ING Acct. for children

Can someone please help? I'm trying to set up a joint account for my 16 yr. old son. I list my own personal checking acct. and I've listed him as the primary acct. holder, but I can't get past the screen that wants the Drivers License # or State issued ID number. My son doesn't have a license. What am I doing wrong?

I dunno. But I was planning to set my daughter up an account here soon and I'd like to know too how to get past that part.

Possibly can just put Social in there.

Maybe I need to enter my child's savings account number from our bank? I'm listing my personal checking account and showing him as the primary acct. holder for this new ING account. I'm so confused, this is not as easy as it was to sign myself up!

Anyone who has opened a joint account for their minor child, please tell us what I'm doing wrong. Thanks!

I just opened an account with my father as primary and me secondary and I used my checking account (he is not on the checking account) so I don't think that is the problem. I opened by ds's account about a year ago and was able to do it, but I can't recall how I did it. He does not have a driver's license. Maybe you can call ing direct and they can help you.

I set up an account for my 2 year old last month with no problem, and I guarantee you that he doesn't have a driver's license yet! Did you try entering your own DL number?

I thought that you set up kids as the primary and yourself as the secondary and you just skip the driver's licence section (since they do not have one) and go on to the next section. Their computer will know why you left that area blank by seeing your child's birth date.

That's how I remember it. I also used the same checking for everyone.

Another good thing when opening accounts for your kids is you do not have to have their accounts verified as it's the same account as yours! But you do have to verify another adults, like your DHs.

That was exactly what I did when I opened my kids accounts. Just skip it. You shouldn't have any problems.

Another who just skipped it. The program will realize your child is too young for a DL#. If you haven't put yourself as a joint holder at that point, it will prompt you to do so. Hope that helps.

Ditto! And the account verification is really easy using the same account

I have been skipping the DL # information and it's not letting me go any further, saying information is missing. Could it be because my son is 16 yrs and they think he should have a DL? Son is listed as primary, me as secondary. I don't know what's wrong here but it's frustrating. Anyone else understand why I'm having a problem with this?

I'm trying to remember if I put the kids SS# in there. I think they did ask for it. Have you tried putting in the SS#?

I looked at our account numbers and it looks like the first 3 numbers are the first 3 numbers to our socials. It wouldn't hurt to give it a try.

I'm almost certain that you HAVE to have a SS # on there for your kids when signing up the accounts for tax reporting purposes.

I did put DS SS# in the spot for that. I'm going to try again today and see if I can get it to work. If I still have trouble, I'll try to set up an account for my 10 yr. old daughter and see if it goes through.

Well, I finally got the account to work. I had to enter my drivers' license information even though I listed my son as the primary and I'm secondary. Glad that's done with!
