isn't scary, and there is something for everyone.
