Insert Catchy Title Here - An August PTR

I gotta be honest. That cabin/woodsy thing reminds me of every scary movie I have ever seen :lmao: I would not have been able to sleep a wink there. With that said, it looks gorgeous! and I am glad you had a great romantical time with hubbers!

Beka,

It looks beautiful there. Nice and relaxing.

VERY! :cloud9:

Wow, that cabin looked so nice and relaxing. I love that barn door too! I would be all over having one of those in my house if DH would let me. He thinks I'm too country for my own good. Psh, what does he know?

I'm curious to hear how the hot tub claimed your camera and how the rest of the trip went. Looks like fun!

It was VERY relaxing. I'm NOT the type to have a relaxing day on a vacation, much less have the whole vacation be that way! Well, we did do something on Tuesday & Wednesday, but you gotta wait for that!

Speaking of being coutnty, I say "yonder" and "reckon" so yeah... I can turn that stuff off though if I have to. At least I can say "oil" now; I used to pronounce it "awl".

So I guess I shouldn't have been so chummy with that big guy named Jason? DH's security guard told him to not go near any axe murderers while we were there!

Oh, that cabin looks so beautiful and peaceful, especially the hot tub/spa!:goodvibes I love the picture of the little lake with the gazebo.

Can't wait to hear what you got up to on Tuesday and Wednesday!:thumbsup2

Hey there...hopping on over from my PTR to say hello. I'm subscribing and all set for your adventures!

Let’s see, where’d I leave off?

Did I ever recover?
YES! Thank goodness! I was ready & raring to go the next morning! I should have been, I slept from 5 or 6 on & off until I finally went to bed at 10. Kyle made a dinner that night that consisted of blackened grilled tuna (rare, thankyouverymuch!), mango salsa, & Charleston red rice. Y.U.M. Too bad I was too groggy to really hold my head up, let alone enjoy the dinner.

What do you mean the spa ate the camera?
When a girl who has a low alcohol tolerance drinks, she tends to do stupid things. Like set the camera on the ledge of the hot tub instead of the table that is *right beside* the hot tub. Then when said girl gets in the hot tub, she is less than graceful, & splashes water all over the camera. I donno what the heck I was thinking. Was I planning on taking pictures of wildlife from the spa? *doh* Bonus is, I get a new camera! My old camera was, well, OLD. 5 years old. 3 mega pixels. My phone could take a better picture.

Did the weather ever get nice?
Thankfully, yes! I’m not a fan of rainy days, but they did force me to calm down & relax, which isn’t something I do on vacation. I always want to do & see as much as possible, just in case I don’t ever go back.

So the sun came out, and I was ready & raring to go, camera in hand.

We decided that we would head up to Chimney Rock this day, since it was close by. We had to drive around part of Lake Lure to get there as well, so we saw part of that too.

You can get to the top of Chimney Rocky by 1 of 2 ways: climb the stairs, or take the elevator.

We took the elevator.
31209032.jpg

It’s at the end of a tunnel that’s about 200ft long. I could have sworn I heard the faint sounds of pick axes & “Hi-ho, hi-ho, it’s off to work we go…”

You come off the elevator into the gift shop (hello? Disney?). We got a CD for Conner of a man playing the hammered dulcimer, as he loves the sound. The CD is of Confederate songs from the Civil War. *Sigh* Only in the South.
31209050.jpg

You can see the dulcimer behind me.

This is Chimney Rock:

And here’s what you can see from there:

(That body of water is Lake Lure)

From there, we took the stairs up to the Opera Box, then on to Devil’s Head.

Next it was on to Hickory Nut Falls. This waterfall was in the movie “Last of the Mohicans”. The hike round trip took about an hour. It was fun hearing the roar of the falls getting louder as we got closer.

