On our upcoming trip to DLR we will be visiting with my wife's cousin and her kids in San Diego for a day and a half. I was wondering if there are any inexpensive outings we could go on...Sea World and the zoo seem to be high in price. It would be for 5 kids and 3 adults. I just don't want to put them out by going to Sea World. Thanks for any help!!!! ::MickeyMo

If the kids aren't too young, I would recommend Old Town. It's a bit of history, both cultural and architectual. There's great music and dancing, wonderful food..a little bit of everything.
There's a good web site: GoCityKids.com that has alot of ideas. They have parent ratings and different categories depending on how old the kids are and their interests. Some parts of the site require you to be a member to access the info, but there's enough free stuff to give you some good ideas.
On the main page, there's a list of cities and just click on San Diego. I'm sure this will be a big help in planning your time in the area.

Another thing to consider - if the day is nice, you can take the ferry across to Coronado Island, play on the beach, go to the shops over there...

Balboa Park has some museums - the Science Museum is a hands on museum that you all may find interesting.

I have heard something about a seal beach...is that in that general area as well???

The Children's Pool (with the seals) is in La Jolla, which is not close to Coronado at all. I don't take visiting friends and relatives to the Children's Pool, last time I went there it was actually pretty gross.

Old Town and Balboa Park are great suggestions if you are looking for inexpensive things to do. Many things are free or very inexpensive in Old Town. The museums in Balboa Park do have admissions fees, but there are many free things that happen on the weekends. Tuesdays are a free day for many museums as well.

Ask your cousin if she has passes to either the Zoo or Sea World. Many people do and they come with guest discount passes each year. You might be in luck!

I was also thinking about a trip to Coronado Island. Again, without knowing the ages of the children, I'd recommend the beach, wander thru the Del Coronado Hotel which is pretty fascinating to see and then get a bite across the street at a great Mexican restaurant called Miguel's Cocina. This is one of our favorite day trips whenever we go to San Diego.

I haven't heard of seal beach in San Diego. However, there's a Seal Beach near Long Beach. Is that what you're referring to?

Anyways, other things to do would be to walk around at Seaport Village, shop at Horton Plaza or go to Birch Aquarium. It's relatively inexpensive and small enough where if you've got some toddlers, they would enjoy it.

Are you visiting on the weekend or during the week? If you pm me the exact date, I will do some research in the San Diego Family magazine when it comes out. And please let me know the ages of the children.
