Indiana Jones and the search for armadillos, trifle, Alice and dreams.

I'm supposed to be asleep like other normal people... :lmao: but it's part insomnia and part the fact that I work with guys who are overseas and I have to be awake to be at their beck and call... :rotfl:

Sounds like hard work! No wonder you turn to DiS for entertainment!:)

I love the yeti furball! I almost got one of these last time, they are so cute!! I'm glad one has gone to a good home!

I love your picture in Canada too, so funny! It's great posing for some wacky photos in WDW!

Hey Meryll! Kate bought herself the Yeti after going on EE. It is sooo cute and cuddly.

The Canada photo is funny - well Simon always has a good chuckle. Honestly folks, I'm not that small but I was standing on tiptoe and could barely reach!

I took a photo of Simon in the same spot and he was stretching too!

I hope to post Hollywood Studios later today! The day us girls crumbled and had to.........take a break in the middle of the day! Gulp!

sounds like you made great use of your day. Did you only ride Soarin' once? I love that ride. :worship: My sister has motion sickness but can handle Soarin' and Test track! Love Epcot.
Now on to more of this :surfweb: and this :laundy:
I'll be looking for the next bit....

It was really busy so we rode it once that day and also on our world showcase day. It was great. Sarah jumped at the fireworks at the end! It was great for us to 'fly over' Disneyland too!

Thanks for reading burly and everyone!

Greetings all!

Today we went to:

image105.jpg

Yup, that's right. The newly monikkered Disney's Hollywood Studios!

Whilst we waited for a bus at CBR we demonstrated which building we were in:

DSCF0834.jpg

Once again we were in plenty of time for rope drop. We queued up waiting for the crowd to yell 'Lights, Camera, Action!'

2008_0818Image0301.jpg

And off we went! The crowd surged up towards the back of the park. Thousands of people - one mind. To get to Toy Story Midway Mania. Cast Members shepherded the crowd in one direction - it was all very well organised. By the time we got to Toy Story the fastpass machines were going crazy - each machine had a really long queue.

We bypassed this and headed to the ride itself:

2008_0818Image0304.jpg

The standby wait time said 30 mins, but in truth we only queued for about 20 minutes. The queue was fast moving and the theming was such fun we didn't really mind:

2008_0818Image0311.jpg

The ride was such fun - kind of like Buzz Lightyear with 3D glasses and a pop gun. I scred 64,000 but of course Simon was the winner with over 100,000! We all really enjoyed it but we agreed that we wouldn't queue 2 hours to go on it!

Then Si and Kate went off to do scary things. Sarah and I went on the Great Movie Ride. She never got onto it in 2006 so she was looking forward to it. I think she really enjoyed it - I did too! Last time I'd had the gangster hitchiker but this time it was the Western version - a woman too! I love this ride anyway - it's all about films!

We had half an hour to spare before meeting the others so we decided to go and see The Little Mermaid. Now, this was risky for us - we'd seen it in 2006 when our Ariel seemed decidedly......bored.

This show was much better - and lots more fun! Ariel had a great singing voice and we really enjoyed it!

After that it was time to meet Kate and Simon under the sorcerers hat. While we were waiting Donald Duck appeared! We jumped straight in the queue to meet him:

2008_0818Image0313.jpg

What a gentleman! Soon the others appeared. Kate had met her own Prince Charming:

image080-1.jpg

And Simon had met up with Wall-E:

DSCF0844.jpg

Then it was time for Star Tours! Another Fave ride of ours - you might say Simon quite likes it!! With only a five minute ride we were very happy! We've done Star Tours so many times and we all still love it soooo much!

Of course, after the ride - comes the shop:

2008_0818Image0314.jpg

While Simon felt his wallet twitching, the girls managed to find some silly headgear! I bought a little baby Ewok to go with the big Ewok I bought last time! The big Ewok is called Chubb-Chubb. The little Ewok is called Baby Chubb-Chubb! Imaginative eh? Simon bought himself a beautiful limited edition Star Wars watch.

