Inside Out brings Joy to everyone!

Okay, for those who have seen it....there's a scene where Riley is having a dream....and her new house is depicted as a haunted, foreboding place....Please tell me I'm not crazy and that they were playing the Haunted Mansion theme in the background. Not Grim Grinning Ghosts, but the instrumental part....

Liked the movie. DD (2.5) said she liked it immediately after it was done.

I heard it too!! You're not crazy.

Well Friday alone it brought in over 34 million. It's expected to have the second biggest weekend opening in pixar history behind toy story 3.

You aren't crazy. It was listed in the credits.

We noticed it too...not crazy..it's actually listed in the end credits.

It is not just a hit but one of the biggest for Pixar! Inside Out had the biggest opening weekend ever for an original property (not a sequel, franchise or from a book/comic), not only for Pixar or animated movies but for all movies. It stomped all over the previous record holder with $91M. That previous winner was Avatar with $77M. This is big because franchises and books come with built in fan bases that turn out for big openings. It is the third biggest animation opening ever after Toy Story 3 and a Shrek movie (Can't remember which one)

Watch this puppy have some long legs! It is universally loved (98% on the Tomato Meter) with some calling it the equal of Pixar's best, or even THE best, and an instant classic. It also has an A Cinema score from audiences. I bet it will set some records for Pixar. I love how even psychologists are saying the movie does a good job portraying the science reasonably well and the movie is a great way to talk to kids about their emotions!!

Yep--- the nightmare with the mice did play the "HM" theme music !!!

Just saw it tonight - my sister and a few of my female relatives went and saw it for her sixth birthday. She is in LOVE with the movie - and with good reason. It's extremely cute, charming, and emotional. It probably helps that it came out on her birthday, and her name is Riley as well...she is convinced the movie was made for her, lol. But I'd definitely say it's in my top three Pixar movies - Brave, Ratatouille, and and Inside Out. :)

We saw it last night and DW, DS13 and I all really enjoyed it. It did slow down and lose DS4 a couple of times but the movie was able to quickly reel him back in. I thought maybe it was just our son but there was another child in the theater who looked to be about his age who, by the middle of the movie, was sitting in the walkway watching videos on an iPad.

I'd have to agree. I took my nieces to see Up and found myself having to explain miscarriage to a 5 year old and 8 year old. It was years ago and I still feel the discomfort at the thought of it.

Weird... I never picked up on that. I assumed they were being told they were infertile. o_O;

I think Pixar is kid friendly in the sense that the movies can be enjoyed on a very simply level with bright colors, action, and humor, while at the same time having very adult friendly depth to the story.

Thank you! Go back and watch some of the old 80s kid flicks... we DON'T have to dumb things down for kids!

It also never even crossed my mind to explain miscarriage. I did explain to some kids that asked, how some people are sad they cannot have children. The assumption may come when the couple is decorating the baby room - some would assume the child must be on the way. Not necessarily. The movie showed the room decoration to make it clear they were looking forward to a baby, but that could have been done while trying to get pregnant.

Either way, it was something to explain to kids. But I think that is a good thing. Placed in proper context and done at a level appropriate for each child - something parents should know - it is good for them to begin to understand some of the sad parts of life.

This is why I love, love, love Pixar and Disney animation of late - good movies for children that have depth! It is so wonderful! Entertaining and powerful and useful. I had a blast using Frozen to talk to kids about the true definition of love - putting others before self. And Inside Out is going to become a staple for talking to children about their emotions!!

I loved all of the characters, truly, but I wasn't into the plot. IMO, they could have spent more time up front with the characters before the big move and the "adventure" part started. It seemed like they really stretched that out as much as they could and I got frustrated with all of the road blocks that kept getting thrown at them (trying not to be spoilery here ;).)
I would love to see some shorts with the characters in the future, though!

The Grim Grinning Ghosts "easter egg" was great. Any former Lost fans hear hints of the Life & Death theme, too? Michael Giacchino's scores are just wonderful.

The wife is clearly pregnant at one point. The miscarriage element is even mentioned in this review: http://articles.latimes.com/2009/jun/07/entertainment/ca-upmontage7

And I remember it because my 8 year old niece said "What happened to her baby?" UHHHHHH :bitelip:

I'm not someone who believes that we should hide the realities of life from kids. I just think it's more her parents place than mine to explain such things to her in the way they choose. And as someone who doesn't have children of my own, I was a bit unprepared and not expecting to have to go there. I think Up is a great movie, it just caught me off guard.

The characters in this movie were very good and the concept was interesting but the plot was boring and slow. There were no strong laugh lines or emotional pull of the heart strings. I am baffled how Inside-out could be considered to be the best Pixar movie or even in the top half. The cat in the last scene was the funniest part of the movie. I am glad however that most of you really enjoyed it.

I love it! I thought the whole idea of it was a breath of fresh air, I loved the whole emotional aspect and how you can't be happy ALL the time, but you need to cry and you need sadness in order to know what feels like what.

I'll definitely be seeing it again.

My 3.5 year old saw it with me as his first movie in a theater. He won't stop talking about it and talks about the emotions from the movie when he feels those same emotions (i.e. anger is at the controls). He also keeps talking about his core memories and loves Joy. I'm very thankful I chose Inside Out for his first movie theater experience. Definitely a win and on Father's Day none-the-less!
