Blue Star Flags

There was a great post on this board informing people what the Blue Star flag symbolizes. A few people were asking where to find them and what the rules are for displaying one.

According to the Department of Defense Regulations, family members authorized to display the flag include:

"Wife, husband, mother, father, stepmother, stepfather, parent through adoption, children, stepchildren, children through adoption, brothers, sisters, half brothers and half sisters of a member of the Aremd Forces of the United States.

There has been a letter written to U.S. Representatives to see if they can get grandparents added to the "official" list. There are many grandparents who are participating anyway.

The Service flag may be displayed in a window of the place of residence of persons who are members of teh immediate family of Service members serving in the Armed Forces of the United States during any period of war or hostilities in which the armed forces of the United States may be engaged, for the duration of such period of war or hostilities."

Hope this helps answer some questions.

Thank you for this information, Patty.

And God Bless your DS for his service.

You don't have to order the actual flag--my BIL printed us one on paper before he shipped out. I think he said it was from the VFW site, and of course I can't be sure now because he's in Kuwait! It has the red border with the blue star and says USA, and at the bottom says "family member in the military". We have it in the sidelight of our front door.

Hope the US government don't object to me displaying one for my DH in the Royal Navy !

I would hope not! We're allies!

Have spent a portion of the afternoon emailing with my college roommate/maid of honor/sister of my heart. Her DH is major in the Air Force and she heard from him for the first time in a month today. Simple message that he should be able to communicate more and more regularly "soon".

I sent her the link on ordering the flag/pin - believe it or not as a military wife all these years she wasn't aware of the option. Told we'd be displaying in our hearts if not visibly - she suggested we should just consider this another patriotic display and that anyone with someone they loved in the military should feel free to display!

Hmm...something to think about.

So display away TracyL!

I don't see why anyone would object, Tracey.

JTB, where did the veteran ones come from in your sig? I haven't seen a post with those until I saw yours. I'm going to add one to my sig in memory of my father.

Mr J Cricket very kindly made them upon my request. :) The bottom one has gold lettering beneath it because my father passed away from causes not related to the war. This link will tell you all about them.

Thanks, JTB. :) I didn't realize the significance of the color of the lettering.
