Any suggestions on how to get an ink stain out of my husband's work shirt? A pen was unfortunately left in the pocket when it went into the washing machine.
The tide stain stick did not help at all. :sad2:

(The tag says it's a poly-cotten blend if that matters.)

Thanks in advance for any suggestions. :)

I spray hairspray on it, takes it right out

Thanks, I just tried that too and I'm not sure if it's working. I see ink on the paper towel, but it doesn't seem to be getting any lighter on the shirt...

It did end up going through the dryer...does that make the odds of getting it out slim to none?

Rubbing alcohol is a possible solution too. It might take some work if there is a lot of ink though.

Thanks, I will try that.
It's not a big glob or anything (that was IN the washing machine..thankfully the magic eraser took care of that! :thumbsup2), but four or five spots on the front.

Thanks for the help.

The hairspray has to be the pressurized kind, not the pump kind. What takes the ink out is the propellant.

Also rubbing alcohol.

If the shirt can be bleached, try a bleach pen, laying it on paper towels and blotting it from both sides, wash immediately, DO NOT DRY. Check first.

If you can chance it, try nail polish remover. If you used alcohol first, rinse it well and get all the alcohol out, then try the nail polish remover, but be careful...this stuff can damage the fabric.

Since the shirt has gone through the dryer, that will make it very difficult to get the stains out, they might be 'set'.

agnes!

Hairspray!

And You don't blot it! You spray the living daylights out of it, really soak it till the ink starts running and then throw it in the washer. (and the can stuff does work the best, cheap is great)

Hairspray. Aquanet if you can find it. :thumbsup2

I don't know if this works on pen ink but I once had an incident with red stamper (like a "Paid" stamp or a date-stamp - I work in accounting) ink. One of my coworkers told me to soak just that area of my shirt in milk - 1%, 2% or whole didn't matter - overnight and then wash it as usual. Well, I figured the shirt was ruined so what harm could it do to try this. White and green plaid shirt... bright red ink.... came out looking like new. :woohoo:

A gel ink pen went through the wash in a shirt pocket. A combination of pump hairspray and OxyClean with liquid Wisk got out all traces.

Thanks everybody! This is exactly what I did..except I did use the pump kind and just dumped it on there and scrubbed the heck out of it! (Couldn't really get any worse at that point. lol) I could see ink on the paper towel, but it didn't seem to be getting any better on the shirt, so I figured what the heck, I'll throw it in the washer again....

...and it came out with no ink! :goodvibes

Just wanted to share...I was very excited. :cool1:
