Indiana Jones and the search for armadillos, trifle, Alice and dreams.

So - here we are! Waking up in Disney after a really good night's sleep

Our alarm goes off at 7am - thanks Mickey and Stitch. Now, here was the real test. Could four of us get up and ready and out of the room in an hour? Especially Miss 'I simply must have a shower and straighten my hair' Sarah?

Amazingly yes! After a breakfast of last night's left over desserts (key lime pie anyone?) we were up and out by 8am. The view from our door still looked pretty good:

DSCF0698.jpg

Off we trotted to the bus stop. Here was the first test of the Disney transport system - we'd left an hour to get from door to 'door'. Would it be enough?

Well, considering the MK bus came straight away and we found ourselves waiting for rope drop by 8:20 I would say we'd left enough time! It was great though - there were hula hoops for the waiting children and it gave us time to appreciate that we were about to entry the Magic Kingdom:

2008_0818Image0047.jpg

So we waited for the rope drop ceremony - something we'd never experienced before. Kate did some videoing with her new birthday present:

2008_0818Image0051.jpg

Pretty soon, the train arrived and the day had begun!

2008_0818Image0059.jpg

Our plan of action was to split up - the brave Kate and Simon would go off and do things that involved them plummeting downwards at speed. Sarah and I would be a little more sedate! (Yes, and cowardly!)

So we surged in with the crowds and then made plans to meet up at The Haunted Mansion later. There was almost no time to take in the fact that I was in my favourite theme park in the whole world ever. Sarah and I had a plan - get to Buzz Lightyear (Sarah has an unnatural attraction to Buzz - we went on it so many times in 2006 that I developed RSI in my right thumb!)

So, it was hectic saying goodbye to the others and being swept along. But then I saw this and my breath caught in my throat:

2008_0818Image0060.jpg

This is it for me. Magic personnified. I managed to take a quick photo as the tears prickled the backs of my eyes. We'd done it. We were here. In the years before Simon and I met we'd both had some tough times and finding each other was like a lovely reward for all the rubbish we'd endured. And being here was like the icing on the cake.

I took a deep breath and jumped into the fray - Sarah at my side. Now Sarah is quite huggy for a teenager but the hand holding days are long gone. We developed this system of her holding onto my clothing if we were squeezing through hoards of people. Even at 14 I needed reassurance that I wouldn't lose her. Sometimes, if there was room, we linked arms but it was mostly the shirt grabbing - or bag strap holding worked quite well too.

We veered off towards tomorrowland - and Buzz. We walked onto Buzz twice.
To be honest, this day is all a bit of a blur - we did so much but I can't remember when or in what order!

2008_0818Image0142.jpg

Of course, the obligatory dumbo trip:

2008_0818Image0066.jpg

A dizzying trip on the teacups (Sarah liked to spin fast!):

2008_0818Image0095.jpg

Outside the teacups we saw Alice and The Mad Hatter. Sarah wanted to meet them but there was a long queue and it was nearly time to meet Simon and Kate so we decided we'd do that another time. This had grave consequences for the rest of our holiday as you will see.

We did, however, bump into these guys:

2008_0818Image0090.jpg

Aladdin and Jasmine were soooo cool! We queued up with all the little girls! The line shut after us and the CM had to keep turning people away. (I hasten to add that A and J were coming back out later!)

Well, they were great! As soon as Sarah went over Aladdin cried 'I like your shoes' (Sarah had some chunky trainers on with colourful laces) and he started comparing shoes. Then he spotted me - 'Is this your servant?' I replied 'Kind of!' They were both lovely and posed for lots of photos. Sarah was thrilled.

Meanwhile Simon and Kate had been having fun on Splash Mountain and Big Thunder Mountain. In fact, on BTMR they'd had a bit of magic - they'd been chosen as the first two to ride in the train - ALL ON THEIR OWN! They could choose whether they wanted the front or the back carriage - they went in the front and rode the mountain in their own private train. How cool is that?

Here's Kate enjoying her rides:

DSCF0716.jpg

DSCF0719.jpg

I got a couple more shots of the castle of the course of the day:

2008_0818Image0136.jpg

We met up again and went on the new, revamped Haunted Mansion. We'd always all enjoyed this but now it was simply fantastic! The new neverending staircase was great and all the extras really made the ride amazing. Simon was freaked out by all the new bride stuff - really creepy!

But our next ride terrified him even more. It was time for him to face his fears. After getting out of it in 2006 there was no getting away from it this time. Yes, it was time for Simon and Kate to return to: 'It's a Small World'!!

Now this is Simon's Mum's fave Disney ride ever - but Simon is freaked out by all the little dancing and singing dolls. I told him that he owed it to his mother to go on it for her sake.

2008_0818Image0070.jpg

Ahhh...what a pair of brave soldiers!

We reward them with a brunch at Columbia Harbour House. Shari likee!

2008_0818Image0072.jpg

We share two CS meals as we have a late lunch ADR at Liberty Tree Tavern.

Si and Kate go off to ride Space Mountain and then go and meet them for our meal at LTT. Very nice. Pot roast. Yum.

We're full and tired now. We wander up main street and look in the shops. I believe we may have indulged the children's passion for trying on silly hats:

2008_0818Image0083.jpg

2008_0818Image0109.jpg

Don't know where they get it from:

2008_0818Image0108.jpg

Nope nothing to do with me at all:

As we come out of the shops we notice cast members with skipping ropes. Kate decides to take the plunge and acquits herself honourably. She can fly, she can fly:

2008_0818Image0115.jpg

We are all so tired that we decide to hitch a ride to Mickey's Toontown Fair - a new experience for all of us. We get on this:

2008_0818Image0119.jpg

Notice the posing driver? We were excited to be travelling on the Walter E Disney!

We had fun in Toontown but by now we were beginning to flag a little:

DSCF0733.jpg

We wandered back to Fantasyland and had a sit down at Mickey's Phillharmagic:

2008_0818Image0076.jpg

I love this show so much! Everytime we go the audience is just so delighted!
We also go back on the teacups but this time I cunningly palm spin wizard Sarah off on Simon. Kate and I are far more sedate! I think we also went on the carousel at this point:

Next up - time for me to face my nemesisissiisis - BTMR.

On the promise that there are no huge plunges in BTMR I have agreed to go on this ride for the first time ever with Simon and Kate. The fast passes were there so I had no excuse. There is no way we'd ever get Sarah on this ride so for the first time ever we leave her to her own devices in Disney. I'm a bit anxious about this but she's very sensible and we leave her clear instructions.

(I think she was going to search for Alice again!) Anyhow, we join the queue for BTMR. Unfortunately, even with a fastpass there is quite a wait. Maybe twenty minutes or so. Kate is anxious for me and keeps giving me looks as if she's scared I'll throw up or run screaming from the fast pass queue. I mostly just rather hot and worried that we won't make our rendezvous time with Sarah.

I could also see too much of the track:

2008_0818Image0138.jpg

Eventually we get onto the carriage of doom:

DSCF0736.jpg

Simon trying to take photos of this auspicious moment. The moment he finally got his wife onto a rollercoaster! Now I'm not really looking terrified on the photo - Kate and I found a pair of sunglasses that someone had left in the loose belongings pouch. We handed them to a CM and we were finally off!

I loved it! It was such fun. But don't be going thinking that I'm going to change into an adrenaline junkie. It was right at the limit of my fear factor. I loved going over the bumps and getting air time! Kate and I whooped and screamed with joy and I think Simon (in front of us) was mightily relieved.

When we got off Simon presented me with a BTMR pin that he'd secretly bought me earlier. Don't know what he'd have done with it if I'd refused to go on the ride!

We met back up with Sarah who had failed to find Alice , but I suspect she might have gone back on Buzz Lightyear once or twice!

We went for another sit down on the TTA:

2008_0818Image0141.jpg

We all went into Monster's Inc Laugh Floor - great fun! I was scared of being chosen but I think Sarah would have loved it. She was planning on wearing a hat if we ever went back!

Next up was Stitch's Great Escape - another great favourite of ours! We loved this just as much.

By now we were exhausted and our feet were aching. Night had fallen and Mk was probably at it's busiest.

We split up again - the theory was that Si and Kate would go on the mountains again whilst Wishes was on and Sarah and I would watch the Fireworks and that we'd meet up back at CBR.

Well, it was soooo busy and sarah and I couldn't find a decent spot to watch the fireworks so we decided to cut our losses and head for the bus home. We also just couldn't face fighting through the crowds at the end of the night. So we did a runner.

We got back just before Si and kate - we were all exhausted. We had had an amazing day but yesterdays travelling had finally caught up with us big time. I couldn't believe how much we had done! We all crashed out!

