IND or SDF to FLL

We live right there in Sellersburg, IN. We fly out of Louisville, KY and they have not had a non-stop to Florida for 20 years (at least that I have seen). Seriously. The last time I saw one was in 2005. We fly a connecting flight from SDF -> ATL -> MCO (or depending on the trip TPA).

ATL is my favorite airport for layovers. We've had many trips that have gone through there over the years. I would choose ATL over about any other eastern US connection point. BOS is not bad either, if going north.

Spirit is the only airline that has nonstop flights every day from IND. Every other non-stop option only runs a few days a week. I would use Google flights and search each leg as a one-way flight to piece together whatever works best.

EDIT: I misread and thought you were looking for Friday and Saturday flights. It is a bummer that there's not daily nonstops.

Are you interested in Southwest? They have nonstop flights from IND to FLL in August.

I’ve looked at SW and the nonstops they do have just do not correspond to the dream schedule.

Never have flown spirit, usually SW. I don’t understand 1 nonstop every few days and 10+ options that are not. Now flying to MCO is totally different.

We are 2 hours from Chicago and will not fly out of there, traffic is horrible. Will fly out of SDF if IND doesn’t work when looking at flights.

It was way cheaper than IND, we would not hesitate to use again.

We actually have flights out of Purdue that does the Chicago runs, it’s smaller planes so that would be a no. I live 5 minutes from that airport, if that’s what it is. They can’t seem to keep carriers there.

Keep in mind that Brightline doesn't actually go to the cruise port. You'll need to arrange transportation from the train station to the cruise port in Ft. Lauderdale. (And back again, if you go back the way you came.)

Yes I am aware of that. I need to look at their schedule to see how it would work for us if I decide that option.

I imagine there isn't a ton of demand from either of these airports flying to FLL in the middle of the week. People usually vacation from weekend to weekend. Miami is the big business airport with all the international connections, and MCO is far enough away.

Spirit is pretty good if you know what to expect. A carry-on suitcase, seat selection, and in-flight snacks and drinks are not included by default. There are different price tiers which include these, plus you can buy extra legroom or larger seats. I fly with them a few times a year.

I’ve decided to not go on the dream in august and just wait to book the destiny for late 2026 whenever it becomes available.
I’ve looked at the schedule for the destiny now and it seems that some of the sailings run Monday to Saturday, so I could probably find a nonstop to get into FLL on a Saturday or Sunday before the cruise or I’ll go on the treasure again since MCO/PC are so easy to do.
I have way too much grass to mow to be going on a summer trip. LOL

I guess they've just never had nonstop flights on the days we fly out. Of course, we typically fly out on a Friday but I didn't think that the day of the week mattered. I'm glad they still offer nonstop flights.

We've flown Spirit and the flights were fine. It was worth the savings to get a no frills flight. I wouldn't fly them on a red eye, although, I have heard good things about their seat upgrade option. These days a basic economy seat is no better than flying Spirit.
