The electric companies around here have been trying to get mylar balloons banned for some time. They get caught in power lines and cause power outages.
I seem to recall an event......like a big sports event on tv, that had a balloon release that messed up transmission/power for a couple of mins.

I’ve never bought one for either of my kids on our various trips. I remember my first Visit as a kid in 1976 my parents bought a balloon for my younger sister’s carriage and tied it on there.

While I LOVE the way they look and love the ambiance they add to the park, I've never actually bought one nor did I ever get one as a child. When I was young I got very little in the way of souvenirs and there was no way my parents were wasting money on a balloon that would deflate in a day. Also I'm sure they didn't want to deal with carrying it around all day. As an adult with no kids I also don't want to carry it around, since I wouldn't have anything like a stroller to tie it to.

I really miss the old school Mickey balloons before they had the clear bubble around them (like in evilmommie's picture).

I LOVE Mickey balloons! I remember when they were just the colored balloon with ears, without being inside a clear “bubble”. Back then they were $5 each, and one day when I was exiting MK I bought six of them, and proudly carried my bouquet of blue Mickey balloons back to CR.

One thing about those older balloons, they didn’t hold their helium very well. I bought a balloon and tied it to the drawer pull on the nightstand at my resort so it wouldn’t get caught in the ceiling fan. In the middle of the night I awoke in a panic because something was touching my face. Turned on the light to find the balloon had lost most of its buoyancy and was hovering right over my head!

The balloons are too expensive these days. I did buy the balloon popcorn bucket and the balloon shaped throw pillow though.

My grown daughter always buys one every trip. (WDW) Always at MK on the way out of the park. Last trip she bought 1 for herself & 1 to bring home for her grandson. We didn't even get out of the park before one of them popped. I was holding both balloons, sitting on the bench with Roy & Minnie waiting on everyone to come out of the bathroom when it just decided to pop. They replaced it right then but the other one deflated overnight in the room. They did replace that one also. We always drive so we take them home, some last longer than others.