Coming up: Getting soaked in the jungle! And how many shows can you see in one day?!

Here are some photos I had to remove from my post as I put too many in - that'll teach me!

There you go!

Pie for breakfast... who hasn't done that in WDW. I just tell my niece and nephews to leave that out when they tell their mom about the trip!;)

Hi again Shari and family!

Pie has carbs for immediate energy and I am sure there are some eggs in there, so that's protein. Works for me!

Looking forward to more.

It was naughty but nice! Most mornings we didn't have time for a proper breakfast before we hit the parks so we had pie or fruit or Kate even took to having some of those Chip and Dale cheddar crackers - with a drink so we had some fuel before heading out. I have to say we did try to eat healthily the rest of the time - but hey! We were on holiday!

Michelle - believe it or not, we actually did quite a lot in between all the food! As you will see! I'll try to post an update later tonight! Thanks for reading!:)

Ok... I know why YOU'RE awake at this hour... why am I?????????? :lmao:

Hi all!

Well, after another great night's sleep in our comfy beds we managed to be organised once more and get out at a decent time. (After some more pies/cake for breakfast!).

We were at the bus stop by 8:10 am but we had to wait for about 20 minutes for our bus to come. As it turned out, this was great timing because AK had just opened when we got there.

Here we are:

image021.jpg

We wended our way into the park. As we walked through the Oasis we took pity on a lonely cast member holding a model of an animal skull. We paused to talk to her. Sarah was a geeky brainiac and recognised that the skull belonged to an anteater. Did you know that an anteater has it's jaws fused together and can therefore not open it's mouth? Neither did we (except Sarah). Also that they eat using their tongues? I love AK - it's so educational!

Well, then we wandered on our merry way. We decided to hit the Kilamanjaro Safari first:

2008_0818Image0147.jpg

That was great as ever! We saw plenty of animals but my wobbly camera work was always just a few seconds too late to get a decent picture! We saw hippos, elephants, lions, crocodiles and loads of exotic birds and animals.

The weather was warm, but not as blisteringly hot as we had found it in 2006. We were slightly puzzled that we weren't getting the usual sauna treatment. However we have to say that we could cope with it!

After the safari we hopped onto Kali River Rapids - mine and Sarah's fave AK ride. We were tough and did it without ponchos. I think it really matters who you have in your boat on this ride - and we had a great family with us - loads of fun. We had lots of discussions who we thought would get soaked. Well, in the end, just about everyone did! Sarah and I got soaked right at the beginning going through a geyser. The others got soaked going down the hill. We were soaked to the skin:

2008_0818Image0167.jpg

2008_0818Image0168.jpg

We spilt up so that Simon and Kate could go on Expedition Everest. I tried to give my clothes a quick dry under the hand dryers in the restrooms!

Sarah and I bumped into these guys:

2008_0818Image0172.jpg

They were such fun and gave Sarah lots of cuddles! We also saw this lady:

2008_0818Image0169.jpg

How cool is Devine? We popped over to the tree of life to see It's Tough to be a bug:

2008_0818Image0175.jpg

Yup - another silly face from my daughter! When we came out it was raining so we hid in the Harambe shop for a while - I love that shop! Then we met up with Si and Kate who were disappointed that EE had been closed due to technical difficulties. They had fast passes for after lunch though.

We had lunch at the newly table service Tusker House - we really enjoyed it. The food was good, the service excellent and it was nice to have a civilised sit down - kept us out of the rain too!

Si and Kate told us they'd been to the Boneyard in dinoland:

DSCF0780.jpg

I think Simon had had more fun here than Kate! They'd also had various other photo opportunities during the morning:

DSCF0798.jpg

DSCF0776.jpg

We all really enjoyed our lunch - I'd really recommend Tusker House for a good meal in the animal kingdom.

Si and Kate went off once more to go on EE whilst Sarah and I wandered around the pangani forest trail for a while. I love these dudes:

2008_0818Image0198.jpg

In 2006 we took this picture of Sarah:

0831.jpg

So, of course, we had to take a picture in the same spot this year:

2008_0818Image0202.jpg

My how she's changed! Although she's taller she actually found it more difficult to hop up onto the rock!

