Info on credit card hold at HRH

Just thought I'd pass this info along. I just spoke with a very friendly person in guest services regarding the hold they put on your credit card when checking in. I had read some posts on this board before about a $600 hold being put on your for incidentals and problems with getting the hold released. Since I use a debit card this concerned me. The staff member informed me that the computer automatically puts a hold on your credit card of $300 per day (I am staying 5 nights!!!) but you can have the dollar amount changed or if your hotel room is prepaid you don't have to do this at all (which mine is). You just have to specify this during your check-in. I had planned on using travelors checks anyway to keep a better tab on our spending rather than charging with room key. Is that what they do in WDW hotels, too? I just remember them saying that we had up to $1500 charging privleges, but I didn't realize that it was an actual "hold" they put on the account. Also, the "hold" isn't really charged to your credit card unless you use it, right?

It is not "charged" to your card but as long as the hold is on your card you can not use that amount of money (until HRH lifts the hold.)

For example

Your line of credit is $1,000
HRH puts a hold of $300 on your card.

Until the hold is lifted you only have $700 to use on your card. If you try to charge something for $701 or more the charge will likely be denied.

You may want to check with your credit card company to be sure. I would hate to go to Orlando with the idea of using a credit card for certain purchases and then having a hold placed on my card.

We just returned from a really fun weekend at the Hard Rock...love that hotel!

I had booked my room thru hotel discounts and so it was prepaid when we arrived. If you have that situation of already being prepaid, simply don't give them a credit card at check-in. Go on a 'cash only' basis

Then just pull out your debit card (instead of room key) to make a charge when you want to use it.
That way, you don't need to worry about any holds against the card, etc.
