Infants and Restaurants

Hi - We are leaving in 5 days with our 6 month old baby girl. She isn't sitting up very well yet so I'm concerned about what we will do in restaurants. If the high chairs have high backs, she'll be fine but I don't want to put her in one with a low back. I also do not want to bring her infant carrier unless I absolutely have to. Does anyone know if Disney has those fancy reclining type highchairs for infants? If not, what have you done in the past???

I've only seen and used those type of high chairs in Crystal Palance and Chef Mickeys. At all other WDW restaurants, I've only been given, and seen, the usual restuarant-type wooden high chairs with the low backs. When we used to take out my kids to eat, when they've outgrown their infant seats, yet were too little for those type of chairs, I'd use my purse to help them sit up. WDW is no different, and you'll either have to improvise or bring the infant carrier.

We'll be going w/ DD who will be 3 months.. I was hoping we'd be able to keep her in the stroller, since she won't really be sitting up at all yet and we won't have the carrier in the parks. Has anyone had any luck w/ this?

For lack of a better way to describe them, they're kind of like a carrier-type care seat, on a stand, on wheels. My DD was 7 months old when we brought her for the first time, and these worked out so well! It's table height, so she's not sitting in a carrier on the floor, and it cradled her, so we didn't have to prop her up. I don't know if all the restaurants have them, but if not, I would ask about bringing in a stroller with you. If the layout of the place isn't too crowded, it shouldn't be a problem. HTH

If she is unable to sit in the chair (I think most are those lowbacks)--just bring in the stroller. I have seen some families successfully do this. I mean--if the baby can't sit up--they can't sit up and if there is nothing to accomodate but baby's stroller...I think that would be justifiable to bring in.

ditto what jel0511 said, only CP an CM have infant seats. We have been able to bring our stroller in all other places we've eaten with infants.

I went with our 6 month old last summer and we put a big blanket under the stroller and stuffed it behind her in the high chair to help her sit up . . .worked like a CHARM!

I thought I read on here that some resturants didn't allow strollers because they blocked the pathways through the tables? Anybody know for sure?

Last April with my dd who was 8 months old we used our stroller in Cape May and Rainforest because she was tired. Then this December with my niece we brought strollers in again. THey are great about it!

If they don't have accomodations to seat an infant--then in that case...the stroller would be along the same lines as a wheelchair that they must accomodate. Babies are person's when it comes to making a PS--and that person must be accomodated .

They don't allow them in CP--but when I toted in my 4mo---we saw a family with an infant (either same age or younger than mine) and they had the stroller/car seat combo parked at their table.


(Disclaimer: I am not saying a stroller and wheelchair are equal--but in an establishment that does not have proper accomodations for a person in the party regardless of age and size--I would argue that yes--a stroller should be considered a reasonable accomodation ....ADA requires that a wheelchair must be accomodated--so if they can move a chair for a wheelchair, they can certainly move a chair for an infant's stroller even though ADA doesn't require that)

When we took our (then) 6 month old son to Disney, I had him either in the carriage at the table or on my lap. He didn't sit up at that point either.

Question on ADR availability and party size. We've got two adults, two toddlers and an infant that will be in an infant carrier when we visit. Tried making an ADR for a party of 5 in a couple of places with no availability. Tried for a party of 4 and was successful.

Wondering about the legitimacy of this approach if DD (infant) is not actually occupying a seat. Will we be accomodated, or will they usher us out if no walk-ups are available (which is likely).

Any thoughts/experiences?

When we were there last year we had our newest dd she was 5wks old, we had a lot of problems with most of the restaurants, because they didn't have the infant high chairs, only a few had them. We either took the infant carrier in to the restaurant or held her, they normally did not let us take in the stoller because there wasn't room in the restaurant around the tables. Hope this helps.

Thanks. We'll be happy to bring the infant carrier in or to hold her but really are wondering whether they'll say to us "you booked for 4 and you've got 5 so you have to leave" even though we're only taking up four spaces.

When we took my son at 3 months old we took our stroller into every restaurant except Garden Grill (where they had the infant seats). We didn't have any problems and we ate at a lot of restaurants on that trip (and it was June and busy).
