Infants at Artist Point

Just curious what people's experiences are with infants at Artist Point. I'm taking my wife there for the 1st time in December. Our 6 year old chose to go to the Cub's Den for the night, so we booked that for him. We were going to hire in room babysitters for the twins, but it seems really pricey. It would run us $76 (at least). I was talking to the reservationist at Disney who was super nice, and she said taking infants wouldn't be a big deal. She takes her young kids to California Grille.

In one respect I'm thinking, we've spent alot of money on this vacation and an extra $76 is alot of money. In another I'm thinking, I'd really like to treat my wife to a nice dinner, where she can get dressed up and not have to worry about baby vomit and dirty diapers for a couple of hours.

We always eat there at least twice during our stays. Our opinion - treat her to the nice, distraction free dinner. It's really finer dining - very much lower key (quiet) than most of the restaurants - and an infant (unless sleeping) - will be a distraction not only for you both. We hesitated taking our DNephew who was 4 last year - but he was read "the riot act" - and behaved perfectly. It's really a place to get some downtime - away from the hubbub of "all things Disney" - IMHO. Hope you enjoy it as much as we do!

If you want to take your wife out to a nice relaxing dinner, I don't see how taking care of infant twins is going to allow that to happen at all.

Not only that, but I'd imagine if the babies didn't behave perfectly, that those dining with you might be a tiny bit frustrated. Yes, it's Disney, but it's one of their signature places, which influences my comment.

How old will the twins be? I'm sorry, I don't remember! The babysitting charges can seem high, but I know when our twins were little I would've jumped at the chance to have dinner alone with my DH. If the babysitter is more than you want to pay, I would think you'd be fine at AP, just remember to be respectful of the other patrons, and if one (or both) of the babies are fussy, take them out of the resturant.

I have eaten there many times and seen infants there on several of those occasions. So, you certainly can take them, but you need to be prepared to remove them from the restaurant if they start to act up.

That being said, if you and your wife are dealing with twin infants, I am confident that she would love an opportunity to get away from them for a couple hours and to enjoy a nice adult meal with you. $76 seems a small price to pay for that.

We're lucky, as they're usually very well behaved when we take them out. They tend to entertain one another. Still, we're very cautious about disturbing other people.

Go ahead and bring them! Save that $76 for some Mickey Bars or Dole Whips!

If the babies are usually pretty good in restaurants, give it a try. (My kids were pretty good, even as babies). If you see where they are getting antsy, you could ask your waitress to step it up a notch and bring out dinner right after the appetizer, or something along those lines! If worse comes to worse, you can always get it boxed up to bring back to the room! Go and have a great time!!!!

I took my 17 month old. That was the best trip we've ever had for Disney restaurants, actually. She was so stimulated by everything there was at WDW, when you took her into a quiet, dark restaurant she just put her head in your lap and fell asleep. I don't think she made it as far as getting a glass of milk more than a couple of times in our ten day trip.

I would be prepared to take them out if they were loud, but well behaved children are fine.

Hi Boomhauer, You and your wife must work extremely hard with three young children. Please consider hiring the sitter. This way you can look forward to a wonderfully carefree date night out together. No worries about one or the other (or even both) of you having to leave the table 1/2 way through dinner due to babies being well, babies. They are delightfully unpredictable-they certainly grown and change month to month. This is an expense you can plan for, and the benefit is a guaranteed relaxing night out for both of you.

I think you guys deserve a lovely dinner for two!

I concur and I'm not trying to be mean, but AP is a fairly quiet sit down restaurant and IMHO infants or even toddlers really should not be taken there and you're considers TWINS . IMO get the babysitter and bite the bullet if you can afford AP since the babysitter is only going to be like 1/3 of the total bill for the night. To enjoy it again IMHO children should be in their teens.

You can do it with or without the kids. Artist Point is upscale, family friendly.

We have taken our grandaughter to the nicer disney restaurants. When we do, we know that if she starts acting up one of us, usually her daddy leaves the restaurant with her while everyone else finishes their meal.

Now, it sounds like you are already planning a nice vacation, so I would spend the extra $76. We have also opted for the inroom sitter for our grandaughter. We used Kids Night Out and they were fantastic. We had this woman from 8am to 10pm. Our grandaughter loved her. Grandaughter was about 18months at the time.

So, with twins, I am guessing your wife could use an adult only night! I say surprise her!

WOW, all the negative talk about taking young kids is a bit discouraging - we have reservations myself my wife and our 3 kids - 6, 4, 1.5 ... it really would make for a bad experience if we received dirty looks or worse yet someone saying something because one of the kids make a noise or something.

Well-behaved kids are welcome at almost every restaurant at WDW. If your kids are used to fine dining at home, and can sit quietly for a couple of hours, you're going to be just fine at Artist Point. No one's going to give you dirty looks for bringing children into the restaurant.

That said, though, it IS a fine dining experience, and the restaurant is pretty quiet. If the little ones get fussy and/or noisy, it's going to be a lot more noticeable to the other diners than it would at a place like Whispering Canyon. If you're OK with taking any restless kids out of the restaurant for a walk, till they settle down, then Artist Point will work out fine for your family.

I just booked Kids Nite Out. I felt like I was on trial with all the questions.
