Info re: renewing your AP up to 30 days after expiration.

Our Premium AP expired on 12/23 and before they did I stopped by the Guest Services booth (outside, by the ticket windows) and asked the CM there that if I renewed our AP in Feb. would our AP be backdated to 12/23? The CM looked at me like I was speaking a foreign language and asked her lead to come over.

I reasked my question and she said "....No, we don't back date them that far." (she knew exactly what I was asking, unlike the other CM BTW) Hmm, emphasis on NOT THAT FAR. Next question, "How far will you back date them?" Her answer "30 days, but you won't get your $10 discount." (Yes, she should have said $20) Really, only $20 on a premium, what a loss! (I'm not getting a Premium again anyway. DD's schedule allows us to get one of the SoCal ones this next year. )

So as long as I don't renew them before Jan. 22nd, I won't be charged for 12 months and only receive 11 months of entries. I really think this policy is unfair but I'm glad I asked the question. To me, a $20 savings is not enough of an incentive for me to renew without a gap. Obviously I want 12 months of AP for 12 months of payments.

A few years ago I took an online survey about renewing AP and they had many different possible ideas on how to get APH to renew without a gap. The $20 discount was my least favored option. I thought more food discount or special AP parking was a better option but I guess they didn't listen. If an AP is $500 then $20, 4%) is almost a slap in the face.

Thought those of you who will be renewing soon would be interested. Don't look for us around DL until February.

WDW APs are renewals within 30 days of expiration too, but they still get the renewal discount.

I think your ticket booth CM was not clear of the policy or you confused him/her with your questions.

It's $20 off to renew before expiration.


If your AP expires and you need another one. Make it clear, you don't want to renew, you want a NEW AP. A new AP has a new anniversary date, and that's what you want. You don't want an AP with the old anniversary date.

Actually I didn't ask about the renewal discount since I knew I wasn't going to get it. I was pretty sure it was $20 too but she volunteered the $10. I didn't question it as I didn't plan on getting it. I too believe she was mistaken.

And then you'd pay for and get a full 12 months?

Sorry about the confusion. I have read several reports on these boards that if you renew your AP after the expiration date that they are backdating them to your original date. I wanted to clear that up since I didn't intend to renew mine for about a month and a half. The CM verified to me that if you renew within 30 days of your original expiration that they do backdate them which means you may only have 11 months to use instead of the 12 you pay for. I just wanted to let people know what I was told as I don't want to renew my AP and get less than the 12 months I pay for.

And yes, the CM told me $10 discount when she should have said $20. Even $20 wouldn't get me to renew (or get a new one) before I need it.

Make sense? Basically I wanted to let people know that I was told if you renew within 30 days of your AP expiring, you will lose up to 30 days of admittance. Personally I think this is a (*$#@) policy on Disney's part. Doesn't it already cost enough to go to DLR? I would assume if you ask to get a new AP you'll get the 12 months you pay for.

We're not feeling well here either. Both my DM and DD got the gift of naseau (sp?) for Christmas day. Hope you feel better.

Actually, if you want to renew after the expiration date, then you have to do it within 30 days. But you do not HAVE to renew. Within those 30 days you can simply get a new pass and you will get the full 12 months. If you aren' t getting a discount, then there is no advantage to renewing versus getting a new pass.

My son's AP expired Dec 13th. Yesterday, he went to the park and he paid for his pass, and the expiration date is the 27th.

Yeah, I would be upset if I said that I wanted to "renew" my pass that had expired in the past instead of getting a "new AP'. I waited almost two months past my AP expiration date before renewal this year and the thus my expiration date was 12 months out. Since there are no AP "discounts" for renewing a Premier pass it was just a matter of timing.

We renewed my daughter's AP, and it had already expired. The CM asked us if we wanted to keep the original date and get the $20 off, or use the date we were getting the pass as a new date. (i.e., instead of Dec 10, have the date as Dec 20) We opted to get the $20 off and use the 12/10 date instead of 12/20.

Same here. But I think it also makes sense (and I'm not saying that you're saying anything different, Mary Jo, just using your post as a springboard) that Disney gets to say "then it isn't a renewal, give me the full cost".


If I were getting another AP after the exact expiration date, and I have done this before, I'd just buy it online at full price, then go on as though it were a new one. I wouldn't even try to confuse myself by calling it a renewal, when it wouldn't be, it would be a brand new AP. (when we did it before, it was a brand new AP but they still had our info, so it was easy to put it onto the new pass, including our picture back when you went into the center to have it taken)

Good to know they asked you your choice. That makes total sense. If I was renewing it after just a few day gap then I too would go for the $20 discount.

The main reason I asked the question (and posted this thread) was to find out how many days back they would back date your AP. I believe I read at least one post that someone wasn't told about the backdating and their AP was automatically backdated to their original date.

Sorry it's so confusing-I just wanted to let those who will be letting your AP lapse that if it's within 30 days of your exp. date your AP can be backdated to your original date so if you don't want it to be, make sure you let the CM know.

The DVC member discount is also $20, which cannot be combined with the renewal discount. Eliminating any incentive for DVC members to renew.

If you are not going to use the AP's right away, let it expire and purchase new ones.

They will then start on the day you first go.....