We then went to see Pocahontas and her Forest friends, which I believe has now closed down. I love Pocahontas and I really enjoyed seeing her sing all my favourite songs and interact with the real animals. Here's Sarah at the Pocahontas theatre:

2008_0818Image0206.jpg

We went over to Dinoland to meet the others. We were a bit early so we went on Triceratop spin which was almost empty! Sarah controlled the height and I did the tipping backwards/forwards bit! Great fun for us big kids!

Then we met the others. Sarah didn't want to go on Dinosaur so we installed her in Restaurantasaurus with a sprite and some fries. Then we hit the ride!!

I love Dinosaur - I scream the whole way round and get bumped and buffeted about but it's tremendous fun! Definitely in my top five rides! The photo was funny - me and Simon screaming and Kate with her fingers in her ears!

We picked Sarah up and did a bit of shopping. Oh look - a silly hat! Sarah with her beloved Buzz:

2008_0818Image0215.jpg

Then we went to see Finding nemo the Musical. We were quite excited to have this new experience. The theatre was Huge and the set was amazing. We really enjoyed this - the puppets were amazing and the singing was great. The only negative was that we all found 'Dory' very annoying. She certainly wasn't no Ellen!

After that - we went to see our 3rd show of the day - Festival of the Lion King. We all LOVED this! It was such fun with the audience participation and the music is great of course! I especially loved the acrobats. Si loved the huge pumbaa and kate was captivated by the animatronic Simba. I must admit - it was so clever. Sarah said the show had 'Great energy' and boy was she right!

Our energy levels, however, were zapped so we got on the bus home. We chatted to a really nice american family on the bus - their little Snow White had fallen fast asleep!

We decided to eat at the food court at Old Port Royale that evening. There was plenty of choice for all of us - and once more we had to save our desserts.

Outside, in Banana Cabana a guitar chap was playing James Taylor and Sting. We walked back to our room - it really is a beautiful resort, especially on an evening.

We decided to take kate swimming in the Barbados pool (The main pool was closed for the duration of our stay.) She really enjoyed herself, especially going down the slide.

To end, here's another gratuitous CBR shot:

coming up: Back to the future at EPCOT and dining Under the sea.

Looks like you had great fun!!! Love the hats!!! :goodvibes

Oh, there are many more hats to come! Thanks for reading Michelle - hope you're getting some sleep!

Just started reading and your TR sounds wonderful already. Looking forward to more. popcorn::

Thanks KittyKat! There's lots more! I just need to get organised with my photos!

Oh an update yay!

Hey burly! Thanks for following our adventures!

So, today we were going here:

2008_0818Image0225.jpg

image067.jpg

Instead of manically dashing round Future World AND World Showcase, we decided to do each of them on a separate day. We kind of stuck to it, as you will see.

Once more the bus arrived at the Barbados bus stop quite promptly and we were at EPCOT just before it opened. We didn't have too long to wait before we were let in. Si headed off to grab fastpasses for Soarin' (none of us had done it before). Apparently it was a right scrum when he got there!

Me and the girls decided to pop into the character spot at the Innoventions pavilion (can't remember if it was east or west - not very good with compass points!) The queue was almost non existant and we got the opportunity to get some great character photos. Si even managed to get back to appear on some! Our photopass card certainly got a good workout!:

2008_0818Image0229.jpg

We met Minnie, Mickey, Chip and Dale, Pluto and Goofy! It was great to meet them all at once!

Next we headed here:

2008_0818Image0242.jpg

It was to be Sarah's first time on Test Track. This was her Nemesisississ. I knew if we could get her on it she would love it! She's a big fan of Top Gear (tv programme about cars) so we sold the ride to her on that.

If I had to pick an all time favourite Disney ride - Test Track is it for me. Thrills without any big drops! Perfection!

Here is Sarah waiting for our car:

DSCF0812.jpg

She doesn't look too nervous does she? Well, as we suspected, she loved this ride! She was in the front next to me and this is her photo:

image055.jpg

Aww...look at her grabbing hold of her mummy! As soon as the doors opened and we flew out onto the track I could hear her whooping and cheering as the car went faster and faster. Fantastic!

Next we went on Mission Space (Green version):

image064.jpg

For those of you who don't know, the green version is the less intense version of the ride. The orange version is more intense and has the real feelings of blasting into space, spinning, weightlessness etc. It's not supposed to be very good for the tummy so we gave it a miss. I know Si wanted to try the intense version at a later time.

I loved Mission Space - it was great fun! A fab simulator ride with great theming! I loved pressing all the buttons as the right time!

