I took the DVC plunge in September and was wondering about the initial points. Our DVC rep said we would have 160 points which would need to be used during this coming year and could not be carried over and 160 points which could be carried over if we wished.

When I look on dvcmember.com, it shows 160 2009 use year points which can be banked but makes no mention of any points which cannot be banked. My use year is September. Am I missing 160 points or am I just confused over nothing. I tried calling the rep a couple of times but have not received a return phone call.

I'm thinking the additional 160 points are probably Developers Points. These are points owned by DVC in undeclared inventory, or points re-acquired by them through default/ROFR, etc. They are often used as a one-time use sales incentive. Usually Developers Points have restrictions, like they can only be used at SSR, for RCI or the Disney Collection. They will not show on your online account because you don't actually "own" them.

Not sure what your guide was referring to in terms of "extra points".

If you have a Sept UY, then you would have gotten 2009 points (that are bankable through April 30th, 2010).

Sometimes, they give developer points as an incentive but as far as I know those have not been offered since last winter.

I would wait to talk to your guide. Sometimes, when they are selling, they make it seem like you are getting extra points when in fact, you are getting current UY points (even though the UY has already begun).

Keep us posted.

Contact your guide and ask about the other 160 points he/she said you would have to use.

They weren't giving out developer points in Sept 2009, unless you bought in Sept 2008. Perhaps you got RCI points to use for an RCI vacation.

Time to call your Guide and/or read your contract. Any points that you received will be spelled out in your paper work.

When I got my points in Dec 2008, I recieved matching developer points as an incentive. These points were good until Oct 1, 2009 and only good at SSR or RCI exchange (and maybe Disney collection, not sure) . They did not show in dvcmember.com, but when I called member services and said that my guide had promised me these points, they assured me that my account in their files showed I had access to these developer points. I was able to use these points for 2 trips with no problem. However the reservations using these points also do not show on dvcmember.com.

So my recommendation is to call member services first.:flower3:

Wishing you magic. I think these developer points are a great incentive, given what it would cost to rent points. I would rather have points than a cruise as I'm not much for cruising.

When in doubt about our points, we always call MS. The online system cannot always show every detail. Do call MS to check. Good Luck.

As a follow up, I tried several different calls (member services, etc.). The explanation was that, if we bank 160 points to use in the fall but don't use them, they will expire during the next year. Apparently, my wife and I both misunderstood and thought we heard that we need to use 160 by this coming September.

There are no bonus points, welcome home points or Disney magic points - just the dish of ice cream at the end of the tour. So, in the words of Emily Litella "Never mind."

the initial polnts values used within one of the nonlinear solvers employed by gams are suggested by gams based on the problem formulation and the initial values provided. by default the initial value chosen for all variables is zero or the lower bound.