Some photos from along the way:

And finally, the falls:

We were pretty much beat at that point. And hungry. We headed into Chimney Rock Village (or whatever it’s called, I can’t remember) and had fried trout at a place called Genny’s. It was pretty dang good! Stop in & have a chat with the owners, they’re really nice people! Locally owned, family run, and they let the staff keep their kids there if they need to, which I think is great. They raised their kids there, and now their grand kids. I love those kinds of places!

We did a bit more shopping & headed back to the cabin. Dinner that night was grilled shrimp & veggies. Yum & yum!

We didn’t do much Wednesday. We tried to hit up the Blue Ridge Parkway, but apparently there was a rock slide or something, and a large portion was closed. Here are some photos from our trip on the parkway & some other little roads we had to take on a detour:

Once we got close to Asheville, we stopped at the Folk Art Center, got a few souvenirs, & decided to head home.

Well, that’s it for my mini TR within my PTR. Hope you were entertained!

More on the PTR later! I have a pharmacology test this week, then a paper, sim lab, and test next week, so I’ll be just a little busy!

Oh my gosh, what stunning pictures. Mother Nature is so beautiful.:goodvibes My favourite shots are of the waterfall, so pretty!

Thanks for writing your mini TR... little getaways are just the right thing for making the Disney countdowns bearable.

Good luck with your busy week!!

Looks like you guys had a great time in NC! You guys must drive fast because it definitely takes us a solid 6 hours! :rotfl2: Our house is in Columbus, NC. It's a shirt ride from Chimney Rock. I love that place. Haven't been to it since I had kids though. OMG can you imagine the baby there!? :scared1: NEVER!

Love all the pics!

Sounds like the hot tub (we'll blame it ) did you and your camera a favor! That totally sounds like something I would do.

Love the nature pictures...very nice! The view from Chimney Rock is amazing!!

VERY! :cloud9:

Ha, I try to keep it turned off but sometimes I'll slip into my "Hoosier Twang" and DH cringes. My biggest problem is when I say "fer" instead of "for"...yeah, that's bad!

Thanks! I need it! I'm trying to study for my pharmacology test that is tomorrow, but instead I find myself doing this :surfweb:

We took that 1st exit off 26 when you cross into NC. I thought we were going to have to go into Asheville, but we didn't. DH is used to navigating mountain roads, since he grew up in the mountains of KY.

your hubs is so sweet ! Glad you had a nice relaxing mini vacay!

Thanks! It was awesome!

Thanks for sharing your trip with us. Sounds like you had a great time!

We did! I'm ready for another one! (WDW, prehaps! ::MickeyMo

*secretly thanks the hot tub* You can totally see the lines it has burned into the camera in the pics of the mountains. It's less obvious in the ones that have lots of trees - just looks like a bunch of power lines. But it's messing up pics of Conner for the family :rolleyes1

One test down, one to go (and a paper, and a lab).

I’ve had a few things in the works regarding the trip lately.

First, I’ve been working on a countdown calendar. However, it’s still a work in process, so that’s why it’s not on here yet. I’m making a regular calendar, with WDW characters as the picture. I’ll have to print it at school, so it’ll be in black & white. Since it’s not done, I’ve obviously not printed it, but I’ll post pics as soon as it’s complete! I do still want to snag some Mickey head paint samples from Home depot & make something with those (magnets?)

Since the hot tub ate my camera (I still don’t know what I was thinking. Was I going to take pictures of raccoons from the hot tub? Sheesh.) I have been in the market for a new one. Well, really, I’ve wanted one for about a year now, but my old one worked just fine, and I didn’t see any reason to replace it. I love those DSLRs or whatever they’re called, but there is NO WAY I could afford one of those until I’m working. I saw in Carrie’s TR (aka Lurkyloo) some pretty nice photos, and asked her what kind of camera they were using. I’m pretty sure she said a Powershot. Another friend of mine, who does have a DSLR (that subsequently died over Christmas break when the back tire of their van ate it in the drive way) has a Powershot, & to be quite honest, I couldn’t tell much difference between the two.

I was on a mission after the Fuji went for a swim. For a measely (ha!) $150, I could get a 10mp camera, with 4x zoom. I really hope that means something to you, cuz it only kind of does to me. I just knew that for the price, those numbers were higher than the other cameras. Consumer Reports rated a similar Canon highly for the point n shoots, so I had my mind made up.

Let’s welcome the newest member of my family:
canon_a1000_2.jpg

So now I can finally get some decent shots! It even has a setting for fireworks! Where better to use that that WDW?! No where, that’s where!

‘K, I’m outta here. Got lots to do in the way of school, and not any time to do it. I’d explain just how much above & beyond one has to go to just pass a nursing course, but I don’t want to bore you. Go hug a nurse for me!

Wow, that camera was only $150? What a great deal!! I've always wanted a camera with a setting for fireworks.:goodvibes Disney really is the best place to test any camera out.

I have umm... some sort of Canon? and I love it! I'm really not a camera person but it takes clear pictures, the battery lasts FOREVER and it's pretty easy to use. That's all it take to make me happy LOL!

Can't wait to see the pictures you take w/ the new one!

Wow! That is a good deal! 10 mp and 4X zoom for $150 is good. Especially because it's a Canon! :goodvibes Cameras are one of those things that I always advise to stick with the big companies like Nikon, Canon, etc. I have a little Nikon... I have no idea which model, but I love it! I'm sure your new camera won't let you down!

Oh... and to make you feel better. When I took a smiliar trip to a cabin in the woods and there was a hot tub on the back porch- I totally had my cell phone, wine, and my camera. :rotfl: I somehow managed to set it all on a ledge on the wall (after getting in :rolleyes1) and it all worked out, but I promise you are not the only one to put hot tubs and cameras together! :goodvibes

Ha, I thought those WERE power lines in your pictures. I thought...wow, those really take away from the ambiance.

Like the new camera! That's really cool it has a setting for fireworks. I'm currently looking for a new camera, too. One of my priorities is that it has to take great pictures during the fireworks and at night. The one I currently have makes all my pictures look like I have the shakes, or something. :confused3 Can't wait to see the pictures your new camera takes.

It just hit me today that I'm going to Disney! Man, I'm not half as excited as I expected to be. I think it's partly because I'm so immersed in nursing school. I also think it's because I'm so used to NOT going to Disney! I read the Dis daily, and have been since a WDW trip was dangled in front of me as a promotion at work. (We never went. :sad1:) So I would read, and think "Boy, when it comes time to plan my own Disney trip, I'm gonna be set", but here I sit!

From what my SIL says, my MIL usually winds up paying for a lot of stuff. I just wish that if she was going to buy our tickets, I would know ahead of time. I think I need to have DH somehow ask her in a way that doesn't make us seem like we're trying to mooch. I can hear it now "Hey Mom, ya gonna pay for our tickets or what?" My mom has already written my MIL & said she wants to go dutch. Meaning, don't pay for all of the kids' stuff so we don't feel obligated to do so. Gah.

I really feel like I'm in limbo right now. The room is taken care of. We know we're driving there. But what parks on what day? Are we going to do Sea World? (If it was up to me, no, we wouldn't, but DH wants to go.)

Yuck. I feel like I should be way more excited than I am!

Well, just so this post isn't a total downer, I'll add this pic of some cute duckies I took yesterday:

Any tips ya'll?

Now you see why I needed a new one! I haven't played around much with the settings, so we'll see what this baby can really do!

Nice to know I'm not the only one! :rotfl:

:woohoo::woohoo: for the new camera........... :thumbsup2

I'm excited to use it! So far, I've just been futzing around the house with it.

The next "step up" from this one is a 12mp, but it was $200, and I just didn't wanna spend that for 2mp more. I wish the weather would get sunny again so I could take a decent photo! I plan on really testing it out in July for fireworks. I just hope it doesn't have too much of a delay on it.
