Today while running the inside of my ankle hurt. I just ran throught the pain as it didn't get any worse (I did 3 miles.) It's been an hour & it no longer hurts. I can't find any info on-line about what it could be. Any ideas & any info on how I can stretch it, etc to make sure it doesn't hurt when I run Monday?

TIA!!!

I am wondering about your shoe fit. Have you been fitted for the shoes you are using? Perhaps that may be a problem. If it continues, I'd recommend going to your local running store and asking what they think. You may benefit with orthotics as well as a different shoe style. It may be over pronation or too much running too quickly.

That it has gone away after you've rested is encouraging.

Thanks Tiger Lily! I had done a bit of research last night & finally found out the answer, which of course was exactly what you said. I've actually been fitted with shoes but yesterday I was out & about and ended up wearing my regular running shoes (just a cheap pair for doing errands) while I ran. So I think this is exactly the issue & I won't make the mistake again.

Thanks so much for the reply, it helps to have as much advice as possible. I'm pondering running my first marathon in October & really don't want an injury this early!

Good that you've got it figured out. I know when I wear my orthotics, not custom just over the counter, it makes all the difference for me.

Since you are thinking about an Octover event, you might want to stop over to the events side of WISH (if you haven't already done so--sorry, I have not checked). There are many WISH folks doing a variety of events. We train throughout the year and support each other at various events. The place to start there is the weekly walking/running thread. All are welcome!

Ooo, I hadn't. I've posted on the events board but didn't know there was an official list of what people are running & when. THanks! I'll check it out & see if there are other newbies running in October. Putting my name on a list as running a marathong makes it sound sooo.... definate. Yikes!

glad you found the solution! I've been dealing with a similar issue. I can't figure it out because I don't get any swelling. I've been fitted for shoes and have been running with them for a week now. I get pain when I wake up in the morning. It goes away as I start walking on the ankle and it warms up, I guess. when I ran on Saturday, it started to hurt at mile 4. The week before it was at mile 3...so hopefully it is nothing major. Trying to avoid the doc...lol

I have the same problem when I wake up but I don't run. I feel better after I walk on it a while. It seems very similar to the bones spurs I have had in the past. The last couple of nights I have been using an ankle brace on it. It only lasts until about 2 AM when I feel like I have to pull it off but I have had less pain when I get up in the morning. I too have been trying to avoid the doctor.

That happened to me at my boxing class. It was like a Charlie horse in my foot/ankle. It hasn't happened since so I guess it was just a "thing".

interesting...I wonder what this is?? (other than annoying) lol

Well, my pain came back today inside my ankle, and I'm not running. Yesterday when I did my exercise it didn't bother me at all which I thought was odd, but today it is sore (along with my legs!) so I started taking fish oil. Hopefully the fish oil will cure all. I'm supposed to run today but I think I'll give it one more day & push my week back a day.