We headed towards Muppetvision 3D but our ears caught the sound of a rock group.

They were called Mulch, Sweat and Shears and were obviously supposed to be gardeners! They were well rocking! Of course, Sarah thought they were great and was bopping along. Once again, this caught the attention of the singer who came over to see the girls:

2008_0818Image0321.jpg

Not only this, they were invited to play some 'air guitar' with the band. The singers gave them blow up guitars and they all rocked out to Aerosmith. Sarah was in seventh heaven:

2008_0818Image0327.jpg

Afterwards, they were allowed to keep their guitars! How great is that? The singer said to them - 'You're so polite - you're not from America - right?'

Both the girls were thrilled with their daily dose of magic!

We finally got to see the Muppets - this was as good as I remembered! Sarah bought herself a Beaker T-shirt in the shop afterwards.

Do you know - there is a distinct lack of Peter Pan merchandise in Walt Disney World? We do. How, you ask? Because we searched every blinking shop in WDW for something PP for Sarah's friend. There was slim pickings. Tinkerbell you find in abundance but not the boy who wouldn't grow up. We actually found this in The Muppets Shop:

2008_0818Image0330.jpg

This was almost the sum total of PP merchandise in WDW. Sarah was almost so incensed that she wanted to write an angry letter. Almost.

I met a friendly snowman:

DSCF0862.jpg

Soon it was time for our ADR at the Sci-fi Dine in Theater. This was great! We all had a lot of fun watching the clips and the food was delicious. It was a quiet haven from the bustling park:

2008_0818Image0333.jpg

We ate very well. Too well.

After lunch we stumbled across a Toy Story character spot. Well, with Sarah's obsession with Buzz we couldn't pass this up. There were lots of scenes to pose in on the way to meet the characters. A chance to look silly - Kate and Sarah were there!:

DSCF0866.jpg

We finally met the big guys. Oh look! Revenge on Kate for her bunny ears on Test Track!

2008_0818Image0347.jpg

After this, us girls decided that we couldn't hack the pace so we went back to CBR for a break. Simon was more manly and decided to stay in the park and shop!

Back at CBR housekeeping was in our room so we lazed on a hammock for a bit - comfy bliss! Kate and I went for a swim later then we jumped on a bus and headed back to DHS.

We were there early so we had a wander through a few shops and then met Simon under the hat. He was weighed down by shopping bags so I guess he'd had a good afternoon!

Off we headed to Fantasmic - my first experience of this! We had about a 40 minutes wait and the theatre go sooo busy. But it was worth it! It was so exciting with all the characters and fireworks and projections!

It was very busy getting out of the studios but we didn't have to wait too long for a bus. Back at CBR Simon and I went to OPR for takeaway pizza.

I had to wait for Simon to move all his many purchases before I could get into bed!

Here's a DHS shot to leave you with. Don't have nightmares:

image096.jpg

Coming up: A lazy day and the Return to the California Grill - Oh yes!

Oh what a beautiful family! I am a TR addict and I am enjoying yours! We went in Sept and my IL stayed at CBR and said it was terrific. They didn't take any pics though, so I'm enjoying seeing your pictures of the grounds there!

Thank you Karen! I'm hoping to post some more pics of the beautiful CBR very shortly! Thanks for reading!

Hi burly! Thanks for being such a loyal reader!:thumbsup2 Toy story was crazy! A good fun ride but not worth all the madness! We were glad we did it though!

We don't tend to queue for rides that have standby waits of over 20 minutes - there's so many other things to do!

'There is more to see than can ever be seen, more to do than can ever be done........' no, wait! That's the Lion King!:lmao:

I'll try to get some more stuff up and running later!

Cheers!

This one's for you burly!:thumbsup2

This is a photo of the previous day - me and Kate relaxing on a hammock at CBR:

2008_0818Image0356.jpg

Yup! That's my skanky feet!

