My DDs & I are planning a trip to Branson. We plan to do Silver Dollar City, a few shows, & maybe the outdoor drama. They saw a deal at Savannah House Hotel. Has anyone stayed there? Does anyone have any suggestions as to good deals that offer a package of room & shows?
We also will be driving from New Orleans & does anyone have suggestions for short side trips going through Arkansas?
Thanks so much

Hot Springs Arkansas is really a nice place. I am not sure of your route but you can look into it. If you can find a package deal in Branson that is your best bet. I will warn you that the main road through Branson is very crowded. Its easier to make rights out of streets than it is to make a left. We found that if you make a right and go to a light and turn around, making the left is much easier.
There is a Disney outlet store at the Tanger Outlets. So be sure to check that out. The Dixie Stampede is really nice. You get dinner and a show for one price. You can find discount tickets I believe online. Have fun and enjoy your time there.

We are headed there in one week from Hattiesburg, MS, just above you. :goodvibes We are staying in a condo but if you do a web search for cheap hotels, you will get a lot of hits. I found one really inexpensive site by doing that but don't remember the name of it. We have been there before and really liked the Showboat Branson Belle and Silver Dollar City. This time we are taking DD19 and doing Silver Dollar City, Dixie Stampede and the Liverpool Legends. I don't know what else. We plan to drive up after work next Friday so are not doing any stopovers. Vicksburg, MS or Little Rock, AR might be good places to stop. Harrison Hot Springs looks like it is a little out of the way. I don't know how far you want to deviate from your route. Eureka Springs is supposed to be a neat town from what I've heard. If you go to the Branson Visitor Center's web site, you will get a lot of "junk" in the mail advertising everything. Also, my husband found a web site with half price tickets. I will try to find the name of the website. He doesn't remember the exact name. We are staying at The Fall Creek Inn and Suites for one night. I will let you know when I get back what it is like. If you want me to check on anything for you, let me know.

We spend every other weekend in Branson.. our Rv stays there all the time:). We love the Branson Landing, it's a shopping area ( modern out door mall) that is on lake Taneycomo, in "Old town Branson"it's a cold lake that has dinner cruises and sight seeing cruises on it. There are upscale shopping full price stores there, and a few good restaurants. There are also 2 pretty nice Outlet Malls in Branson. The Branson Belle, is a neat Showboat that was built to tour Tablerock Lake. They have lunch and Dinner Cruises, and FUN fun shows. You can get a discount if you buy Silver Dollar City tickets and Belle Tickets together.

There is also Dolly Parton's Dixie Stampede Dinner Thearter.. it's a good meal and good show. Don't miss the Ride the Ducks tours.. they are on the 76 strip and in Old town. Each ride should be different. A free activity is to tour the Trout Fishery, that is located near the Tablerock Dam, that separates Tablerock Lake and Lake Taneycomo. There is an IMAX theater, and another movie theater, Loads of shows. Shepard of the Hills is fun...

Another day trip would be Eureka Springs, Arkansas... its a really intersesting small town that has lots of springs... (really) and albino squirrells... (uh huh) sorta artsy, strange architecture due to the hills and intersting shops and restaurants. We love to go and have lunch.

Don't forget to see the local caves.. they are an attraction too, There is one at Silver Dollar City and Talking Rocks Cavern is near Kimberling City a bit west..

I don't know much about the Savannah Inn.... in fact, I don't think I have heard of it.. so that may be a good thing. :hippie:

Adding that there are "alternate routes" with color names.. red, blue and yellow my best advice is to get a map and name someone the navigtor... have them study the map. if you use the alternate routes, you will be able to just about miss most of the traffic. It is pretty bad on the main drag.. the strip, but that is where most shows, restuarants and shops are.. more advice.. get to Silverdollar city early.. or you will sit in traffic there too.

We usually go to Branson a couple times a year and stay in a condo off of table rock lake. Since there is an abundance of condos, we don't pay very much a night for what we get. Definitely make sure you get to SDC early, or you'll wait in traffic to get into the parking lots.

Our favorite show there is "Six." It is a group of brothers who sing completely acapella, and they are AMAZING! We see them every time we go, and the tickets aren't too pricey, especially with AAA discount or coupons from brochures. Our favorite place to eat is Fall Creek Steak & Catfish House (http://www.bransonsbestrestaurant.com/) There are usually coupons for a free app in brochures.

Thanks everyone for the great advice. We've been looking at the various websites & the evaluations for the hotels. We probably want to stay closer to Silver Dollar City. Does anyone know of a clean hotel in that area? Has anyone ever stayed at the Welk Resort? The water park sounds nice.

Deer Run Motel is literally the closest you can get to SDC. http://www.bransondeerrun.com/default.aspx
We always stay in Indian Point, away from the hustle and bustle of the strip and pass this motel on the way to the park. It looks nice enough from the outside, and it always looks like they have lots of guests.

We always like staying outside of the main branson area, especially since we go to SDC. We never run into traffic problems really, except for the branson strip in the evenings.

You will probably be better staying in town rather than SDC if you are only visiting once. There is a lot more restaurant variety in town. It's not the craziness of Disney (generally). We like the Presley's show and my kids like the Dixie Stampede. There is a restaurant called Chester's and one called Dana's that I would recommend. I love Branson. The Branson Landing is a fun place to visit and eat a meal as well. My favorite forum for Branson questions is on 1branson.com

Have a great time!

My DH and I stayed at Savannah House in October and we would definetly stay there again. Clean rooms and what I considered to be a great location- off the main route but still easy access to everything.

Arkansas has lots of great State Parks, many of them with cabins you can rent and some have full service lodges. I'm not sure what route you will take, but if you are going via I-30 you can stop and dig for diamonds at Crater of Diamonds State Park. Check out the Arkansas State Parks web site to see if any are on the route your are taking.

Thanks everyone, we called Deer Run because their website looked nice. The only room they have our week is on the 3rd floor without an elevator. I'm not sure if my legs would be ok with that after a long day. I'm going to call Savannah House & see what availability they have.
