Inexpensive Tires

Anyone have any suggestions on finding inexpensive tires? I havent had to buy any in a long time and we looked tonight at sams club and they are $475 with $70 off from michelin. I cant believe they are almost $500 for minivan tires. These are truck tires or anything.

If that is for 4 tires, they are inexpensive. Not sure you'll get a better deal than Sams.

I think that's pretty cheap. We paid about $500 for them installed on a sedan; but we had multiple flats and couldn't drive far for the best deal. I tried to make it to Costco but our spare was flat. Oh well; a place in town did it, thankfully.

That is for 4 tires. I looked at tirerack.com but after shipping to the installer and then paying them to balance and such it is more expensive.

Last time I got my tires changed out it was over $400 with it including 4 tires and the service. So, those tires are actually pretty cheap or at least right on with the price.

We just got new tires on Sat for our Sienna after we had a flat tire on Saturday morning. We got Michelin this time (Energy) and they were buy three get one for $1. Still cost us about $535 to get them and get them put on. Plus you have to pay the tire fee for the state disposal.

Don't forget, you get what you pay for. We didn't want to have to buy another set of tires before we turn this van in.

In June I got 4 tires for $406 from Les Schwab with a warranty for 50,000 miles, with free rotation every 5,000 miles. I drive a Dodge Grand Caravan, if that helps.

It's okay to get the best price on a high quality tire, but do NOT buy cheap tires! Your family's safety is riding on those tires.

We had inexpensive tires on a third car that our son drove, and the rear tire blew! The car swerved off the road and my son narrowly missed hitting a tree head on with his brother in the car. Both air bags went off. An ambulance took them to the hospital, luckily they were released shortly thereafter with no lasting injuries (one son had a concussion). THANK GOD! (this was 3 years ago).

I love saving a buck just as much as the next frugal person, but I will never buy cheap tires again! You cannot put a price on safety.

That is a great deal! Last year I had to get "lower quality" tires on my truck than I am used to, and it was still around 1200 dollars. I think for my dads 98 villager, they paid around 600 at costco? Not entirely sure I heard that discussion correctly though....

Many Michellin tires wholesale for around $100 (or more) each. $475 for a set of four installed is an excellent deal!

It may have already been said, but that Sam's Club price you gave us is installed, complete with stems, wheel balancing and road hazard warranty.

While it sounds expensive up front, one tends to get a better deal at the two big warehouse clubs (Sam's Club and Costco) on new tires than at local shops.

Are you trying to say that expensive tires don't get flats?

Of course not. There is a huge difference between "getting a flat" and "having a tire blow-out". When a tire blows out, the car loses control. Do all cheap tires blow-out? No. However, that's a gamble I won't be taking again. I was just sharing my story.

I wouldn't choose a cheap tire, my families life is more valuable than saving a few dollars. Sams is not the best place to buy tires, neither is Walmart. What they get is not the best quality, even if is has the same name as tires from another place.

I just put new tires on my Dodge Grand Caravan at Sears. Goodyear Touring tire has an 80,000 mile warranty, with installation, mounting, balancing, stems, and alignment (which is needed so the new tires don't wear out fast), and road hazard coverage was $560.

I've had Goodyear and BFGoodrich tires on my trucks over the years and those brands dont perform as well or last nearly as long as Michelins. Michelins are expensive compared to the other brands, no question about it. But well worth the extra expense in my opinion.
