We are heading to DL this summer on a driving trip, and one stop will be in Indiana. So I was hoping someone could tell me if Logansport or Kokomo would be a better stopover for the night. I don't know the area at all. Thanks so much. :)

What highway are you travelling on? Those aren't on a major interstate to my knowledge. I think they are on US 31 which has a lot of traffice lights. Main intrestates are I-65 and I-69 running north and south or I-70 and I-74 running east and west. Give us some names of towns on those major interstates and we might be able to help a little better.

You're going to DL and planning to stop in Kokomo or Logansport:confused3 Where are you coming from on your way to California if I may ask? As the above poster said, neither of these cities are on an interstate, and California is a long drive from Indiana

Coming from MA and thought we'd take some back roads along the way. We'll be on mainly on Rte. 80 but after Cleveland we thought we'd drop down to Routes 30 and 24. Hoping for some pretty scenery and not so much traffic. But, please let me know if this is a dumb idea since you probably know the roads!! Thanks.

I won't call it dumb...to each his own...but unless you like seeing corn fields, there won't be much to see. Everything around there will be exactly what you see on the drive along 80 once you get past the mountains. If you can find specific attractions/things to do, that would be great. Otherwise, I'd stick to the direct route and save free time for more senic areas...no offense Indiana. I'm in Michigan, but a city that is basically a suburb of South Bend.

As a Hoosier, I am certainly not offended. You're absolutely right.

OP, unless you want the road trip to feel like it's in dog-years, stick to the interstate.:)

My first reaction to this is...neither. Sorry, but it's not exactly the most exciting place to stop!

I am from Fort Wayne,IN, but I travel a lot in the state and no matter if you take the main interstate or 24 (which I live right off of) or 30, you will see the exact same things - lot's of corn fields. You will save a lot of time and see the same things taking the interstate. If you still go that way, I have stayed in most of the hotels in Kokomo, because I would stay once and never go back to the same one. I have never found one that is not dirty and gross. I would say Logansport by default, even though I don't have a store there, so I am not sure of the hotel situation.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!! Route 80 looks like the best plan.

I live in Kokomo! US31 will take you to Indy where you can hit 65 and go down to Florida. Logansport really has nothing to it that I have experienced from the few trips I have made there. Kokomo does have stoplights...but if you hit them right you can make it. There are several hotels on 31. If you stop there is a park with a HUGE tree stump and a bull named Ben that is stuffed---someone stole his tail a few years ago. It is true there are lots of fields in Indiana but it is a good place....

If you decide this route PM me and I can tell you what hotels actually are good and places to eat....
