As I said earlier:

People call it a drop because the track is travelling downwards. It's not a drop in my opinion. It's way smaller than Pirates. You don't get that "stomach" feeling.

That's what I needed to hear! I think I will brave it this next time!

I actually prefer Dinosaur to Indy only because Dinosaur is much rougher and more exciting. They've really tamed Indy down way too much. I mean, the last time I rode it was early '08, but when I was on it then, I was like "Wow! This sucks. Way too mild." whereas with Dinosaur (was at WDW in '09) I walked off with a huge grin on my face beause it was so much rougher.

I dig it rough.


Perhaps someone could comment on this whose just been there?

Dinosaur is much rougher. I rode both in the last year and it does seems like they have tamed down Indy compared to Dinosaur. Indy wins for overall theming and scenery in the ride. Nothing can beat it. Dinosaur is rougher and scarier because it's dark much of the time. I love dark rides. I screamed bloody murder the first time I went on Dinosaur. The ride pic was hilarious.

My jeep actually broke down when I was on Dinosaur... it scared the hell out of me. It was pitch black and we had just come from the "stuck in the mud" part of the ride with the Carnotaurus and everything just sort of stopped. Our vehicle just sort of sat there rumbling for maybe 30 seconds, but man, I was wide eyed looking every which way, waiting to be eaten. lol.


I love the themeing of Dinosaur; the darkness of prehistoric times, but yeah, I think Indy is fantastically themed. I just wish it was more rough like Dinosaur. The last time I rode it, I actually thought something was wrong with it because it was so tame; I thought our jeep was broken.

Also go on Indy more than once, in order to hopefully enter a different door (Eternal Youth, Earthly Riches, or the Future).

Is there really a difference in what door you enter? I never knew there was a difference at all.

I don't handle too much! LOL How would you compare it to the first drop in POTC? That's about all the drop I seem to handle. Stupid stomach of mine. *sigh*

I'd call it more of a quick lurch forward. You do travel down hill at the same time but you don't "lose your stomach".

I'm sooo glad that didn't happen to us! We took my DD (then 5) on Dinosaur last year and it scared her a bunch. She was scared of the big dinosaur jumping out at her. So, I'm trying to decide, should I chance taking her on Indy when we go in May? She'll be just barely tall enough...

Space DL 40" MK 44"


Rides in question, Indy DL 46" but Dinosaur AK 40". So there must be lot more passenger concern on Indy.

I highly doubt that that is correct. Why would Soarin, which is exactly the same ride, have the same height restriction?

I know they use the same vehicle platform, but PPs are right that they can then program each ride to twist, turn, drop, etc. however they want. I love IJ and the incredible theming. It's like a super-wild Jeep ride from an IJ movie. We got stuck right before the boulder-roll one time a couple years ago almost right under the hanging IJ animatronic. 20 minutes later, lights on, everything revealed -- and still Indy didn't "break character"

I rode Dinosaur at WDW a couple years back too. To me that ride was scarier, maybe because I've been on IJ many times. Darker, big carnotaur lunging at you. Honestly it was the only thing at WDW that "scared" me ... not that it stopped me from running right back around and riding again!

Last year at DLR, we were about ready to board the jeeps when the lights came on at Indiana Jones. For the rest of the day, my DS 19 was OBSESSED with going on the ride so most of the visit was spent running back and forth to the ride. It FINALLY opened at 9:30pm, we were lucky to get one ride in. My boys prefer this ride over Dinosaur - more motion, better theme.

Absolutely! Indy isn't as scary as Dinosaur. It's still quite the adventure, but theres nothing after you on Indy, so prehaps she'll be ok with it. It's also not nearly as loud or dark. (There are a couple of pitch black parts, but you're through them really quickly)

My family loves Dinosaur and was very excited to ride Indy for the first time last October. Though the ride system is the same, the ride is totally different. Dinosaur is scary, I did not find Indy scary at all. Indy is longer and the sets are amazing. I just wish I could see it as I'm zooming by.

It's like riding Pirates at 40mph. You just can't take in all the detail.

I loved my kids reaction the first time we rode it. As we were getting off my son turned to me and asked "what just happened?"

I would say one drop is considerable, but not bad.

Went on POC with family last year, including my SIL who was freaking out about the drop since she is a big chicken. I think she was more scared of the anticipation of the drop - had a good grip on her brother (my DH).

Remember, there are no restraints on the ride so the drop isn't a biggie.

Thank you. I was just getting ready to ask about the dark and the noise. I have a 7 yo DS. It will be his first time at DLR, and we have to be very careful at WDW with rides. He has never been on Dinosaur because I have read so many things about children's reactions on it. It has been so long since I have ridden it, I truly don't remember. Anything that is dark or very loud can quickly become a problem. I will NOT tell him about the snake, but I will sit him in the middle. For that matter, I will not tell DH about the snake either. Maybe DS will be laughing so hard at DH, he won't be scared

So why doesn't Disney give Indy the refurb it deserves and update/fix everything that needs it? If they did that, then hyped the hell out of it, it'd [once again] have a line stretching out of Adventureland and all the way down Main Street, full of eager people.

One of the things they could really work on is the "rat room." That place is just an empty space. If they added an actual set-piece there, that would be great!

But there's just so much stuff on it that could be upgraded/added/fixed/overhauled; I really wouldn't mind if Disney shut it down for 6-12 months to achieve a major updating. After all, it is one of their top premiere attractions.
