We are flying my dd up for her 5th and my 35th bday in disney.4/1 1st airplane ride for her, big surprise!. Staying at PC another first. Also have surprise PS for cinderella royal feast that evening . Even bought her new surprise cinderella costume for the dinner. We plan on telling her before we go to airport. And plan on leaving wrapped presents in room as though from Mickey,Cindy etc...

She is my princess and really deserves treat. She is just getting over a bad asthma episode (almost hospital but knock on wood not this time) and we really want everything to be special and prfect. So it looks like mk on that b-day just to be convenient for dinner.

Question: besides the b-day pins what can I do to make it more birthday like if you understand me? How do families get picked for the parade and to open the park and/or ANything out of the ordinary special? Also in Epcot anything? Last question thinking of going back for longer trip June 3-8. How are crowds then? Thanks

I have read several reports of those being the first at the MK gates...she would have a chance of being chosen to open the MK. I definately wouldn't share that with her incase it didn't work out. Dress her up really cute...and be chummy with CM's. Good Luck!!!

our best moments were completely unplanned and unexpected :)

You can go to City Hall after you get in and ask them to speak with Goofy as it is your DD's bday....they have a tape of Goofy wishing the Bday person Happy Birthday....DH did this for me and it was very unexpected and fun...

Cute and chatty has always worked for us at opening of MK to be the first family...

When you go to MK go directly to Tinkerbells Treasures, a gift shop near the Castle. Ask if Tinkerbells awake yet. If not, ask if you can wake her up. They will give you the magic wand to wake her up. Neat photo op. They will give you a certificate stating that you woke Tinkerbell up at that day. Shes only woken up once a day, so try to do it asap.

We were picked to be Grand Marshalls of the afternoon parade because we looked like we were having the best time of our lives. No act, we were! My b-day, the Dapper Dans, MK, too fun!
Just be ready for magic. Sometimes you can make it happen, sometimes it happens to you. That whole day was very magical for my sister, brother and myself. 3 adults, chosen for the parade. Who'd a thunk!

You can get the Goofy birthday call from your hotel room as well. We did that and while we were gone, we had the hotel send up balloons and a birthday card from Cinderella. Just ask at the front desk - and the best part is, it's free!

If you really want to do something big - call Jane with Gifts of a Lifetime and have her set up an event for you (surprises in the parks, etc... or perhaps your hotel room decorated for you). It is expensive though.

As far as being the one family picked out of literally thousands - I'd suggest that you just concentrate on having a good time and not stressing out over trying to make it perfect. When we plan too much (i'm guilty of this) we find ourselves rushing from one thing to the next instead of taking in the sites, details, beautiful music and atmosphere of the parks/resorts themselves. Going at a slower pace and taking the time to point out these special details will be a treat in itself.

Also remember, she's only 5 and Disney all by itself will be a hugh treat to her (sometimes the excitement and bombardment of stimulation is even too much for some children as it is - on our first trip our 5 and 8 year olds fell asleep in their plates at the Mickey Dinner at the Contemporary - they couldn't have cared less about another character or fireworks, etc.... I suppose there is sometimes too much of a good thing.)

Thanks for all the great ideas guys. Puffy2 it isn't really me trying to do to much or worring about anything. In fact I am not stressed at all about it. I completely agree that with kids that age you take it easy and just enjoy. we just go so much to DW (fla resident pass 4-5 times a year that I was looking for something different for my DD birthday to add to the trip. (not that a trip to disney isn't the best no matter how many times we've gone. :D ) Thanks for your suggestions again. 20 more days !!! yea!
