Can someone tell me more about Curves? We have one in town, but I know very little about it. Curtains completely cover the windows so you can't see inside, so I'm just wondering what it's all about. I know it's for women, but do they have exercise machines? Nutrition programs? Work-out sessions you sign up for like step aerobics, etc.? What is the cost? Do you pay monthly or for a full year or what? Anything you can tell me will be helpful, thanks! If any of you belong to one, tell me what it's like inside. Are all the women who go "in shape" or are there all shapes and sizes? I've recently lost 40 pounds and I'd like to lose 20 more but have hit a standstill (for months now!) so I'm thinking about joining for the winter months.

Hi, I am a new member to Curves. You can call for an appointment to look at what goes on inside to see if it would benefit you without an expense to you.

It has all different kinds of equipment that you rotate around (in my cycle has 12 machines) so we go around 2xs. The women that go are all different sizes and from all walks of life.

Young girls and older women too. I joined last month when they were running a 2 for 1 joining fee. So I got my membership 1/2 price but pay 29.00 per month.

I feel I have benefited from it already. I get measureed tomorrow to find out for sure though. Hopefully! Let me know if you have any other questions.

Chatty -

I'm not a member of Curves, but my mom is, and I see people talking about it all the time on the weightwatchers.com message boards, so I thought I'd share what I know...

Curves isn't just all skinny women. Women of all shapes, sizes, and abilities join. Curves is a circuit program that combines weight machines with cardio in a 30 minute session. There's music that's playing and there is a cue in the music when to switch stations. You get an entire cardio and strength training workout in 30 minutes. I believe there is also a nutritional part to the program and you get measured/weighed every few weeks or so, but I'm not sure about that. The cost probably varies from city to city, but it's probably comparable to monthly fees at "regular" gyms. You don't have the range of equipment and classes that you would get at a regular gym, but if you're someone who's just starting out on your fitness journey and are intimidated by gyms, that's probably not a bad thing.

I've heard really great things about Curves. Why not stop in and ask for a "tour"?

Good Luck!!

There are lots of women who belong to Curves over on the WISH board - you may want to come on over and ask your questions there.

It is a routine of mostly toning beds which only last for so long.

People who are generally in shape already and just need to lose 5-10 lbs don't really find it useful.

It is mostly for people who are 20 or more lbs over weight. It is good for reduction of dimples and cellullite but if you don't have that problem I don't reccomend going there.

It is much too low impact for people like me who have been working out for over ten years.

See if you can get a week pass to try it out.

DoeWDW: Duh!! Why didn't I think of that?! :scratchin

I have been a WISH member for several months, but rarely go over to the board anymore since I haven't lost any more weight (I feel too guilty I guess!) but that's a good suggestion, thanks!

I joined Curves 2 months ago & in that time I have lost 20 lbs & over 12 inches. I've "moderately" followed the WW program on my own at home. This program was excellent for me since the only exercise I got was raising the fork to my mouth. There are people of all ages & mostly on the larger side (at the Curves I attend) but there are women who look physically fit attending also & for the life of me, I can't figure out if they are benefiting from this program at all. If you've been exercising, then I wouldn't recommend it for you but if you're just getting into an exercise program ~ this is the BEST one you'll find & everyone is so very supportive. I soooo enjoy going & it keeps me motivated to go as often as I can. The "leaders" do encourage you to go at least 3 times per week for any benefit. I try to go 4 to 5 times.

You may go & ask them questions & they will let you try their equipment out in case you're worried if you can do the exercises or not (like I was.)

My fee was (I think) $75 to join & I pay $29 monthly. It's a one year contract but you can pay monthly. I know I'll be going for a while. :)

I was a member at Curves for a few months.

I agree the above posters. If you are someone that is looking to lose 5-15 lbs it probally wouldn't do much for you. I didn't feel like I physically benefited from it much. However, the atmostphere is awesome. If you are at all questioning joining a gym for how you will feel being there, this is the place to go. All the women were really nice and supportive.... that I loved about it!!

Good Luck and let us know if you join!!
