Anybody else really dislike the large inflatable lawn Christmas decorations?

I remember seeing some in my neighborhood last year and thinking how tacky they looked. I remember thinking how great it was that only a couple houses had them.

Now this year the number has went up to at least 10!

Why are these things so popular? They remind me of the kind of thing you see in movies as funny examples of decorating gone wrong. :confused3

....and this year we have snowglobes that snow inside of them and big red chimneys that Santa pops in and out of!!

At least they aren't as bad as the Santa landing lights that I saw at Target....

the absolute truth is ... :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

i don't care - some are fun, others are over the top. then again we're lights on the house kind of people.

I don't like them either. Our next door neighbors have one. A giant snowman. The rest of their decorations are nice and then they have this stupid snowman. And during the day, the thing just lies in a lifeless pile on the ground.

Um, yeah, not a fan of them.

I think they're popular because they are cheap and easy (boy, that came out wrong!). Foolproof holiday decor!

ok - I saw the snowglobe for the first time in October in my local grocery store.

Now I see 4 on my commute home.

I'm not a fan of any blown up yard decorations. I'm sure it's "for the kids"...but I prefer the "classic" decorations. (slap a wreath on the door with a bow and put candles in the windows. Done)

I hate them, DH loves them and WANTS one! How do I talk him out of it? Thank goodness, this year we have no money so I'm off the hook for the next 12 months.

Actually, our neighbor had a giant turkey out on their lawn for November (in honor of Thanksgiving). A few times the neck didn't inflate so it looked like the turkey had a broken neck, very appropriate considering the holiday! Now THAT was funny!

I thought the snowglobe was cool. That was before everyone bought one.
I'm really not a fan of the inflatables. Especially considering the people with big yards never get one. Instead it's this tiny postage stamp front yard with a giant inflatable something that takes up the whole yard.

A woman around the block decorates year round for various holidays- every month there's something different, and yes she has an inflatable for every occasion.

I hate them. :badpc:

And the worst is when you see them in a place that snows a lot. The blowup snowglobes get so covered with snow you can't even see half of what's inside it!!! :rotfl:

I do have a secret squeel of joy everytime I see one of them deflated on the ground though.

There is this one Gigantic frosty one that I think is cute other then that I hate them I thing they look ugly IMHO, as far as the globes go I think they would be cool in warm climates but I think they look ridicules in the areas where snow is a natural occurring phenomenon.

Our neighbor has several and dd thinks they are fabulous and keeps nagging me to get one. I don't think so.

It was pretty funny yesterday, though. We got some snow and when I looked over at the inflatables--it was doubled over in the snow. It looked like someone had chopped the Christmas tree down and it fell on Santa!

We keep our Santa inflated in the backyard all day and night, I hate how it looks deflated.

I think some of them look really cute. There are lots of different styles - some with Mickey, some with Pooh, others are more "traditional".

But I agree that they need "space".

I admit, we have a Pooh one. However, I didn't buy it---a Christmas elf (aka my dad) dropped it off on the porch last year. We're not big on decorating the exterior of the house, so maybe if we put Pooh outside, my dad will quit nagging us about not putting lights on the house. :rotfl:

They look even more ridiculous here in the South where we're still raking leaves every weekend.

I have to agree with you. Personally I like more of the understated holiday decorations than a 7 foot blow up Santa. I thought it was really funny seeing the blow up 7 foot high turkeys at Thanksgiving.

We have a few of them in our neighborhood. Only one looks good, but I think it's because the other decorations truly complement it. Together they create a story. The other inflatables are pretty bad.

Our next door neighbor has the BEST decorations this year--no inflatables! They created a forest scene with a waterfall and pool--all with white lights. It's very pretty. I wish I'd thought of it!

HATE THEM... ALL OF THEM!!! (Even the Mickey Mouse one that is staring in my front window from across the street in the neighbors' yard... sorry DIS'ers, but even the Disney ones make me crazy).

No, take it from me, they DON'T look any cooler in the warm climates.

White lights, candles in the windows, wreath on the door, decorated tree on the front porch... I may have moved out of New England, but I still like my traditional Christmas decor. (But I HAVE added illuminated snowflakes to my palm trees...they just looked blah.)
