Independent Contractors

I'm looking to try to pick up a little extra money to put away for vacation first and home down payment second. I'm been looking into becoming an indepednet contractor for something like Avon or Home Interiors. Does anyone know of any othe businesses that use people like this and that don't require a huge time commitment.

my mom does demos in stores and there are sometimes reset jobs that use independent contractors. I know I see these jobs in the paper all the time. Just be careful because it can really screw you up at tax time. By the time you pay all of your own taxes it really takes a bite out.

There are also excellent tax advantages to being an independant contractor. I am one and as long as you have the intention of turning a profit you can write off many expenditures (including partial mortgage, partial phone bill, child care, office supplies, mileage...) Talk to a tax expert about this.