Anyway - Sunday 17th August: we had a lie in until about 8:30 today! I left the others in bed and I went for a wander around the lake. It was a beautiful morning, starting to get quite hot and there were many people out and about CBR. In fact, it was the busiest I'd ever seen it! Here are some pics:

2008_0818Image0362.jpg

2008_0818Image0366.jpg

The others were up and about by the time I got back and we soon got ready to go to Downtown Disney. DTD was much quieter than when we'd gone on that first evening and it was nice having a wander.

DSCF0892.jpg

We looked in a couple of shops. Sarah was in hat heaven:

2008_0818Image0368.jpg

2008_0818Image0369.jpg

She especially likes Nightmare Before Christmas so she loved these hats - it was the nearest she came to actually buying one!

Here she is with her favourite guy:

2008_0818Image0373.jpg

We had lunch at the Earl of Sandwich - we really enjoyed this - lovely sandwiches! And then we did some more shopping. Lots of Disney shopping! I was very happy because I found a small cuddly Stitch with his ears down - I'd been looking for one all over! I bought some pins too and one of the reusable Disney tote bags. This unfortunately meant that I was carrying everyone shopping!

2008_0818Image0375.jpg

2008_0818Image0377.jpg

We had fun whilst Simon was in the Lego shop!!

AFter shopping we went to have some fun in Disney quest. We hadn't got there in 2006 and Kate especially was keen to have a go. It was really good fun and we played lots of cool games.

We particularly enjoyed Buzz Lightyears Astroblasters - Sarah was firing balls while I drove during this game where we had to shoot people in the other cars. We were quite bad and I'm not sure we actually shot anyone!

We also played a simulator game when we had to shoot aliens on a planet whilst rescuing scientists. Simon 'piloted' the spaceship and I shot the most aliens!

We also played a human pinball game where you had to stand on these podiums and rock from side to side to get points. Very dignified! Kate came second out of the whole group and I didn't come last! Yay!

We also found some computers where you could check your emails so we did this. Most of mine were junk though!

We then decided to split up so Simon and Kate could design their own rollercoaster - something Kate was really looking forward to! Sarah and I headed over to the Virgin Megastore. Before we left DQ we had great fun on a raft simulator ride which was fun. We had to paddle like mad and we kept getting sprayed with water!

At Virgin I bought a couple of CDs and we met up with Simon and Kate before heading back to CBR.

Back at the resort we got ready for our meal at .......The California Grill!!!!!

This had been Si and mine's Date meal back in 2006 and now we were looking forward to taking the girls there. If you've read my dining report you'll know what a fantastic evening we had there - even getting the same waiter (Kevin!:lovestruc ) as in 2006! It was a wonderful evening and we were in the more private Wine Room. Of course, we ended the evening watching Wishes from the viewing platform.

A totally amazing experience, I can't recommend California Grill highly enough! Here are the pics from that fantastic evening:

After this amazing meal we wandered over the the Magic Kingdom and caught a bus home.

The bus was really crowded and Kate had to sit on my knee! I felt quite emotional. We had just shared a really special experience with our girls and here we were on the bus, Kate on my knee despite being 12 years old, surrounded by other families with children who were much smaller.

I felt tears prick my eyes. My girls were growing up so quickly and yet here we were in the most magical place in the world together. My little girl was on my knee and I hugged her tight. She was almost asleep and it just reminded me of when they were babies.

Life has a habit of taking you over, things change, we grow older and our children grow up. But at Disney World, just for a while, time stands still and we can stop worrying about tomorrow.

Now that's magic.

Today we went for a character breakfast at Ohana, at the Polynesian Resort:

2008_0818Image0413.jpg

I loved the Polynesian! It's really beautiful and the theming is really great. It was mighty busy though. The people at the desk at Ohana seemed slightly hassled and they were grateful we didn't make a fuss when we had to wait a while. Although - we didn't really! We were STILL seated before our ADR time!

Ohana restaurant was lovely with views out to Magic Kingdom. The servers seemed slightly older and were very friendly.

I really enjoyed the meal here - the family style platter and fruit and bread - yum! Also, really good coffee!

