Indoor Turkey Fryer

I think most people do that. The problem is when they use pots without the highest safe fill line marked they still end up beyond the safe point. When it's water, it looks fine. When it's hot oil with a turkey being placed in it suddenly what looked fine with placid water isn't fine any more.

The oil will also expand a little when heated, so it's important to be really conservative here.

Deep frying a big bird is just about the only technique I haven't tried.
Reading this thread with interest and wondering if anyone has an idea why the bird bobbed to the top. Container not deep enough? Needs a smaller bird although 9 odd lbs is already pretty small? Maybe cutting the bird in quarters or in half from neck to wing tail or cutting of the full legs, and scissoring off the back bone first is a solution that would leave no air bubble.

I've never seen one bob, but traditional fryers (as well as my oil free fryer) put the bird on a metal rack that might help weigh it down. I don't know if the electric dryers have one or not, but it would seem they should as it makes fishing the bird out of the oil a lot easier.

The trick is to put the turkey in the pot, fill with just enough water to cover, then pull the turkey out. Then, mark the water level, and that's your fill point for the oil.

We now use an oiless fryer (it's propane powered too).

Aren't they just the greatest things? We love ours. We have saved enough money on oil to pay for it twice! And we use it so much more! Dh has done two deer roast in it and several beef roast. Cooked the most tender steak on it too!

We have been frying the turkey in an Indoor Turkey Fryer for the last few years, and we use it indoors. It turns out amazing every time. It is like deep frying anything with the one we use, and we can actually use any fried food in it if we wanted to.

My husband always uses our traditional outdoor oil fryer for turkeys, and they come out great, but I am pretty curious about the oiless fryers. Is the turkey just as good? Is it easy to use? Do you have any brand recommendations or tips?

The fryer we bought has a minimum line and a maximum line for the oil.

I appreciate everyone's input.
I hope we get perfect turkeys on Thanksgiving, the entire family is excites about fried turkeys this year!

The turkey comes out a little different, but very similar. Takes longer - maybe 1/2 again as long. SUPER easy to use. Mine is a Charbroil brand and IIRC, DW got it through Target online.

We never submerged it as slowly as you mentioned so not sure what the problem was.

Maybe my pot was a bit small for the turkey... i just wasn't sure what would happen if I just dunked the turkey all at once. Didn't want it to explode. Perhaps it was bit less the 5 minutes, more like 2 or 2.

And don't forget to let the turkey chill a bit before frying :teeth:

Thank you! That's the one that I was looking at.

Just don't ask anyone to hold your beer before you start the process, ok?

Seriously, all ya'll turkey fryers be safe!
