Disboards brain trust, I just watched a youtube video where the creator who currently owns a resale contact spoke to a DVC guide about options for purchasing VDH. She learned from her guide that to start qualifying for membership extras, an initial 100pt direct purchase was required. Then an additional 50pt purchase would qualify for extras. If she were so purchase only 50pt now, those points would not count towards the 150 needed for extras. Has anyone else heard this?

I’m in the final step of my resale purchase (closed just waiting for account to be created) with no immediate plans to earn a blue card. But would like to know the require are for blue card, and if anyone else has heard of this change.

Current rules are that any configuration of 150 direct points qualifies. They could change those rules tomorrow or completely eliminated the Blue Card.

Buying 50 points at DL wouldn't qualify her with current rules, but neither would 100. Guides can be wrong. Youtubers telling second hand stories of guides can also be wrong.

Any points bought directly will qualify under the current rules.

If you own resale and add on direct now with 25 points and in three years you add 125 (if the rules are the same), you'll get the benefits.

I saw the same video. What she was told doesn’t make any sense.
It didn’t make a lot of sense to me either which is why I am wondering if anyone else has heard similar information from their guide. I’m hoping it was just a misinformed guide and, under current rules, any 150pts direct qualifies if someone is looking to be eligible for membership extras.

IMO It is very bad advice - Buying smaller direct contracts give you no real discounts. For example with the current promotion people are reporting ( selling back the "double points") they get 200 points at basically the same or less than 100 plus 50 later at the full rate.

I rented out the "double points" when I bought mine with out the promotion + took the Disney Visa $2500 offer for 250 points + the developer discounts and was able to buy the 250 direct RR points for apx. $4,000 more than buying resale at Poly. Now that AP have returned I will make that up in a few years even as a solo traveler.

I don’t know if there are any new changes, but I can confirm I have a 50 pt direct contract added to a separate 75 pt direct contract that qualified me to be eligible for benefits (this was before they changed it to 150 min requirement). I would think it would be very weird and complicated if they start making certain direct points not eligible. People add on and sell small contracts all the time and it would be a mess. I think someone got misinformed info.

The official word on the member website is "Effective June 3, 2021, to obtain a Disney Vacation Club Membership Card, Members must accumulate a total of at least 150 Vacation Points purchased directly from Disney Vacation Development, Inc." So as others have reported and experienced, @GoBills , that CM was misinformed or misunderstanding. Someone could certainly buy 50 points direct, then 50 more, then 50 more, to get to the 150 points required (currently) for Membership Extras.

My parents had 50 resale from Poly bought in 2021. In 2022 they bought 125 direct at VGF, and last week, they bought 25 points directly at Poly. They enjoyed last Friday in the DVC Member Lounge at Epcot, celebrating their "blue card"/"membership extras" status.

So, what @Sunnyore said still applies. Its cumulative direct points towards 150.

Just wanted to affirm I bought 75 VDH points today, had a preceding 50 RIV, 50 VGF directs. I didn't ask or mention anything about this previous report to the guide I called.

My membership has already converted to DVC-Y. Nothing in the contracts received via docu-sign altered the previous language about the way it works either, so I think someone has some badly misinterpreted information here.

Any VDH direct contract size contributes to your Blue card qualifying tally.
