Inside on the 7 night?

We had verandah staterooms on our 4 night cruise, but are considering inside staterooms on our next cruise (7 night Magic). I'm wondering how disappointing it would be to not have a verandah? Anyone cruise in both? Also, is it difficult to deal with no daylight in the cabin? Or, should we atleast get a porthole? What do you think?

Another question, how full are the January cruises? Would you assume there would be the ability to upgrade at the port? (the January 17, 2004 Magic)

Thanks!

January is the slow season for cruising, so you should have a pretty good chance on upgrading at port. If you used your verandah on a short 4 day cruise, you probably would get use of it also on the 7 day cruise. We had an inside cabin and I would just go sit out on (I think it was this deck) deck 6. I probably would become spoiled with a verandah and I can't afford to go there if I want to cruise as much as I would like!

We had 2 connecting cat 5 deck 7 rooms with verandahs for our three day cruise. We were not in the rooms very much. We loved the 3 day and booked the 7 day. We decided to try the cat 10's deck 7 for our 7day. I had the same questions as you. I am hoping that we will again be very busy and not miss the verandahs. We figure cruising with no verandah is better than not cruising at all.

We upgraded on our past January from a Category 10 to a Category 5. No problem because the ship wasn't full.

Personally, we'd prefer to have a verandah on the extended cruises like the 7-day. But for the 3 & 4 day, we decided to save money from now on and go for a less expensive stateroom.

If you do go for the inside staterooms, I would strongly recommend choosing rooms that are near the "secret" deck 7 aft verandah. That way, you will have easy access to an outside area that isn't usually too crowded.
On our three-peat, we were in a secret porthole room. Although it was nice to sunshine, we found ourselves spending a lot of time in the Rainforest that we would have spent outside if we'd had a verandah. The Rainforest is a nice alternative...a great place to spend a quiet hour or two with a book while snuggled in one of those heated tile loungers. Of course, my preference is a verandah, but if you want to be budgetary, you can make your own "outside" or "escape" time in those areas (and don't forget the comfy deck chairs on deck 4...another nice spot to hang out).
