Initial Points Questions

Appreciate your help.

1. If I bought WLV in August 2001 with an October Use year do I get 150 points in August and another 150 points in October 2001 for a total of 300 points to be used or banked between 10/1/01 and 9/30/02?

2. If I did Magical Beginings would I sell up to 75 of my points at $750 upfront (keeping 75 points in August) and receive another 150 points in October for a total of 225 points to be used or banked between 10/1/01 and 9/30/02?

3. Is it requisite to be onsite for MB and/or
buying in, or is it just more fun this way.

I believe you are correct.When we were down there, they indicated you could only do MB while you were there or within so many days of visit. From postings on this board, I think you don't have to go down there. Also they are registered in Illinois so you can purchase without a visit.Call DVC to verify anything about MB because it does change.

hi: you don't have to be on site to use the mb. i've used it twice via the home telephone. i didn't even get to meet my guide until our second trip down as members.

If you buy during August you will not get Oct as your use year. The use year that is usually being sold in any given month is one that is 4 to 5 months before the month of purchase and if you use Magical Beginnings as a new purchaser you won't be able to pick a month earlier than the one being offered. Thus if you assume you purchase in Aug 2001 and get a March use year, then you get the points from March 2001 and can either use them for a trip that ends before Feb 28, 2002 or bank them into the March 2002 to Feb 2003 use year (and if you do so you will have two sets of points to use during that use year). Under MB, Disney buys back 1/2 of the points at $10 per point from the allotment of points that would be issued as of March 2001 in the above example and applies the amount to your down payment. You can use MB even if you buy without going down and going through the presentation

Ok, I need to plan on purchasing 4-5 months prior to the use year that I want. Now, would I get 150 points at purchase and again 4-5 months later at use year or just 150 points at use year?

Bear in mind that your use year really has nothing to do with when you vacation. It only is a time marker of when you get your points for the use year. As long as you follow the banking and borrowing regulations, there is no need to worry about which use year you have. Points are taken from the use year your trip is in. Since you reserve at the 11 month window at your home resort, it does not matter what your use year is, only that you have the correct number of points for use in the season you are reserving. I just realized that was a confusing statement. Any way, take my word for it, ..doesn't matter.
