Looking at 16 of us going to an indoor water park in Oct.- probably Kalahari in Sandusky. Any codes or advice on other water parks that would have accomodations for all of us to stay together?

OMG!

We have been to Kalahari in Sandusky 4 times in the past 2 years. We LOVE it there! It's great for kids of all ages. Even the kiddie area has swings for infants. It's great great great! Just keep a watch on their website for the different specials that they run, some are really amazing! If you want a certain deal, book it as soon as it comes up, b/c the prices only go up, not down.

They have giant Family Suites that fit up to 12 people, each has 3 private bedrooms, and a foldout couch, fully equipped kitchen, and 3 bathrooms. They often have these included in their specials.

If you have any questions about Kalahari, PM me, I've got lots of info in this head!

Our family has been there twice this summer. It is a beautiful resort. My son loves roller coasters, so we did Cedar Point and the Kalahari. We got a really good deal on Travelzoo. They seem to have new deals posted each month. Just go to Travelzoo and type in Ohio. Good luck:thumbsup2

I use to work in the reservations dept for the Kalahari resorts for both Wisconsin and Sandusky..if you have any questions feel free to ask me..I still know a lot of ppl who have work there and I'd be happy to help in any way possible :)

thanks everyone. I spoke with the Kalahari reservations and he suggested booking 2 Comination suites since each sleeps 8. We're looking at $899.90 plus tax. Is that crazy for one night for 16 people? These suites do each have a full kitchen so we could save on food costs.

I also looked into Great Wolf Lodge and we can get two loft suites, each sleep 8 for $659.90 plus tax. I have never been to Great Wolf so not sure if it will be suitable for us. Our kids are age 5-13 (mostly 10-13 yr. old boys). These rooms do not have kitchens, but have a mini fridge and microwave in each suite.

Not sure what to do.

I'm in ca. My family in I think this places looks like fun. We've never been to Ohio. Whats the weather like in Nov? Is this water park far from the airport? I booked marked this under future vacation ideas. Would love any info.

2 adult 1 child (almost 11)
food pricey?
is What else is in the area?

for a family of 3 you can usually expect to pay about $119 and up for a basic room with 2 queen beds during the week, for example I pulled up November 17, as compared to a weekend such as the 14th which is at $199 for that same room....Kalahari is what's called a FLEX rate hotel, meaning the room rooms they sell--the higher the price CAN sometimes go...Nothing is guaranteed until you pay your deposit for your room(first night +tax) when you book your reservation...Sometimes the rate will go down the closer you get and other times they offer promos at the last min.you can change ANYTHING you want on your ressie for no fee...so say you book at $129 but before you go u see a package deal for 179 but it's got extras included such as tokens and pizza and a better room style, all you need to do it call and they will switch it no problem...the same applies if you notice a package or room price drop from what you were give you can call and they will give you a refund..

as far as food--well it's a resort, african themed to be exact, so it can be a lil pricer than normal everyday food..the property has 3 in house restaurants as well as various concession stands...there is literally something for everyone there lol..

as far as what's in the area--personally I wasn't in OH, our call center is in WI at the Wisconsin Dells property and I was on leave when they took the agents down there...we use to have a website to refer ppl to but for the life of me I can not remember it..

The waterpark is about 45min from Cleveland Airport and they do have shuttle service to the resort
If you want any other info please feel free to contact me..hope this gives you a place to start..boy do i miss working there lol i was one of their top 10 sales agents lol...

We live about 45 minutes east of Sandusky and take the kids up there for a couple of nights each year. Kalahari is much better than Great Wolf Lodge, especially for older kids. There is a lot more to do there as well as more "thrill slides". They have a huge arcade too. They also have a nice area for the younger kids. Great Wolf is OK, but is smaller and older kids will probably find it boring after a few hours. So if you are taking kids, say over 5 Kalahari is the way to go.