Of course - we met some great characters and I didn't find them as obstrusive as some character meals:

Hey Lilo! Leave my man alone!:scared1:

We had such fun at this meal and Kate even joined in with the parade! (Okay, we kind of made her do it - she was the youngest!)

After breakfast we had some time to spare before getting our towncar to Florida Mall. So we had a wander around the lovely grounds of the Polynesian:

2008_0818Image0436.jpg

2008_0818Image0442.jpg

It's so beautiful. I've decided that it's my favourite deluxe resort and that if we ever had the money to go grand that I would like to stay there!

Soon the towncar had arrived to take us shopping! We had a really nice driver who assured us that he had cleared the boot out for all 'my' shopping! He obviously doesn't know my husband - he is the shopper in our family! Not particularly clothes (although he did bring home an impressive collection of new t-shirts!) but for toys - especially Star Wars or Lego!

We had saved for so long to come on this holiday and have a decent amount of spending money. I always find it hard after all this saving to actually begin to spend!

We had a good day at the Mall - even I managed to spend something! I bought some shoes, some snacks and a Star Wars Tshirt for Si. Sarah also had a good shop. She bought shoes, t shirts, jeans, bags. Si and Kate also made many purchases. Sarah also managed to find some Peter Pan merchandise:

2008_0818Image0454.jpg

This is a photo of our bags:

2008_0818Image0458.jpg

We were very tired and shopped out. The towncar came to pick us up. Back at the room Kate and Sarah tried on some of their new gear:

2008_0818Image0462.jpg

That evening we went out for a meal at the House of Blues. We had a really nice meal - even if Simon was distracted by the USA olympic beach volleyball team on TV! Naughty Simon!

We went back to the Virgin Megastore after dinner and I bought a nice book of John Lennon photographs.

We went back to CBR and crashed out! Again!!

Coming up: Fay turns nasty.

And...is Seaworld a washout? Will Shari get to Dine with Shamu?

Sounds great Shari!!!

I always wonder how I'm going to get things home when I travel... ;)

Hi Shari :wave2: Just caught up...TWO bits to read. Lovely the both of them.
I absolutely adore the Cali Grill and will save for a dinner there everytime i go to WDW. :thumbsup2
We also always try and get a meal at O'hana or Kona on every trip. Love both.
And The Polynesian is my "home". I have stayed there 3 times and i just love it! :woohoo:
Great update..i will keep tuning in for more.....popcorn::

Love the poses! I am really debating on where to shop this summer. I am a clearance rack junkie, so maybe one of the outlets.

Can't wait to read more.

Hi Michelle! We travelled quite lightly going out. We took four cases and Si and I packed our stuff in two small cases which we then put inside two of the big cases. So we had two spare cases for the way back. Went out with four, came back with six (One of them filled with :laundy: ) We also try to buy lots of small things rather than bulky things. Kate wanted to buy a big string puppet from China which we tried to discourage but in the end it came vacuum packed so that was ok. I really wanted a HUGE Stitch but he would have had to have his own seat!!

Hey burly! Yes we  California Grill so much. The first time Si and I went there I couldn't believe how amazing it was and how brilliant the staff were. O'hana for dinner is definitely on our list for next time - and we'd probably do breakfast there again.

Lucky you staying at the Polynesian! We loved the feel of the place - and what a great position it's in! Thanks for reading old pal!

I don't know how my kids turned out to be such posers! (They must take after Simon......:lmao: )

We almost went to the Premium Outlets but didn't as we were going to Florida mall. We've talked about it and we would probably go to the outlets next time and give the mall a miss.

Thanks to all for reading - will try to get organised soon!

Shari xxx

Wow! Thanks Michelle!!:thumbsup2

I'm still happily making the curried coconut soup recipe from Boma - I've tinkered with it slightly but I'm VERY happy with it!!!

I know I've been a bit slow with the next instalments! I'll try to get something sorted over this weekend! You know how life gets in the way!

Thanks for reading!!!
