Infant at WDW - 3 months old, things to think about?

So we are headed to WDW in just over two weeks, and this is the first time I will be traveling with an infant (3 months). We went when my older DD was 5 months, and did great... but I'm coming up with a couple of challenges this time.

1) DD2 can't sit in a restaurant high chair yet I don't think. Granted, I haven't tried... any tips for dining at disney restaurants with this issue? I know they sometimes let you bring in a stroller, but we will have a double stroller (rented from Orlando Stroller Rentals - our first time doing that), and I doubt they will let us bring that in.

I was considering using a sling or front carrier for meals, but that's kind of annoying... any other suggestions?

2) Formula and Diapers. I'm going to need both of these in fairly substantial quantities. I really don't want to schlepp them from home (especially with baggage fees these days) But since we are going to be there for 10 days, I'm going to have to stock up somehow. I was considering having "groceries" delivered. One suggestion from the boards was Green Grocer (we are staying at the BC Villas, so will have a kitchen)

3) Diaper bag/backpack, what equipment for travelling the parks? Last time I just used a small backpack, and that worked pretty well, but I was wondering if anyone else had good suggestions. Especially as bottles/formula are concerned, since we will be spending long days in the park.

That's all I've got for the moment, but I'm sure I'll think of others!

What?!? Your 2 year old "can't" sit in a high chair? Sure she can! Come on over to the light sister friend!

As for the baby, you definately want a carrier/sling. Not just for dining, but for lines and rides and shows, and all the places that baby can go that the stroller can't. The other option for dining is the carseat carrier. Bring that in a snap in and out frame. It can usually rest on right the wooden high chairs that they use. If not turn the chair upside down and it will rest in the base.

When we took our son as an infant, I had a fantastic back pack by sport baby, which doesnt exist anymore. I don't know why not it was the best thing ever. But I dont know anything about whats on the market anymore.

I think she meant her 2nd DD, not her 2 y/o. :goodvibes Oh and I can't get my DD2 to sit in a high chair for the life of me... she's lil miss independent! lmao

I'm glad my DD(almost 2) isn't the only one who is antsy in a high chair! :) Little Miss Independant is what what call her. :)

We went when DD was young, not as young as 3 months though. I have an Ergo and love that thing. A 3 month old should probably not be in a high chair independantly yet. I would say the Ergo is probably the most comfortable way to bring her around. As for meals, maybe ask if you can bring the stroller in? We loved going out so I mastered the art of holding DD and eating at the same time. Not ideal but works!

I got an awesome diaper bag from Lands End. Holds EVERYTHING! We did Garden Grocer and they were awesome! Bay Lake held it for us until we checked in. Highly recommend them.

I forget, are you renting the stroller? Can you rent a car seat? While bulky, it would help in restaurants and you may want to use that in the stroller.

We have always brought our stroller into restaurants when our children were too little to sit in a high chair. We have eaten at numerous restaurants all around WDW and it has never been a problem. Our last 3 trips we used a double Combi stroller and it was still ok to bring it in. The hostesses understand that many people don't bring the infant seat/carrier on vacation and holding the baby while eating can be a challenge. Just mention it when you make dining ressies and again when you check in at the restaurant. We have never been told we couldn't take the stroller inside. BTW, both Chef Mickeys and Crystal Palace have infant high chairs on wheels, so you won't need the stroller there. Also, we have used Garden Grocer and they have been great. We use a backpack, rather than a diaper bag too. DS's first trip was at 3 months old and DD's first trip was at 9 weeks old and we have some great memories from those trips. We feel like 'old pros' visiting WDW with babies so if you have any other questions, feel free to ask. Have a great trip!:goodvibes

Thanks everyone!

Yes, by DD2, I meant my 2nd DD, who is the 3 month old. :cutie: My 3.5 year old better be able to sit by herself! :lmao: But at 2, she was a wiggly thing as well. She'd sit in the high chair for about 5 minutes. We finally gave up and just put her on a regular chair (not even a booster), which she seemed to tolerate better.

So I'm going to go with a carrier then, and see if we can bring in strollers. I recall doing that when my first DD was 5 months, but it was a small single umbrella stroller, I'm glad to know they will sometimes let you do it with a double as well.

I think I will definitely use Green Grocer. When they ask you to enter a zip code, do you just use the one for Disney?

Any hints to handle this are good for me to!! We leave next week and DS is just turning 2mths this weekend!!

I am mtaking my wrap, but we are taking our carseat to attach to the stroller since the stroller does not recline enough for him yet.

as for diapers and such I am packing them, I figure he will use most of them and that leaves more room in my suitcase to bring stuff home!!!

I've been to Disney more times than I can count, but doing it with my new daughter will be a different experience for me, plus, this is the first time doing it with 2 kids!

I wanted to take her bucket/carseat that goes in a stroller, but I'm traveling down to Florida by myself, and lugging all that stuff, plus two kids through the airport, plus, then I'd have either have to take the single stroller that incorporates the carseat, or the double sit-n-stand, which isn't as great for Disney because I'm pretty sure my 3.5 yr old will want to nap in the stroller at times too. We considered renting a double one at the parks, but since we walk to epcot from the Beach Club almost every day, that gets to be long walk carrying a 36 lb kid! ;), and I don't think they are so great for infants, because you can't strap them in - so I figured we needed a stroller, but I didn't have a good one to bring with me.... so we're renting the one from Orlando Stroller Rentals. We haven't tried it before, but I'll report back once we're home.

I also have a stroller/carseat combo

That I use for the 3 month old in the airport and as a carseat in our rental car (I rent a carseat for the 3.5yr old). But it really isn't sturdy enough for 10 days in the parks, plus it doesn't have any storage (I have an older model). However, it works great in airports and on airplanes. We got it when my first DD was 3 months old, and it's still going strong. I highly recommend it if you do a lot of traveling, especially like I do when I usually have the kids on a plane all by myself.

15 days, can't wait! :cloud9:

Interested in reading everyone's helpful tips. We arrive next Friday and our second son just turned 2 months. I've never been to WDW with a baby quite this little.

At some of the resurants they do have infant highchairs. They are more bucket like the carseat. We had one at 1900 park fare last march for my dd who was 14 weeks at the time. It also had wheels on it so you could push it through the buffet line. We put a a blanket down and put her in. It was also nice not to have to take her out for the pictures with the characters.

Oh, that's great to know, since we are going to 1900 PF for dinner. Thanks!
