I'm not sure if this is the best place to post this, but out of all the choices, it seemed the best fit.

I was hoping to get some more info on Voices of Liberty. I'm auditioning for them and haven't actually seen them perform for a really long time. I want to do some research before I go into the audition. What specific style of singing do they do? Legit Musical Theatre style, or maybe a bit more leaning toward classical? Do they do more of a straight-tone style of singing, or is some vibrato okay? I'm just trying to plan my audition piece and singing style (I do everything from opera to jazz to musical theatre) to the tastes of what is used in the group.

Thanks in advance for any info people can share! :flower3:

They have recorded many CD's.

They can not use the name "Voices of Liberty" except at Disney.

Go to iTunes and search for "Liberty Voices." There is a Christmas CD there by the group. You can sample the cuts for free or download cuts for 99 cents each.

You may find some CD's on Amazon or other sites.
"Derrick Johnson" (the director) is also a name to Google.

Here are some good YouTube video that really demo what you need to know-

And you'll find many more there.

The Voices of Liberty are, in a word, SPECTACULAR!

Good luck with your audition, we listened to them 3 times on our last trip. I did feel they tended towards a more straight tone, especially the soprano. Since I heard quite a bit of scooping, I wouldn't say that they sing a more classically oriented style, I felt it was a bit more pop. I wouldn't be afraid to audition with some vibrato included, just don't be too heavy with it. I felt they had a light tone, and the harmonies were wonderful. I wish they were close enough to me so I could audition too. I hope I'm hearing you by my next visit in 2009.

While you definitely want to showcase your voice, don't forget that they are all about the blend. I would also suggest brushing up on your sight singing skills as I seem to recall hearing that it is a fairly important part of their audition process.

Best of luck to you - if you make it you'll be working with some really wonderful people - on both a professional and personal level.

Thanks to everyone for all the helpful info so far.

I was lucky enough to notice that they're having the OPEN call in NYC this next Monday. Disney has FL auditions quite regularly, but that's a bit too far to go from eastern PA! And so far I've let my Disney vacations be just that - vacation - I haven't brought my audition book at all (although, I admit I have been tempted!)

I guess I'll just have to wait and see about that sight-reading. I'm not horrible, but I'll be honest - it was my worst class back in college!

Thanks again!

Hi everyone! I'm brand new to Disboards, so I don't know if I'm posting this in the right place.... BUT....

I'm auditioning for the Voices of Liberty (Candlelight cast) in a few days, and I wondered if anyone had any tips from past experience? Specifically... what to wear to the auditions? I've been told to go dressy, but all of the info I can find from Disney says causal is best. Any suggestions would be great!

Thanks!

Good luck to both of you! I have no info to impart, but I think it's terrific that you're auditioning. DS21, who is a professional musician, LOVES Voices of LIberty. When he and I were there on a mother-son trip last October, he was thrilled to have the chance to talk with Aaron (the tall bass) for about 15 minutes after the show. He was very nice and encouraging of my DS to audition for Disney music positions. And when we saw them in March it looked like two of the women were VERY pregnant. Not a surprise that they're holding auditions.

JenSop's audition was over 5 years ago! Maybe she'll come back and let us know how it went. :earsboy:

Wear something comfortable, conservative, and not too busy pattern-wise. In general, let's say you were invited to sing the Star Spangled Banner at the start of a home town founders day ceremony. Whatever you'd wear for that, wear for this.

They don't want to see you in a long sparkly dress or in a red / white / blue suit or dressed to the nines. They want to see you casually dressed, approchable, conservative, Disney-like. That goes for hair and make-up too. This is not the time to experiment with that wacky asymmetrical cut or the rainbow colored nail polish. You need to look the part.

Good Luck!
