My husband and I are going in April for our 20th anniversary.

Definitely on a budget though, can't afford Bellagio, etc. Need to stay under $100 a night. 4 nights, Sat-Wed. Want a great location since this is our first trip to LV.
We can get Bally's for about $65/night average.

What can you tell me about Ballys? Good and bad please.

I am open to other suggestions. Also, considered Trump (non-smoking and no casino are pluses to me since we won't be gambling). But it might be too far and is it worth the price diff. It is about $100/night for our dates.

THANK YOU SO MUCH!
Pam

It is where we stay most often.
Forget Trump. It isn't conveninetly located, and definitely not worth the extra. I go to Vegas a couple of times a year and frequent forums with trip reports & not once have I heard someone stay there!
Ballys has a perfect location, huge and the price is always right.
The South tower rooms have dated furnishings but great strip views.
The North tower has been renovated and typically have mountain views.
If a strip view is important stick w/ south (probably south at your price). If a nicer room is important, go north.
If you want north, inquire if there is north tower availability when you check in. If there is, they will nearly always upgrade you for free (or maybe $10/nt)Ballys location is great as you are dead center in the strip, so you can wander north one day, south another, and avoid taxis.
Have a great time!
(trip advisor Las Vegas forums are a tremendous source of info)

We stayed at Ballys last time we were in Las Vegas and it was fine. We had an upper floor south tower with an awesome view of the Bellagio fountains. The furnishings in the room were older but the room was clean. Ballys connects to Paris through the shops and shares the same parking garage. Like others have said you can walk to many places from Ballys.

If you play at any harrahs properties in your area, even just a little, check the website. You may have a comped room available that you don't even know about. We are going to Las Vegas in May this year and staying at the Rio this time to try somewhere different. I have 4 out of 5 nights comped (only $70 for the fifth) and if we were to stay at Ballys I could have all 5 comped.

Have a great time wherever you choose.

Bally's is in a great location. We were in Vegas for a wedding a couple of years ago, and my in-laws stayed there. We went over and visited them in the room and the rooms were fine. I love that it is attached to the Paris.

Good:

Jubilee!

Monorail
Less good (not NEARLY the same as "bad")
Lack of theming
Monorail and pool are a fairly long walk from the rooms
Timeshare people if you come in the front entrance as a couple

LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION (and typically free rooms...) is why we almost always stay at Ballys!!!

Funny thing - I generally stay off the Strip! Either Main Street Station or The Orleans :)

I always rent a car because I'll be spending time with Las Vegas residents (so the buses are inconvenient and taxies would get expensive) anyway - so I'm perfectly fine at a Boyd property :teeth:

First of all, the strip is certainly the starting point for sightseeing...
Second, we don't know if OP gamble or drink...SO...off strip is really for those who love gambling (better odds) and if one does drink in Vegas (as SO many of us do...), driving isn't advised...;)

As has been said before, the location of Ballys is wonderful, giving you easy access via walkway bridges to Ceaser's Palace and the Bellagio. It's right on the center of the strip, so it's easy walking distance to most anything from the Fashion Show Mall area going one way, and the MGM Grand area going the other.

Here's a couple room pictures from my stay in 2008:

Another thing my Dad and I enjoyed while there is that the lounge in the casino usually has a band that performs old school R&B covers, and frequently quite well.

If you're looking for a breakfast buffet that balances price with decent food quality, you're also in for a treat, for just off the strip near Ballys is the Westin, which has a great buffet that we did twice on that trip. If you like bacon, they have an excellent applewood smoked variety.

Hope this helps!

I've stayed at the Trump Las Vegas. It is an absolutely beautiful hotel and luxurious. The rooms are gorgeous, with marble, a mini kitchen with high-end appliances. The bed was comfy and the linens/towels were luxurious. The lobby smells fabulous (they pump in some fragrance). No casino so you don't have to weave through crowds to get to the elevators to get to your room. Also no smoking which is great for me as my asthma gets aggravated by smoke smell. There are many reviews of this hotel on Tripadvisor.com (my review is in there in January 2010 under the username RichmondCA).

It is off the strip, across the street from the Fashion Mall. Yes, the minuses about this hotel is that it's on the north end and off the strip. (It's a 2-minute walk to the Wynn to give you an idea of its location.) Yes we walked A LOT to get to places like the Bellagio, City Centre, etc. (a minus), but then we never gained any weight eating at all the buffets due to the walking (definitely a plus!).
We got this hotel for $100 a night + $15 daily resort fee (another minus). But we feel we got our money's worth and we absolutely loved this place.

We'd stay here again in August when we return to LV.
