Inflatable Lawn Decorations

Warning the TF is watching this tread. Thanks TF!

So I drove home from class tonight and counted 31 flaccid inflatables on my 5mile drive.

well I DID like them, until every single house in the neighborhood decided to now has at LEAST 1 of them.. :earseek:

i love those inflatables!..i have 7 of them...one is a polar bear on the top of my shed and the rest are on my front yard, ive posted some pictures of them in the decorations thread. I love them :goodvibes

I like them, husband hates them. But MIL is bringing one up for us that a friend gave her for us. THe bad thing is we live in So Cal where we get bad santa ana winds so they blow over alot.

LOL- I like them if they are not overflowing the yard.

I collect Rankin/Bass related items and that is what is in our yard - I have two inflatables: Santa with Rudolph and Burl Ives Sam the Snowman - they look great with my Rudolph wooden yard art which includes: Rudolph, Clarice, Sam, Santa, Hermey, Yukon, Bumbles, misfit toys and elves. I am looking at adding the Santa with Rudolph pulling a sleigh of misfit toys inflatable - LOL I hope to get some more wooden yard art each year of different R/B specials - Snowmiser and HeatMiser , Winter Warlock, Kris and Jessica and BurgerMister, Jack Frost, Little Drummer Boy and so on. I might have to get a Rankin/Bass Logo in the yard. I have a pretty big yard so I guess it would work.

We have gotten lots of compliments on the Rudolph theme this year. The kids love it!!

heres some pics of my inflatables :)

:earboy2: .... boy would my DS5 love it at your house!!!!!! He loves those inflatable things....
we don't have a house, so inflatables are out of the question, but we did get him a small snowglobe thing that is just like the huge ones (with the snow blowing out) for about $20, and he is happy with that!

We like our inflatable Frosty very much. I always think that the people who don't like the inflatables are also the type who think colored lights on the house are tacky and their Christmas trees are color coordinated and themed.

I LOVE colored lights on the house, and my tree is a mix match of all different fun ornaments and I STILL think the inflatables look tacky and obtrusive. JMO! :teeth:

I love them... some I dont like as much.. but I think they're cute.. We have a Frosty the Snowman and a penguin in the front yard.. They are pretty spaced out.. I have another snowman, but 3 is too many.. :teeth: so he didnt get put up this year.. just the other 2.. What drives me crazy is the people who hang one strand of lights-- and no Im not kidding.. I saw 2 houses in my neighborhood in the last few nights that have one strand hanging on a bush!! Im hoping they decide to put up a few more lights than that..

Maybe the TF is actually inflatable? Oh wait, I wouldn't want to be accused of saying the TF is "full of hot air"... that just wouldn't be right.

It sounds like alot of you would hate us then! :teeth:

No, I don't think so... the OP's question was:

Anybody else really dislike the large inflatable lawn Christmas decorations?
So don't worry... we might still like you:teeth: .

While we're on the subject of what we don't like about Christmas decorations, I think my biggest pet peeve is when people put up lights that half the string doesn't work... if its not working, shut them all off til you figure out what's wrong with them!!! Our subdivision gate was finally decorated yesterday, and half the lights on the stone wall don't light up... just looks terrible. And they are trying to sell half-million dollar homes when they can't even get the Christmas lights right???

I love them too. Here is mine with my DB & DN

I got a tag from this thread!!! Thanks TF! :wizard:

You never know which line the TF will ride... but now that I see this one up and out of context, it's pretty funny :rotfl:

That's a lot of limpness. :earseek:

Wonder if the neighbors got fed up with the overload and attemped to take care of things.

The main reason I don't like inflatables is that it always used to be that Christmas lights were so magical looking, especially when driving through the countryside at night, hundreds of tiny lights bedazzling homes all over with a warm glow.

What do I see on the rolling hills during my night time drives NOW? Ginormous, gawdy characters, one after another after another, stuck on lawns, porches, rooftops, wherever they can possibly be installed.

It gets pretty old, too, to keep seeing the same ones over and over and over again. Do some people not realize that there are already 3 polar bears, 4 grinches, and 5 santas on that street already? Do we really need to have a 6th santa? The novelty has worn off, and now it's just annoying, and detracts from the look of the Christmas lights.

Some people have commented that people shouldn't be judged for their taste in decorations. I don't think anyone is judging anyone, just giving opinions on what type of decorations we like and don't like. I'm sure the owners of these decorations are very nice people!

One comment to the person who said that at least it's not trash or junk in their yards, I beg to differ; It looks a heck of a lot like trash during the day when you see pile upon pile of the deflated fabric littering what could've been a beautiful, snow-covered neighborhood.

Okay, rant over. For now at least!

So its time to dress Mr. Inflatable Snowman in blaze orange and a Bass Pro Shop hat, and set him out on the porch with his gun...

Funny you should say this. . .

When we moved into our house about 15 years ago over Thanksgiving, our neighbors informed us that we would need to decorate to keep up with our subdivision's appearance of Christmas splendor. Fast forward a few years, and our block is called "Deer Lane" complete with cute wooden signs. I was in night school at the time and worked during the day, so I didn't have a lot of time to decorate. Then, I got an inspiration! Deer season opens around the holidays, so I got an old box and painted it to look like a deer blind. (camoflauge colors of green & brown). I got a wooden deer and put it on the ground next to a plant basket (to look like a deer feeder). I put Santa in the blind with a candy cane "gun." I had a hand-painted sign (by my daughter) that said "Deer Season Open!"

A few neighbors came by and laughed hysterically - they loved it. Needless to say, I haven't had any more comments about needing to decorate for the holidays.

There has been a real downturn in the last few years on decorating - I don't know if it's too costly or what. My daughter now decorates our yard with spiral trees, lights in the bushes, trees and lining the house & door, and oh yeah -- a blow-up Santa - big guy too - waving so you can see him from the end of the block!

I can't say they are my favorites, but my kids LOVE them. So we bought the snowman family ( father, mother, child, and baby) and every time we come home from being out they talk about them. Christmas is all about our kids here and if they are happy we are happy!
