What can I get to spray on my bed to keep my cat off of it?

My cats dislike the small of citrus. Maybe dry your bedding with citrus dryer sheets?

If our cats are any indication, it's closing the door or nothing. You'll be hard pressed to keep your kitty off the bed with you pretty much no matter what you try. They'll just end up close to your head if you try to put scents or anything on a particular spot (and you don't want to try foul smells that will affect you as well, of course). Close the door at bedtime and they'll get used to the routine eventually -- you may have to put up with a few nights of crying and scratching at the door though ;)

Same here. We wouldn't even mind, but they want to play with the venetian blinds at 3 AM. The crying still occurs years later - and the shaking of the door like little monsters!:D

Don't be surprised when closed door results in clawed carpet or door frames.
Wow. I’ve known a few cat owners who close their doors and definitely don’t have such an issue despite their cats still having claws. Maybe the key is to train them young?

Hmm, have you tried closing the door with the cat inside? In other words, when the cat joins you in the bed, say, "oh good, Bedtime!" and close the door. If the cat cannot go out, usually, they want OUT NOWwwwwww........
Of course, they may be happy and want to stay, but..........
Speaking as someone who likes the cat in bed because they tend to sleep on my arthritic joints (which helps, btw), this works, so my door stays open..........