They often run specials on their website. Even the reservation folks don't know when they will pop up. They'll usually be available for a day, or when the rooms sell out. They do this when they need to sell rooms out. This year we booked with the discounted rate for police/fire/military and then 2 days before going my husband spotted a buy one get one deal that ended up being about $100 cheaper. They changed our discount and refunded the difference no problem.

Both places are near each other and are on RT 250 which is a main road in Sandusky. There are plenty of dining options from McDonald's on up to choose from within minutes of either resort, so you are not stuck with eating there....though my husband and kids did enjoy the buffet at Kalahari one evening. There is also a grocery store right behind Great Wolf (and just a few minutes down the road from Kalahari).

To the PP from CA. I doubt you'd like the weather in Ohio in Nov...unless you like cold, freezing rain and/or snow. :lmao: It could be any of those in Nov and Sandusky is right on Lake Erie. There are a lot of things to do in that area, but not so much during the winter months. Sandusky (and OH in general) is more a place to visit in the warmer months. Cedar Point is one of the best amusment parks in the country if you are into coasters. I believe it's up to 17 now. They are not open in Nov, but do stay open through October for Halloweekends. They are a lot of fun and have things for both little and big kids. Nothing like riding Top Thrill Dragster at 120mp when it's 40 degrees. Talk about wind chill! :scared1:

thanks to the 2 posters above for the info.

I get vacation time in all Nov, 2 weeks in dec( i guess summer months are out-lol), 3 weeks in March and end of june and most of july(year round school)

what would be the best time. I dont like hot humid weather.

is the resort all body type friendly?

my guess would be your best bet is gonna be in the beginning of November if you don't mind the cold..March you will be hitting the spring break crowds, yes ppl go to Kalahari for spring break lol, and june and july are especially busy with Kalahari being so close to Cedar point...again as long as you don't mind the cold you should be ok...it does have 273,000 sq feet of waterpark fun lol and also the dry play area for children, the arcade, the pottery pizzazz(not pizza, a place to paint pottery to take home with you for an extra fee)...if you haven't checked out the website yet here it is:http://www.kalahariresorts.com/oh/

hope you guys have a great time..and when u book tell them Sarah who use to work in Res sent ya lol...if u have an exact idea of dates i might be able to get you info on what's called Friends and Family rate which is only $79.95, they give those to ppl who know ppl at Kalahari and you sorta know me lol but they only run Friends and Family rate ONCE in a while, it's not an everyday thing..and 79.95 covers up to 4 guests

Yes the resort is all body type friendly..we were at the Wisconsin Dells property last Sunday and all the rides say max weight 250lbs...the only ones i'm not sure about is the body tube slides..sorry

Don't worry about body types...there are all sizes and shapes and some interesting choices for covering those shapes. I'm not exactly thin (OK, I'm the total opposite of it ) and I didn't feel uncomfortable at all. It's very family oriented and nobody feels out of place.

Early Nov can be lovely fall weather, 50's-60's most of the time, but being northern we occasionally do get snow before Thanksgiving around here. Hard to call. March the same....often we don't have spring thaw until April. Those months do limit your outdoor activities a bit. Kalahari is a balmy 85 every day however so it's perfectly fine to visit there any time.

However if you visit during June/July you can also visit Cedar Point which you'd need at least 2 days to ride everything. It also does have an outdoor waterpark which is a day's worth of stuff itself. The Lake Erie Islands...Kelly's Island, Put in Bay, etc... They have state parks with everything from swimming, saililng, hiking, biking, to wine tours and fun night life. We can get hot and we can get humid sometimes, but it's nothing compared to being in WDW during the same time. To break 90 is not unheard of, but it's not typical for us.

There is also Cleveland less than an hour away. We have a lovely zoo here and some good museums including the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame.

I could actually feel my hair frizzing-it was awful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Luckily the rest of the week was cool or cold. We wore sweather and some night mittens. DD wasnt happy because it was to cold to go in the pool. I'm going to keep and eye out for promos.
We already have our vacation picked out for this year. 1st cruise in Nov baja 4 nights