Then we went over to use our Soarin' fastpasses. I was a bit nervous about this ride as I knew it involved being hoisted quite far into the air. Sarah and I loved this ride! We were right on the front row and therefore quite high up but it didn't feel scary at all. It gave us the chance to pretend to be flying without any of the fear of being that high in the sky! I was relieved none of our shoes fell off!

We followed this by brunch at Sunshine Seasons. This was a great food court with lots of choice. Plenty of seating too.

After brunch we had a relaxing ride on Living with the Land. This was pleasant enough but not over exciting.

We then went back on Mission Space where Simon did the more intense version (and survived) and another trip on test track:

image058.jpg

Notice Sarah looking a bit more confident this time!

We also did The Seas with Nemo and Friends which was good - especially the effects and Turtle Talk with Crush - we love this show, so funny!

The girls and I went to see Honey I shrunk the audience. I quite like this 3D show, even though it is showing it's age a bit, but I nearly lost the will to live during that interminable preshow. We just wanted a sit down!

Si took this picture of me and Sarah outside:

DSCF0818.jpg

Can you see the fountain of water leaping over our heads? He's very pleased with this shot!

We also popped into club cool. Guess what Kate's trying?:

2008_0818Image0266.jpg

Yup. Beverley!

Simon got into the strange hat pose mood:

2008_0818Image0268.jpg

Although we weren't strictly speaking 'doing' world showcase today we popped into 'England':

DSCF0826.jpg

What are we waiting for?:

DSCF0824.jpg

These guys!:

2008_0818Image0275.jpg

The British Invasion! They're a great Beatles tribute band and jolly nice fellows when we went to get a photo with them. Not sure they're really from Liverpool though.....or even England!

2008_0818Image0272.jpg

2008_0818Image0273.jpg

Yes, yes, more strange hats!

We wandered back through Canada:

DSCF0828.jpg

Now I'm not short but i could barely reach that top hole! They need to put a box there! Simon thought it was so funny!

We went back to Future World for our ADR at Coral Reef. Here is me and Sarah:

DSCF0830.jpg

We had a nice meal here, but not outstanding. They mixed up Simon's food order and generally seemed very busy. But it was okay and the tank was awesome.

We had a final go on Test track:

image073.jpg

Look what that naughty Kate is doing to her Mummy! Bunny ears! Very naughty!

On the way out we tried the new improved Spaceship Earth. This was great - especially the end bit where you appear on screen in the future! Hilarious!

It was dark as we left the park:

image075.jpg

When we got back, our cuddly toys were doing this:

2008_0818Image0294.jpg

(The yeti and the Pirates dog was just the beginning of our cuddly toy collection as you will see!)

Well, we were very tired when we finally got back to the hotel. A bit of Hannah Montana, Life with Derek and we crashed out!

Coming up: Snuggling up in the drive in. And a date with Woody and Buzz!

But did you BUY any of the hats???

I know... patience... :rotfl:

Well, I am glad to see your hubby getting into hats finally, lol.

It looks like you are having a wonderful time. I love the gorilla pic and the fountain over your head one. Awesome timing on that one.

But did you BUY any of the hats???

I know... patience... :rotfl:

Shouldn't you be in bed Michelle?? Buy the hats? Were we supposed to? Don't worry - we contributed to the Disney economy lots! (Just not with hats!!:lmao: ) Thanks for following my report!:)

Oh, my hubby is the biggest poser of the lot! I think the children are just following his lead!

I'm glad you can see what a magical time we had. It was truly amazing. We've been back nearly 5 weeks and I've still got the blues.

I love those gorillas! They just look at you as if they can't understand what you're doing!

Simon is sooooo proud of that fountain picture. Mind you, we did have to pose for a while!

Thanks for reading!

Shari xxx

I'm supposed to be asleep like other normal people... :lmao: but it's part insomnia and part the fact that I work with guys who are overseas and I have to be awake to be at their beck and call... :rotfl:

I love the yeti furball! I almost got one of these last time, they are so cute!! I'm glad one has gone to a good home!

I love your picture in Canada too, so funny! It's great posing for some wacky photos in WDW!

sounds like you made great use of your day. Did you only ride Soarin' once? I love that ride. :worship: My sister has motion sickness but can handle Soarin' and Test track! Love Epcot.
Now on to more of this :surfweb: and this :laundy:
I'll be looking for the next bit....
